Thank you for putting all the main steps within the first two minutes. A lot of illustrator tutorials are 10 minutes long when all you're looking for are the three or so clicks it takes to do something. The tip for getting rid of the halo is also much appreciated because I thought it was a rendering bug.

Haven’t watched Eurovision and def not into heavy metal haha. I like a lot of melancholy music that have big crescendo finishes. Also a healthy mix of Radiohead and Coldplay lol

Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you! This is the best tutorial I've found on this irritating function.
Thank you so much for this Pixel and Bracket, it certainly saves the messy gradient to each letter that you get otherwise. Even when you outline the font, you still can't do a continuous gradient. There's just one thing to note - after applying the gradient fill to the text, you are unable to outline the font. However, if you outline the font first and keep the fill 'no fill' then apply the gradient you get the same effect.
A likely solution would be to outline, add a gradient to a separate rectangle, then use the outlined text as a mask 🤔.... maybe 🤷🏻♂️

You can also "make compound shape" in pathfinder. Not sure why it's in pathfinder, but it works. (In the drop down -"3 bars" section.)
