I love the rare plant vidyahs and learning from yous guys out in the wild places but for sheer entertainment value the vidyahs around human settlements truly do lift my spirits. Thanks fellas for always helping me see the world clear. ❤
Looking forward to more grotto reviews. Also to the right of the 2nd house, there's a stunning classic yellow brick 2 story Chicago apartment. Beautiful.
Beautiful grotto…don’t see them much up here in DE. Love old houses! My mother used to make us stop to explore abandoned cemeteries…lots of plants in those. Will use as many native Delaware plants as I can and fill in with other North Eastern varieties.
Was planning to incorporate a blessed Mary statue for a long while. When I finally drove to buy one, i got pulled over and ticketed. 😅 my friend said when you choose a spot, bear in mind she will stay there at least 30 years. She's chillin by the birdbath now near the cement pelican i unearthed when first starting the garden.
I so wish you had a New England correspondent... the botany and landscaping sins and curiosities are many and varied... like if Roger Swain snapped and started going door to door I would be glued to the screen
Hi guys! I do gardening at my mom’s and she lives in West Lawn just south of Midway Airport. I want to plant compact trees around the height of 10’ to 15”. She has power lines going across the garden so the trees can’t be tall. The space is very sunny and hot with clay soil. I planted a small dogwood “Golden Shadows”. I was thinking of Rising Sun Redbud. What native small trees/shrubs can you recommend. I only want native or nativars that benefit wildlife. I would appreciate your help.
That second one, there's a house on my street like that - it's all cinderblock, the facade ones were poured in a mold to make them look like rusticated stone, but it's not actually rock or anything. What a great front yard, though. Operation destroy yer lawn a full success there.
Wow Ethnobotany. I want to make a funny comparison between lawns and certain online communities featuring such a word, but unfortunately YT filter would never let it fly. 😅
While you look at front yards, could you please review how to tell if that Phlox was Phlox paniculata versus a cultivar? Are their sexy parts different? Do you tell by petal color? When a cultivar is sterile, is there morphology that is different and indicates sterility? Thanks!
Where i live we got such shrines as well, called "Mariagrotten". They usually are made to look like caves(grotto meaning cave ofc), which is funny because most of my country doesn't have rocks, let alone caves. Some parts of it wouldn't even exist if the Dutch didn't make it themselves. So to see a cave is a bit of an anomaly. Always peaceful places to be and guaranteed to have a bench and maybe even water. Warm greetings from the Netherlands🇳🇱.
As a Stone Mason and a catholic, I'm chillax w my sexuality, but all that masonry work(virgin Mary tribute, block work on house) is all "dirty" and sloppy, js,,,,,
Was a Sparky for near 35 years, as an Apprentice it was my job to co-ordinate with the Brickies to install and run the conduit in the block. They weren't doing anything fancy but they were a good crew who on the whole looked out for a 1st termer like me and showed me a few things when it came to finishing on block. Knowledge I put to good use in my own trade at times and on my own house. It's a shame no one builds houses with the brick detail and sophisticated nuance as was done with Victorian and early Edwardian eras. Expensive as hell I realize but it goes to show what can be done with simple clay and mortar.
"Raaaahhrr, get in here and hava hot dahg" 🤣🤣 omw Al, omw.
More front lawn reviews please! I love ‘em
That's my tia's house!!😂
One of the most entertaining and informative channels on UA-cam.
Grotto rating. A genra of video I didn't know I needed.
Growing up one of my neighbors had the bathtub type, it was baaad. I'm not even catholic but when I see a nice grotto I gotta say something.
Shrine made from a sideways bathtub. My grandfather had one of those in his front yard. 👍🏼😎
Lmao I’ve never even heard of that before now
I see Al, I click, It's that easy.

The urban botany videos always give me hope...and ideas.
Seeing that fine lawn grotto made me a bit homesick. Outstanding front yards, with nice plants. Thanks for sharing those!
Fun fact, that little steel rail has to be at least 50+ years old for being the short. Love seeing old grandfathered rails.
You guys always make me smile.
Yay, you're back in Chicago!
this would make a Banger of a series 🙌 just saying...
That statue is behind glass too. Bet that puppy has eletric lights as well.

Their virgin grotto has a very different looking gundam than the one in my mom's downstairs front room
Stunning!! Now I have added a grotto with an annunciation scene to my house dream list.🕊🔥👌💯👋
This is awesome my family is from the NW side I miss those old buildings❤
Thanks for the official Shrine Review. Your dedication is phenomenal.
I give this video a solid A+ as well…
Al Scorch, Tony Santore. American treasures
This is just absolutely fantastic. I love it!
The recent breakdown in the seperation of Church and Botany is worrying.
I have yet to see a grotto shrine to the Flying Spaghetti Monster......🤔😉
It’s more a combo (caahhmbo) of church and Chicago. Something that will probably never separate
I feel so warm and protected, wow!
I got to step up my grotto game seeing this. My wooden grotto and fake flowers not going to cut it….😮

Insightful commentary gentlemen.👍

Brick dog houses are too cute! 🥰
Ornamental croton nice.
Nice Campsis radicans there too, for the hummers
home sweet home northside
I would love it if this was just both your homes and you were just praising yourselves on your masonry/gardening skills 😂

Very cool, excellent video. We have these in New Mexico and Arizona.
I have an eternal crush on Al Scorch 💜

now that’s a committed Mary Boat😮
Look at the summer haircut on this guy 👍👍
Just brought home a weird statue from a free pile to go in the yard, gotta make the boys proud
Now find us a Pastafarian homeowner with a shrine-grotto to the Flying Spaghetti Monster in their front yard!

Very nice, fellas!
How does anyone maintain those large tropical Crotons in Chicago?
That is dedicated horticultural display.
They probably come inside for the winter they're in pots
That last house looks like it's owned by a nice elderly person that would invite y'all inside for coffee/tea and cookies.
You were in my hood and didn’t bother to stop by for a puncki, for shame! I’m right at Chopin park.

Tony said "Belmont at Laramie," but I'm pretty sure that's Montrose Ave.

@@lisalikesplants I stand corrected! I'd delete but will leave for others who might confuse the two like me.
Quality grotto, in the south, they'd use tires.
Sculpted marble phallus where?

The 2 of you's asre too fun.

Looks like two different people were slinging mortar.
Some people think that mortar and brick is like playing with mud a blocks, but it a fine art.
