I have an 04 SC in Egyptian Sand and Chrome Wheels here in California with 60k on the clock. Its a terrific car. And its aging very well. I have found it is a lot cheaper to have it serviced by a reputable mechanic rather than a Lexus Dealer. Nonetheless, its a 3rd car for me - and it's a keeper! Nice review!
Have you had any issues or malfunction with the car? I was highly considering purchasing one, however I have a friend who's a mechanic and strongly advises me against it. He said that the quality and built is not great in the long run. He also mentioned that many ppl had problems arise from both hard & soft tops?
@@joannasun9212 First, I don’t know how much faith you should put into your friend’s advice. Any mechanic that claims a Lexus/Toyota build isn’t great is probably not much of a mechanic. Also, what people is he referring to that have had problems? Personally, I think you should choose whichever car you want to drive - no matter what. During the SC 430 build from 2002 through 2010, it had the highest resale of any car in North America per KBB (Kelly Blue Book) and other used car pricing guides, as well. It vastly out beat resale values of Mercedes, BMW, Jags, Range Rovers, and the like. The SC 430 was also called the “Crown Jewell of Lexus” by Lexus. Some call it a “Baby Bently” because of its interior. Today, a low-mileage well maintained SC 430 will still fetch between 25k to 35k here in California - easily. I’ve seen some that have a sticker price of over 50 thousand. Remember, these are twelve- to-twenty-year-old cars. Unbelievable, huh? I firmly believe that these will be very collectible in another dozen or so years. I’m an older guy who’s owned Jaguars, Mercedes, and Cadillacs. They are ALL expensive to maintain. That’s the nature of a premium luxury car. I’ve found over the years, that many luxury car owners neglect servicing their cars. And there lies the problem. I wouldn’t own another Mercedes. To much trouble and to expensive to maintain. I should mentioned that I do own 3 cars. Anyway, I have spent this year, $2200.00 to have the Timing belt and water pump changed (you have to do this every 100K) even though my car only has 40k on the mileage. I spent $2900.00 last year at Lexus when an oxygen sensor melded to the manifold (rare/odd), and I’ve had the bumpers resprayed for a cost of $1500.00 last year, too. Plus regular service costs. Nonetheless, my SC looks like a new car. I’ve never had a problem with the top, it works magnificently. I’ve never heard of anyone having a problem with their top, and they are only “hardtop” no soft tops. I restored a Miata a couple of years ago and the soft top was $1600.00 (the most fun car I’ve ever owned). The engine that is used in the SC is the same non-interference engine that’s put into the Toyota Tundra Truck - just re-torqued. A BRILLIANT engine that will give you years of driving. The car drives similar to a Mercedes SL. People either LOVE it or HATE it. If you can’t afford the maintenance of a used luxury car, find something within your budget that is newer. Remember, check the maintenance of any used car you want to buy - how well has the car been taken care of. I hope all this helps. Good luck!
Thank you for your comment. I'm about to buy one of these today, saw it yesterday. I'm so pumped and it's nice to hear an actual owner give his experience. Dumb question, I'm sure you have had no issues since the 2 years you wrote this? Everyone's telling me NOT to get this car. Mine just also needs the chrome or at least polished wheels. I will work on that.
You caught me at my computer early this morning. I love my Lexus SC. I just returned from a drive to the grocery store in the SC while no one was on the road at 6 a.m.. It was delightful! Anyway, I like a lot of different kinds of cars, and I don't want to come across as the SC has to be the only car in the world for me - because it's not. But it is a hell of a car. I love the older LSs like what you've mentioned, and exactly like those LSs, the SC was so well engineered because Lexus was initiating a car brand that would rival Mercedes. People either love or hate the SC. I live in Palm Springs, California, and several of these SC garage queens are out here. And they are beautiful. Snowbirds that own a couple of homes keep an SC in their garage when they return to the desert in October. Nonetheless, here's my best advice. Buy an SC from someone who is reputable and has records of the car's history. It might not be a bad idea to have a mechanic also look at it. You can tell with these cars whether they've been cared for or not. Yet, the reality is that they are 20-year-old cars. Good luck! @@dl733sak

