  • The whole childhood for a tundra child is preparation for severe life in conditions of the Far North. And the main goal for parents is to raise a worthy heir, to teach their son skills of reindeer husbandry, and to raise their daughter as a skilled hostess of the choum (nomadic home). Northern children are quite free in their actions. Practically since the moment a baby begins to consciously look at the world, grownups consider him or her equal and communication takes place as with a full member of the family.
