Minute Repeater Pocket Watch - After Restoration - Instructions for Owner

  • This Minute Repeater Pocket watch, made in Switzerland by famous Watchmaker Henry Capt, is by far the most complicated watch I have ever worked on. Originally intended just for the owner of this watch, the patient and discerning John Hawley of California, it struck me that this off the cuff piece might have quite a long of appeal and general interest. I have quite a lot of footage of the work I did to restore this watch and when I get the time for its editing I will follow this up with a more detailed look at this watch.
There is not a lot of detailed informationon Minute Repeaters and I think this is because the guys that work on these beautiful pieces are scarce and the set of those that do this and also make videos is probably very very small.
I have made two more videos about this watch and as explained above another s in the pipeline. The existing videos are ....

What a work of art , I used to make a living as a automotive and classic jaguar technician, and I thought the jaguar v12 engine was quite complex, but these minute repeaters are pure class. Well done Richard.

Hi Keith ... we had Jaguar engines in our CVRT combat vehicles. I was always amazed how much power these must deliver to a car if they could make a small tank 'pick up' as they did. The tolerances on the minute repeater are I think a bit finer ... good to hear from you Keith! Richard

Richard, I have watched your videos and marvelled at the beauty of the timepieces you have so professionally presented. I was particularly captivated by the Henry Capt. you have illustrated in the "Watchmaker and Emporer". Yesterday, I happened to chance on a lady´s H.C minute repeater in my town and, inspired by your videos, decided to buy it. Thank you very much.

Another great, great video Richard. Whilst the minute repeater isn't my type of thing (and wildly out of my budget!, I still marvel at its mechanics and the engineering that has gone into it. Hi Greg ... so pleased that folks are enjoying this. I was supposed to go out today with a Smashed Modern Rolex (2235) but I had trouble sourcing a part so production went on hold and I had to resort to sharing this originally intended for John in California. The interesting bit ofr me is normally my videos take about 12 hours of time at least to produce, sometimes twice that; I shot tis in 40 minutes and had it edited in about 30 minutes. But its the 3 best video in terms of views at this stage from my last ten videos! I guess you hit on it maybe in your comment ... it's the watch and not the video that is attaching folks here! It is such a lovely piece. Really good to hear from you as always and thanks for the info you sent through. Richard

So if a gentleman wanted to know the time in the dark bedroom he could just reach for the watch on his bedside table and activate the repeater. Better than getting up in the freezing cold and trying to get a gas lamp going. And yes the mechanism is both complex and elegant. Thanks for the feedback. Richard