I passed by one of these earlier today with the roof down. What was going through my head was, “what was Lexus thinking when they made those backseats???” Otherwise, I love it!
I own a 2010 SC430. Also own a 08 GS460. I'll give you some unexpected drawbacks. No park assist, no backup camera - both of which would really help when you're backing up or parallel parking. No push button start w/ key fob - like my 08 GS has, which didn't make sense. And what's the deal with the wire antenna w/ motor having to go up and down if you need to listen to the radio? That's so 90's. I'm pissed because when I first got it I didn't know about it and went through the car wash w/ the radio on - and ouch. That sucks. It's like Lexus chose not to make these updated upgrades to match other models - didn't want to put in the effort / $$. And I'm experiencing slight wind noise starting at 30mph. Other than that it's a nice ride, but not as nice as my GS460.

Glad you have yours. I've been wanting to get one myself ever since reviewing this
I love my Absolutely Red SC430! My niece called her “小果紅”(little red apple 🍎).
It is gorgeous !
Good introduction, your fan from Taiwan(台灣🇹🇼)
謝謝。 台灣有很多SC430嗎?我好像很少看到它們
@@KyleLiongCars It’s not common now that only the people who do really love it are collecting.
並不常見,現在只有愛車之人在用心收藏
Did the designer go to work for Merc?
Hey I have one it's a 2002 I bought last year. Can you please tell me what is the name of the rims? Please
Sorry IDK the name either :(
Great review. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Fun and informative! Thank you!
You’re welcome
Nice car!. Im 6 feet tall. Do you think i can fit in there?
I found one 2006 Pebble beach edition with 80K miles for 14K$
I think you’d be just about fine
@@KyleLiongCars Thank you!
I have one with low mi on it. It’s a pleasure to drive
How many miles?
Hahaha chill
It’s only 300HP for the V8 engine, it should have had more HP.
If you look up the hp numbers from other n/a v8 engines of the times, that’s right up there with the competition
my 2003 has 301hp
@@durdicamac9662 Congrats 🎉.
I passed by one of these earlier today with the roof down. What was going through my head was, “what was Lexus thinking when they made those backseats???” Otherwise, I love it!
The backseats are absolutely useless hahaha great car overall though
Thinking of removing my back seats for weight savings lol
No need hahaha it’s not like this is meant to be a rocket 😅😅
Haven’t driven a rocket. A Lexus SC430.... uhhh look at the video
@John John bro where did your reading comprehension go
Top gear is full of shite. Sc430 is timeless, sleek and still modern classic rare beauty
For sure
They got carried away with their ego's, bunch of overgrown schoolboys.
Hahaha
Which rimes are those? They are just beautiful!!
Sadly, I don't know the name :(
Love ur review of the gorgeous lexus 👍😁
Thank you! 👍
Excellent review
Thanks
What’s with the wind noise at 30mph? Probably something with aging weather strips :(
@@KyleLiongCars It's at the upper right hand side - passenger side - kind of near where the hood latches on. Do you think it's the weather stripping? It's irritating
Maybe the weather stripping by the hood or the cowl area
Sounds like whining.
I used to own a SC430. Loved that car. I just got tired of being made fun of constantly from the community. Sold it but I always think about buying one and doing something fun with it.
Live here in the Philippines and the SC430 will not be seen as a retiree nor girl's car haha
Made fun of? Were you wearing lipstick? I get looks and compliments regularly.
Gotta be built different to drive this car let me tell ya.
I used to own a 2002. I loved that car.
It's a beautiful timeless luxury car worth collecting. Love it
Couldn't agree more!
damn I didn't know there were SC430's that got imported here in our country
They’re incredibly rare here
Beautiful car, would love this car, love fast cars with great designing. Drat
I love it too
Dammit...I almost bought a 2005 one with a beautiful brown Interior...but I ended up with a 99 LS400.
Both are great. Don’t worry
@@KyleLiongCars I just bought a 2003 SC430, finally.
Congrats!!
Great video!
Thanks
Very nice. Thank you!
Thanks too
I have an 02 and love it.
Congrats
Nice review but You forgot about the GPS.
I actually researched that but this particular car doesn’t seem to have it
May nagbebenta pa kaya ng ganito sa pinas?
