- A quick comparison of two of the best All-Terrains:
The BF Goodrich Ko2 vs. the Falken Wildpeak AT3/W.
From a guy who doesn’t know a ton about tires, but does a lot of research and owns both.
Back when I was new to my Wilkpeak AT3Ws I pulled into an icy parking lot and stepped out of my truck and instantly fell on my ass before I could even close the door. The parking lot was kind of like a bowl where I was and formed an ice lake and I didn't even notice how slippery it was just driving around and I wasn't doing just 5 mph either because it was mid afternoon and the parking lot was big at Lowes and fairly empty. I knew it would be slippery because it was icy but not cling onto something or you might fall slippery. Good thing I keep ice cleats under my back seats for my boots.
LOL! I haven't had my WildPeaks in any gnarly ice or snow yet. That might change here in a few weeks!
I've driven both and agree with your assessment. IF you are more concerned with snow and winter, I think the Wildpeaks are better. They have better siping and it's full depth so they should perform well for the life of the tire. The KO2s are good tires but I think the Falkens are better. If I were out west, in rockier terrain, I'd probably go with the KO2s, or the Falkens in a E load range.
Good analysis. I agree!
I've had 2 sets of wildpeaks that both wore out in 20k miles pretty upset about that. Switching to the ko2s I guess time will tell
@@mikemoonman1940 Very interesting. Treadwear warranty on the WildPeaks is 6 years/55k miles and 50k on the Ko2. I'd be able to prove that with documented oil change intervals surrounding the time of purchase, and OBDII scans. If they wore out that quickly, I'd file a warranty claim. First I have ever heard about premature wear.
I own both the BFGs and the AT3Ws. Both sets are 235/75 R15. The BFGs are on my 97 Jeep Cherokee. The AT3Ws (10 ply version) are on my 95 F150 4x4. Both are great tires. I was deliberate for my selection for each vehicle. The XJ see's light off-road use and bad weather. The F150 see's bad weather including snow plowing and light hauling. The ride quality is better with the BFG (but again, the AT3Ws are 10 ply). During rain driving the AT3Ws seem to grip/handle better (yes, even in an F150 with an empty bed). Ultimately I think it comes down to actual intended use. Also, whenever I hear that people are unhappy with the BFGs, it's usually because they chose an oversize version that's wider than stock. I think this causes the poor wet performance that's reported. Just my 2 cents.
What tire size will you go with the KO2 on a stock suspension 95 single cab tacoma 4wd i was thinking 265/75/16
@FOURFTP Best thing would be to see the tires in person before you commit. Also, you need to consider what rims you will be using. Check the backspacing and width with aftermarket rims.
Awesome opinion with great details. Thanks for sharing!
I use the Falkens and so far so good 👍
Agreed. Love them so far. No complaints.
I just switched from the KO2's on my Jeep to the Toyo AT3's. For around town and my Jeep use, this was a great choice. Much quieter and better ride than the KO2's (IMO). Interestingly enough, I also just put the HD Terrain BFG's on my Ram 2500 which is a considerable departure from my OEM Firestones. What I don't like about the Toyo's is the fake, embossed sidewall tread pattern. The KO2's crush it in that regard. The only reason I didn't look at the Falcon's is because they came on my OEM Ram 1500 and I wasn't in love with them. Now, in retrospect, I think I would have been happy had I put the Falcons on the Jeep. But overall I'm happy with the Toyos - especially performance-wise around town. I have a little video on the HD BFG's on my channel.
Did the Ram come with Wildpeak AT3s or another Falken tire? I’ve never seen Wildpeaks from the factory. KO2s and Jeeps are like peanut butter and jelly!
My 2019 Ram did come with the Wildpeaks. And I agree the KO2’s are the best for the Jeep. I do like the ride quality on these Toyos though.
Seems similar to what I did when buying car tires last time; look at all the little details. 😁
It is a fault and/or gift of mine. I over analyze all major decisions… and most minor ones!
no one else caught that 18/32 isnt a proper fraction ? its 9/16 in america
Any noticeable change in fuel mileage going with a higher load range?
Probably a drop of .4 MPG in switching to the Wildpeaks. Difficult to say if it is the tread pattern/depth, added weight due to construction/materials ect.
Don’t know if you see a drop going from an XL to a D rating of the same tire. I have too many variables to narrow it down.
If towing a 7k lb loaded travel trailer with an f150, would you go quth the LT or could D handle towing on mountain highways?
