May I make a suggestion? Remove the background music and make it Gregorian Chant. The music you chose doesn’t fit well with what you’re trying to show.
I agree on St. Patrick Cathedral. I visited the Cathedral during my trip to New York for the first time when one of my graduation gifts from high school was a trip to the Big Apple. At the time of the visit, I had been raised Baptist. In 2010, I converted to Catholicism. I am now a proud and devout Catholic.
I was very blessed to be married in the Cathedral of the Magdalene. There aren't words to describe the beauty of the stained glass windows, especially the Rose Window. The acoustics are heavenly.
Each Catholic Church I have entered is beautiful in its own right. Even when I was in the desert, just going to Mass was an experience! Thank-you for this video.
I agree. I’m not even a great fan of this Shrine’s style. But it’s so beautifully executed that it took my breath away when I first visited a month ago.
Catholics should visit the basilica in Baltimore, home of America's first Catholic cathedral. It is unlike any other Catholic church in the world, simple yet beautiful.
Honestly, the most beautiful church, cathedral or basilica is anywhere our dear Lord is present in the Tabernacle. His presence is truly all that is needed, all the other stuff is nice but only He is necessary.
Cathedral Basilica of The Sacred Heart in Newark NJ. The fifth largest cathedral in the USA and considered the finest example of French Gothic Architecture in the Western Hemisphere. Has an organ consisting of 10,000 pipes and stained glass considered to be on par with Chartes Cathedral in Paris.
Yes, I received my nursing diploma at mass there in 1968! I also went quite a lot to evening mass there. Beautiful! Now I live near the Shribe if the Most Blessed Sacrament ( Mother Angélica’s burial place) in Hanceville, Alabama. It’s magnificent!
The one that gets left off most lists is the Cathedral Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul in Philadelphia. It is extremely beautiful visually, but what I find so thrilling is that it was built by the first and only American Bishop to be canonized (St. John Neumann). When it was under construction (opened in 1864) the City was in the middle of the virulently anti-Catholic Know-nothing riots. That is why there are no windows on the first floor, except those added in a 1950's renovation. I've noticed a few stone-throwers chiming in with criticisms of the Catholic and Orthodox tradition of building beautiful buildings to celebrate our faith. Their own homes are probably quite lovely. The poor never complain about money spent on churches because they know they are built for them. That's a rich person's preoccupation. I am reminded of a story of St. John Neuman who faced criticism for the construction of the cathedral during an economic downturn. Someone accosted the bishop with the complaint: "How can you spend all this money on a building when so many men are out of work." The bishop looked over at the men building the cathedral and said; "They aren't." When Mother Theresa walked into the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (where I was a guide for a summer) she remarked: "Something beautiful for God." It used to be thought that nothing was too good for God. Now it seems anything is, in some people's view. The normal human reaction to beauty is joy and gratitude. I am uncertain what the basis of the negativity toward beauty in the service of God is, but it's definitely not OF God.
Glad to see one of Chicago’s Polish cathedrals, St. John Cantius made the list. There are many other equally impressive, including St. Stanislaus Kostka one of the oldest and St. Mary of the Angels, known as the Polish Vatican.
You forgot the National Shrine of Saint Alphonsus Liguori here in Baltimore. So many Gothic statues and high ceiling. Beautiful for the TLM. The Cathedral of Mary Our Queen is nothing but stone - very cold. The Basilica here in Baltimore is nice, but does not compare to Saint Alphonsus, which is around the corner.
In terms of cathedrals, Sacred Heart in Newark NJ and Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia are stunning, in terms of retreat houses/centers it’s the Divine Mercy Shrine in Massachusetts and Loyola Center in New Jersey, and in terms of parishes it’s Our Lady of the Seas in Buxton North Carolina. These are my personal favorites
A truly beautiful cathedral is The Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in Baltimore. And while in Baltimore visit The Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the oldest cathedral in the USA and considered the Mother church.
@@mastergmoore I was born and raised in Baltimore and have been to St. Casimir's many times in my youth. So many of the ethnic churches in East Baltimore are truly beautiful and inspirational.

Great video! A Protestant here! To Conservative Protestants in the United States Protestants need beautiful Churches again! and need more cathedrals that would be cool!
There’s also a reason why Catholics build churches like these- we believe that Jesus Christ is truly present in the Eucharist, so the beauty and grandeur of our churches reflect that. If we’re building a house for God, it had better be gorgeous 😂
The thumbnail shows St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, but somehow the video doesn’t mention it. It’s the oldest cathedral in the United States. And quite beautiful, absolutely a landmark.
Been to 4 of the 6 churches in this list out of the 367 churches and places I’ve been for Mass! There are so many beautiful churches in our country and world!
I was married in #4 on 1/14/78 - best day of my life. You have to see the Basilica from the inside to appreciate the beauty of the ceilings, windows and altars.
The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist in Savannah, Georgia is absolutely stunning and one of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen too!