Sometimes may lumilitaw sa Marketplace
Is there a Bluetooth in this car?
I think it has it for this facelifted model
Is it possible to add an aux cord
Yes if you use a cassette to AUX adapter. Best workaround
There's a way to add an aux cord to any car. What that way is depends on the car, but there's a way for every car.
Yes correct
Grom and VAIS Technologies offer a Bluetooth adaptor that plugs into the back of the head unit. You can hide it under the shift culumn. Works great.
@@KyleLiongCars Thanks, you learn something new everyday!
I had this car new when it first came out,in my opinion it was gutless for 4ltr motor, drop the lid and it would drive like a jelly it is a beautiful bag of crap.
Still beautiful though haha
Because you still had the run flats from the factory. If you bothered to change to performance tires you would have felt a night and day difference.
@@danielchristopherdc you would think Lexus would have done that. With the roof up it wasn’t to bad but down the handling was terrible it’s handling charistristics changed completely.
We changed for a 3.5 ltr Merc CLK Beautiful car.
Nice review, I have the same car 😎.
Lovely car you got there hehe
I would drive it...especially if i had something sporty to drive when i didnt want squishy performance..
Same
Add Coilovers and sway bars and it’s very sporty and fun
I have always thought these were very ugly vehicles, I'm sure they had good quality components but you make some complaints about the steering which is too late. Also that the wheels seem to be aftermarket 19 inch wheels. I'm sure that the original sensation of steering the vehicle would be different with the original size wheels would it not?
With modern power steering, the steering feel shouldn’t be that different even if you change the rims.
You need an eye exam 😂
Very well said, good history lesson. Honest reporting. As of top gear, those immature racist idiots only care about drifting and 0-60 times . You know why the bbc fired Clarkson? Because they were fed up with his pre madonna selfish tantrums. Success got to his head, he was a fantastic journalist . But totally blew it. I have a 07 sc430 pebble beach myself, reliable and very comfortable. Nice to see someone who is passionate and can report his true opinion. And not paid under the table by a car company or told what to say. Well done!
Thank you :)
It's a great looking car but you have to change the wheels from the get go. All of the stock wheels these came with are fugly.
Some people probs like the design haha
@@KyleLiongCars I do😭 they look sharp
😄👍🏻👍🏻
love the rims, well done
:D
Review poor man's Supra next? (90's SC300 / SC400) lol
If I can find one haha
I do not hate these wheels at all!
I love it ever since it came out
It's really growing on me
14:00 I think you mean SLK, not SLR!
Sweet #rarepaps review!
Oh I think you misheard hehe! It’s SL R230 body
Damn, my mind was thinking of SLK 320 instead!
No worries. Honest mistake. The SC430 was a flagship convertible, so the SL has got to be its counterpart. The SLK is uhhh “too cheap” to go against this hahaha
Nice one 👍
Thanks
Those wheels are hideous....put the stock ones back on
I prefer the stock ones too
This car looks like shit
I quite like the look of it
🤡
@@danielchristopherdcI love the 430 era but I’ve never felt any looked good in silver at all silver kills old cars imo Sc’s really only look good in black and some other more exotic colors anything plain that’s not black like silver or beige is bleh

Same if not similar steering wheel as a revo! Hahahaha cool car though
Oonga eh pati sa Rav4 gen 1 haha
The change of wheels has made a huge difference to the appearance.
This look has already been cemented in my head haha
It works in drive.
The roof?
It does but you can’t go faster than 5mph or so
Oh got it!! Thanks :)

Nope hehe this is up North

Beautiful Lexus
Omg, I’m 5 4!!
You’ll be fine at the back

A GT, a cabrio at that, must always be able to handle properly. This car handled worse than an LS... Why even make it? Why would anyone buy such a turd? If you wanted relaxing long rides, youd get a land yacht like the LS or the GS... Time always passes judgement and this car has been a massive sales flop too.
That interior is not impressive nor beautiful... Just well mantained. You think thats special? That glossy woody feel was outdated by 80s standards...
I really love glossy wood in cars! It's also pretty comfy for a convertible