D is heavier than LT, if I was doing any regular towing, I'd opt for heavier and go D.
Well done. Thank you. 😊
I noticed on wild peaks the have a LT tire and a P tire on same size. Which should I get for 4Runner 285/70r17. What’s the difference
Not an expert. But LT’s are “light truck” and pretty sure the P is “passenger” but also stands for something else.
Bottom line, an LT is going to be heavier, and heavier duty. I’d always opt for heavier and go with the LT. I didn’t notice a difference in ride quality going from XL to D, and I doubt you’d notice a difference going from P to LT. In theory you could sacrifice negligible MPG… but the 4Runner isn’t putting up great numbers there anyway. If you never tow, and aren’t hauling heavy weight, P is fine. I’d just rather have more capacity and not need it, than less capacity and find myself wishing I had more.
I agree with the LT and P descriptions given. It's great for a quick glance giving general tire construction ruggedness which in turn has greater capacity. For further load information look for a number just after 285/70R17[number] this gives your load index and you will have to cross reference a chart giving you the capacity of the individual tire. Multiply that capacity you looked up by 4 for total weight capacity. eg 1= 99lbs 99lbsx4=396lbs
Go with the P rated tire on a 4runner. The runner isn't heavy enough to justify that higher load range. Plus it will kill what little power you have. If your not rock. Crawling or hauling heavy. Stay with a P rated tire.
P Tire for Toyotas! 👍🏻
Went with ko2’s
Wich is more quiet?
Difficult to say. One is on a 2016, one is on a 99. The acoustics on the 2016 are better all around. I did not notice the Falkens being louder than the OEMS. I did notice the BFGs being slightly louder than OEM. but I mean VERY slightly. Neither is obnoxiously loud, or even noticeable.
Just installed som Fukken Wildpeaks! KO's are not so gud on pavement and too falken heavy!
I've had both KO2 and AT3W and AT3W much better in wet and snow and much quieter and great off road.
Appreciate the insight, and I agree with you. Don't know why the Ko2 gets the "legendary" reputation. I like them, but I think I bought into the hype.
What wheels do you have on the chevy... They are beutifull
Appreciate it! I thought they had a cool classic look. They are American Racing AR62 Outlaw II. Believe it or not, they were pretty reasonably priced too! I built a wheel and tire package from Tire Rack in 2019. $144 a piece.
@@ChoresOnTheFarmChannel Thank you... I will look into them... thinking about getting new wheels with My next Tires and those are Slick
KO2s are way heavier due to the Kevlar walls. So the $50 a tire don't mean so much. everyone knows the KO2s are slippery on water and once their 50% spent their junk.
Wildpeaks All the Way!
👊🏽👌🏽💪🏽🇦🇷
Ko2s
Falken at3w is far superior! Bfg ko2 sucks. Mickey Thompson baja boss a/t are awesome too.
Both have been good to me, but I'd go Wildpeak if I was buying again tomorrow. No experience with the Mickey Thompsons. I feel like they are a little more expensive and a little harder to find. That doesn't mean they aren't awesome though!
The amount of videos on tires makes me laugh😅 and every tire is really shitty or the best tire ever😂
I spent hours researching tires. Most people talk about why they switched from one of the top 5 to the other. I have both simultaneously. I prefer the Falken - they are both good tires.
I have ko2 they suck
I don't put them through their paces, but they haven't let me down on farm lanes/mud/fields or hauling. Better than the Michelin all-seasons they replaced
Especially on wet pavement
I agree. TireRack is a reputable company and have been in business for a long time. I also have driven to DE from NJ and it’s exactly how you described the service. Quick and easy.
booming economy?.....bahhhaaaaaa.....thanks for the laugh!!
It is. I hate to given Biden any credit but this big recession isn’t hitting like so many predicted. At least not now.
@@kross1261 that's the most idiotic comment I ever heard...so gas prices at all time high, inflation at a 42 year high, nevermind the food/retail prices at a high and climbing and no one is effected?...keep drinking the blue (democrat) Kool aid
@@kross1261😅
I don't like Biden but my business is booming.
Stick to the subject at hand. I can careless about picking up tires at tire rack to save money, after all, read your own title!
You took time out of your day to comment that? Just don't watch the video. If someone lives close to a distribution center and can save 10% on a set of four... why would I not include that? Cost is a consideration in purchasing a set of tires.
