I can’t thank Sheri and the Alpacka crew enough. I hit a whitewater kayaking wall a few years ago but your boat progression with the Refuge and Valkyrie, not to mention the skies the limit adventure route opportunities with these boats, got me back in the game. 👏
That video wasn't enough...I want more!!! Sheri, Thor, Sarah, skiing, packrafting, overland travel, mountain ranges, rivers, family, growth, perseverance, obstacles, Alaska, Roman Dial, difficulties, challenges, memories...this video has EVERYTHING. Packrafting always seemed to me, to be the perfect combination of all things adventure. In 2010, I had just discovered packrafts and was ALL IN!!! But, I had to delay my entry into packrafting because we had a baby on the way. I kept adventuring with ice climbing, mountaineering, hunting, and the regular stuff, but always felt like packrafting was going to be the ultimate... In 2020, my friend Richard, took me on a Father's Day trip over Crow Pass and back to our cabin's at the Nature Center via the Raven Cabin/Eagle River/Echo Bend. I had borrowed a raft from my friend, Wayne, in Girdwood. We hiked Crow Pass, stayed at the Raven Cabin, then rafted Raven Creek/Eagle River to Echo Bend. I remember standing on the bank of Eagle River at Echo Bend, looking back up valley with joyous tears in my eyes, thankful for the amazing adventure I had just had. In 2021, I bought my 1st raft(classic yak with a cruiser deck) with some money that I had received from when my Dad passed away, shortly after that, my little piggy bank finally got big enough to order the BHA Forager. A raft for the wife, then a raft that my son and myself could fit in...what adventures we've had... Mother's Day that next year brought Mom's wolverine into our lives(fireweed color!!!). We lived near the Nature Center for the next couple years where I could raft portions of the Eagle River after dinner on a whim. We now live in Cordova, AK and we had made our packrafts a big part of our outdoor adventures along with making some new friends by introducing them to the amazing world of packrafts. My son is now 12 and rafts the classic yak, while the wife and I enjoy the worlverine and foarger. Call me odd, but seeing this video made me appreciate my packrafts on a level I never imagined. The family aspect of packrafting was known, but never really understood until watching this video. It makes me so happy to have packrafting as a part of my family and certainly appreciate all that The Tingey Family has done to make that possible.
Absolute badass! One of the greatest gear purchases I’ve ever made was my Scout. It allowed me to take our group’s traditional backcountry trips, and exponentially open up the possibilities of where we could go, what we could do, and how we could explore. There’s nothing like packing a sub 3 lb. raft into a pack for a 7 day trip and barely feeling it’s presence in your baseweight. Thank you Sheri, and family.
A very touching and well done bio of Sheri Tingey, the pioneering creator of modern day packrafting. A must-see for every paddler, especially if you are into packrafting!
What a great story, I got turned on to you guys from Lee at The Boat People, and I am right now eyeballing an older Scout that I found for sale recently, as I'm a huge fan of buying older used boats so they all get good homes and good playtime. I love that you guys love dogs as well... I lost my best friend ever, she was 15.5 years old - the dog in my profile picture - a to be destroyed rescue dog at age 2, oh man by saving that dog's life she saved mine !! Anyhow I look forwards to someday being a part of the Alpacka family of paddlers once I get a boat of my own - soon I hope !!
So many chronic conditions aren’t obvious but have a massive impact on our lives. I bicycled from Chicago to NYS. I didn’t get as far as I’d hope. I was just too exhausted. My next multi- day trip will be with e-Assist. And managing meds that need to be kept cold!
What an incredible story. I've only been peripherally aware of packrafting and learned about this company through this video. Looking forward to checking it out a bit more :)
I love the whole Alpackaraft Story and -Familiy and happy to be a small small part of it. Such a great film. Love your Packrafts and happy to have 30pc. of them. 🥰😎
This has got to be officially the coolest film I have ever seen, Sheri is One heck of a Super Cool Lady! 🛶🥇 Can’t wait to order Mine this Christmas & Another In the spring. 25:22 Couldn’t Agree More. WOW & Thank you Indeed.🛶🌊