Great video of such beautiful places to worship God. Sure beats the stark, blankness of protestant churches. If you put in a grill, some of them would look like a White Castile! Two points about your narrative, if a body is placed in a crypt it is not buried, it is entombed. Crypts are above ground. Second, the Saint Junipero Serra's first name is pronounced as "who NI pero." 43 years teaching high school Spanish here.
I am a member of a Presbyterian church. Yes it is plain. No statues, no stained glass. Only a large cross at the front of the church. I am proud that money isn't wasted at our church on these ornate items.
Only six? I would add both the Cathedral, and Minor Basilica of St Mary, in Minneapolis/St Paul. Also, St Josephat in Milwaukee, WI, and Holy Name Cathedral, Chicago, IL.
I was in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in 1970 while the interior was still being finished. Under the marble columns, there is brick covered concrete columns which are made up of pre-stressed concrete blocks. The church is built to withstand just about everything.
It has also been said that the National Shrine will never be truly completed, as there is always something being added (i.e. new chapels within, etc.).
Yes, the many side altars are dedicated to Our Lady. We saw Our Lady of Pontmain side altar, which led us to the actual church in France. So beautiful in the nave.
The Shrine of Our Lady of Częstochowa in Doylestown, Pennsylvania has an exact replica of the chapel in Poland. The stained glass windows in the upper church are famous as well!
I would suggest including The Basilica of St. Josaphat, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In its grandeur and opulence, it is an excellent example of the so-called Polish cathedral style of church architecture found in the Great Lakes region of North America. Modeled after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, it features one of the largest copper domes in the world. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a designated Milwaukee Landmark.
Please please please!!!! You have absolutely got to put on your list St Joseph in Macon, GA. It’s built of terracotta bricks. I used to avoid driving past it because I wouldn’t be able to keep my eyes on the road so I used to take walks past it instead and wherever I walked my head kept turning just to look at all its gorgeous features!!!! On your next video you’ve just got to put this stunning gorgeous church on!!!!
I have been blessed to have visited two of these. The Cathedral of the Madeline and the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis. I even had my high school baccalaureate Mass at the Cathedral of the Madeline. ❤❤❤
I would add the California mission churches on this list too though they aren’t huge basilicas they are very stunning and very special historical and in humble tranquil way 🥰🙏🏼🕊️✝️⛪️🌊🌺
I grew up in the middle of Illinois and starting in the late 1960s or perhaps a bit later, parish church after parish church had its altarpiece torn out and most statues removed and murals painted over. There was a desire to make Catholic parishes look like Lutheran ones, or even a bit like mosques (banners with words on them, but not complete removal of all images). The cathedral in Peoria had the entire sanctuary painted beige, I’m told. (Some clever use of paint has undone some of this.) St. Patrick’s in Decatur, Illinois had had only mediocre art, and apart from the stained glass and the corpus of the altarpiece crucifix, nearly everything was destroyed. (My parish, when I was growing up.) The corpus was placed on a bronze cross with a Jesus The Friendly Ghost outline, and suspended from the high domed ceiling over the altar. (A new altarpiece probably from a demolished church has been put in now: the proportions are wrong but it’s an improvement.) I’m glad that some Catholic parish churches and some cathedrals escaped. In many of these ruined churches, the working poor had given money they could barely afford to equip the place where they joined in Mass with something beautiful, and then proud churchmen had it ripped away to satisfy their own tastes. It was truly Satanic.
If another list is done, I Suggest the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Savannah, Georgia and also the Church of the Immaculata in Saint Mary’s, Kansas.
The Basilica of Ste.-Anne in Detroit. Exquisite and historic. Second oldest Catholic cathedral in the country. St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans--I believe the oldest Catholic cathedral in the country. Both are not only historic, but beautiful examples of French Gothic architecture.
Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, Alabama is beautiful as well. Imported marble , gold paint done by artisans from Europe- Mother Angelica said nothing is too good for God!
I say this is our type of house of worship. They enforce a strict dress code. If you happen to visit in casual attire (shorts, mini skirts) they provide you with modest clothing.
I was very glad to hear that they decorated another dome in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception with a mosaic. When I went to CUA in the 80's, 3 of the 5 domes were still waiting to be decorated. The Cathedral of the Madeleine has prominently displayed the quotation from Galatians: "If even an angel of God should preach a gospel different from what I preached to you, let him be anathema." Everyone in Utah, of course, knows that this is directed toward the Angel Moroni.
I love the sacred and the reverent, illustrated through church architecture. The first thing I want to visit in any city are its churches. I also love the ornate churches that many small towns built. A reverent Mass and congregation adds a closeness to God. The entire experience is like a glimpse of heaven.
i have been in the National Shrine in Washington. I have been in the St Louis Cathedral Basilica many times, as i live near St. Louis, and went to college in St. Louis
Some or another, you missed the oldest silica in the oldest Archies in the United States that would be the basilica of the assumption in Baltimore in fact, it was the very first cathedral in the United States and when the new cathedral was built in Baltimore became the basilica absolutely beautiful building. I recommend the visit.
