I think there's an argument to be made that goes further than that. If it's safe to say that the very best musicians in the modern world are in progressive metal, and it is safe to say that, objectively speaking. Be it when examining the musical composition, performance professionalism, technical proficiency, technological innovation, or even simply as a culture that breeds and demands excellence... Progressive metal is where it's at. There's simply no competition. So if we've established that, which we have, then we're having a conversation about who's the very best of the best within that movement. I put it to you, that conversation can't be had without mentioning Epica as a contender for the best band in the world right now. Although the great classical music and Opera composers are still considered to be the best to ever live. It's not hard to make the point that progressive metal is getting awfully close and Epica are six of the best.
@@scarlett01 I think I understand what you're saying; that the band has become a much more highly produced operation and that contrivance comes at the expense of the anticipation of spontaneity. I mean, naturally that's how that works: highly ordered works of creativity require a very high level of contrivance. That said, it's not like the band, more specifically Mark and Isaac, are particularly spontaneous creatively. The end goal is, and always was, to reach a level of artistic sophistication and technical excellence that would make their masterpieces worthy of disproportionate resources and the orderliness that necessitates. Spontaneity can be fun, but rarely does it inspire awe.

The Holographic Principle is a prime example of this: that is, this album has received good reviews from the critics while the fans were divided. Anymay check Haken

I was to the concert in Copenhagen, Have had the ticket since 2019, because of covid it was moved until now. But tbh it was not worth the wait. The sound on the concert was terrible, Simones voice just drowned in the high volume guitars. You could only hear what she sang when there was no guitars playing. And it was a shame because they played all the best songs possible. But it felt mostly like instrumental concert due to volume problems on the hole set. But nice to see them live anyway for what it was. Hope for a better experience some other time.