The basilica was built with the oversight of archbishop John Carroll his brother was Charles Carroll, the wealthiest singer of the declaration of independence.
The shrine of the Immaculate Conception: I was in the ROTC honor guard at the upper level dedication. On the campus of Catholic University…we thought of it as our “chapel”.
I am Catholic. I have only been to the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Mexico City, It was stunning. I want to visit these churches. I know I am planning to visit New York City in the winter. I want to go to St. Patrick's Cathedral It looks very beautiful inside.
I suggest the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento, CA. It was built by a gold miner who found god, became a priest, and spent his riches building the church. Built in the 1880s, it quite beautiful and impressive.
The Cathedral of Saint Paul in St. Paul, MN should be number 2. It is the third largest Catholic Church in the US and the sixth largest church of any denomination. Standing inside is truly the most impressive building I have ever been in and I have been in A LOT of Catholic churches.
I'll never forget the first time I saw Sacred Heart Cathedral in Newark, NJ. Never would I have expected to see such a work of architecture in a slum like Newark. It's just so out of place. If you're in New York, well worth the visit.
You missed the Basilica of the Assumption by Latrobe in Baltimore, older than any of these buildings and arguably the finest building in North America.
The Basilica Of Saint Josaphat in Milwaukee, Wisconsin should be visited by all, and you will see for yourself that it is definitely among the top most beautiful Catholic churches in the United States.
I would include Cathedral of St Paul in Minnesota also St Mary of the Angels in Chicago. And although small St Peter in Volo Illinois a beautiful traditional church .
The National Shrine of the North American Martyrs, also known as the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs, is a Roman Catholic shrine in Auriesville. A few kilometers away is the Shrine of St. Kateri
I firmly agree with #1 & #2... I think you're missing the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, NJ. That church is amazing and touts stained glass that rivals some cathedrals in Europe, one of the longest center aisles in the country, special craftsmanship in the masonry inside.
I've been to St. Patrick's and the National Shrine in Washington DC. Even as a native New Yorker, I like the Basilica in Washington better. It's larger, has more artwork, doesn't have a wood and plaster ceiling (St. Patrick's makes a few compromises with the architecture), and it has a wider variety of chapels and styles than St. Patrick's does.
I knew I'd suggest the Cathedral-Basilica in Saint Louis if it had not been included. IT WAS! One of the visually stunning church interiors in the world.
the National Shrine of the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, co-cathedral with the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen. Both are located in Baltimore. The Basilica was built as the cathedral church of the first diocese of the USA. As you enter there is a list of all the many bishops consecrated there.
May I make a suggestion? Remove the background music and make it Gregorian Chant. The music you chose doesn’t fit well with what you’re trying to show.

I suggest the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah, GA. It's stunning inside and out. Simply majestic.
I suggest the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento, CA. It was built by a gold miner who found god, became a priest, and spent his riches building the church. Built in the 1880s, it quite beautiful and impressive.
Oratory of St Francis de Sales In stl
I’ve attended Mass in four of these, and I agree with your assessments. But in my opinion, the Basilica of St. Josaphat in Milwaukee tops them all!
St. Joseph the Worker in Williamsport, Pa.
You missed the Cathedral of the SacredHeart, Newark, NJ. Recognized as the most beautiful Catholic Cathedral.
Basilica of St Therese in San Antonio Texas
Amen
Cathedral Basilica of SS Peter and Paul Archdiocese Philadelphia
Was also going to recommend this. St John the Baptist in Manayunk is also very beautiful for a neighborhood parish.
The National Shrine of the North American Martyrs, also known as the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs, is a Roman Catholic shrine in Auriesville. A few kilometers away is the Shrine of St. Kateri

@@DadoMac Thank you.
I've been to most of these. The one in Salt Lake is lovely, but not top 6 worthy. Have you seen the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark?
Mine eyes have seen the coming of the Lord,He is trampling out the vinters where the grapes of wrath are stored,Glory
Holy Hill Basilica in Hubertus Wisconsin.
Cathedral of St Paul in Minnesota. Way more impressive.
Jacksonville, Florida's Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
Beautiful!
My childhood community had a beautiful Catholic Church. The bishop ordered it torn down. Still struggle with that. Over 30 yrs ago.
Very sad ~
You should add the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians in Hubertus, WI.
I knew I'd suggest the Cathedral-Basilica in Saint Louis if it had not been included. IT WAS! One of the visually stunning church interiors in the world.
Old St Pat’s, the original cathedral. in lower Manhattan, tops the “new” St Pat’s, imo.
St Hyacinth's church, Dunkirk NY has a beautiful mural in back of the front altar ❤!!!
Absolutely true
the National Shrine of the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, co-cathedral with the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen. Both are located in Baltimore. The Basilica was built as the cathedral church of the first diocese of the USA. As you enter there is a list of all the many bishops consecrated there.
