Hi there. Thank you for taking the time out to help explain some things about the glowforge. I will be using your referral code today. When I make my purchase. I will be purchasing the glowforge pro.. thank you again.
You can align the camera with target tool. I made a cut over an existing cut aligning on the image. Image misalignment is not a con after this tool appeared. You must run a wizard that test your machine, and align things together. You should find it on the forum easily. (Community is a pro on this machine)
I will say it has gotten way better with updates. My biggest point was that it's still not completely perfect and that you just have to learn your machine to figure out what you need to do. I end up grouping all my layers and ignoring them until I need them so when I run multiple different engraves I can guarantee alignment

Used your code and ordered a plus. I'm kind of impatient, so faster might be better in some cases. Really appreciate the video, yours was one of the better ones I've seen for honest reviews.
Fantastic, Informative video! Thank you! I've already ordered a GF+ to be delivered to me in the UK hopefully in the next week, so I'm doing lots of research and prep. This video helped me to ease my anxiety and answer some of the questions I'm already worrying about. My biggest worry is the cost of repair given where I live and it's nice to hear that if looked after, the machine can last a long time. Hopefully, I'll be successful with it enough to pay it off and cover the cost of any issues should they arise a couple of years down the line! Anyway, thanks again, new Subscriber here!
That was fantastic. I’ve owned my GF for almost two months now and haven’t unboxed it yet because I’m building a table for it along with a new desk. Since then I’ve been learning about it and you just taught me more than anyone else. Thanks.
i dont know how you have left it in a box that long! i ripped it out like a kid on christmas morning the second it showed up!! Thank you though :) im glad to have helped!
Great review but two things to add - 1: You can now move items in space through the measurement tool while in the software - and I totally agree; using the camera is a NO NO, it just doesn’t work at all for aligning anything needing precision. 2: The naming as Printer I think is also to help avert some customs import issues so I think there are other things going on in the background here. Cool videos, keep up the good work.
You cut out stickers? What do you need the tape for? Can you use it in conjunction with your cutting machine ie: scan and cut? Why did you start a business with it? What do you sell the most? Can you cut t-shirts?
That's a ton of questions. I would recommend googling them individually for better results but here's some quick answers 1. No, I would recommend a cricut for that as you don't want to put PVCs or vinyls on there. 2. Tape is to mask from laser burns. 3.i don't know what yours asking here. 4. I started a business because I wanted to...no real other reason than that. 5. Can't really answer that because I don't sell like a traditional store. 6. Yes. Look up cutting fabric.
The cost was a huge hurdle for us as well but we wanted a laser that we didn't need to fight with and that is definitely what we got. A machine that always works
@@WhenGeeksCraft Definitely what I am looking for. I purchase a Genmitsu 3018 CNC with the laser kit and I went through like 10 pieces of wood trying to get the focus right, position right, etc. Through all that I made one 1.5" keychain for a friend. Very frustrating. I need something better.
Can you please demo the noise made? I just watched a video on a personal review where the guy DID have his machine running, and it was LOUD. Then, he said that, to try and bypass the noise, he would throw a couple of folded blankets over the left side/exhaust fan to cover the noise (he said it worked, but didn't demo how much it worked). Noise is one factor for me. Also, thank you for mentioning how thick cutting material should be. I have been wanting to order a 3D acrylic printer along with a Glowforge Basic, because I want to revive my acrylic hobby again, preferavly w/o having to make molds.
I use my cricut with some armor-etch to do glass...its just easier as the glowforge cannot fit glasses over 2" thick. i have done small shot glasses but engraving too much glass can introduce little fragments into your machine and cause damage down the road.
I don't believe there is enough z depth on a GF for a rotary attachment. They would have to do a major modification to allow the added 6-10" required below the lens.
The price is way too high for me. I'm currently getting an Ortur Laser Master 2 20watt next week, which may not be quite as fancy but the price is way lower. And it does work just with software (GRBL or Lightburn).
you had me at milwaukee (la crosse girl here) but you hooked me with the cat. Still on the fence... primarily cuz im am super nervous i wont be able to troubleshoot any issues. i see a lot of posts about issues on delivery! i also just need to see a video of someone doing a project from start to finish without just clicking the buttons like i might know what they are... do you have one? im still searching!
There are not many issues to troubleshoot which is nice. there are only a handful of issues that can come up all of which are pretty straight forward. I have one start to finish project - ua-cam.com/video/mUI4Ui7Gd7Y/v-deo.html goes though how to design something and then how to print it.
I would say it depends on the metals. I would look up on the glowforge community forum what you are looking to engrave on and see what settings others have used. No matter what though, you cannot cut it.
Did you end up purchasing the air filter add on? If not do you have a video where you show how you vented it? This is literally my dream machine, but it is so far out of my price range it's sad, but i'm going to continue watching other people use them because it's so fascinating!
You mentioned water bottles, Im looking to purchase and use this laser cutter for my family Hydro Flask water bottles, will this not cut water bottles?
Hey Nicole, these are great thoughts, and largely reflect my own experience as well. For precision, do you use snapmarks or find them useful for your kind of projects? Depending on the project, they are amazing, but otherwise, I totally get the camera alignment woes.. oh ya, and the internets woes... thankfully my files aren't as ginormous as yours. thanks for sharing!
I don't use snap marks. I just make sure all my files in inkscape are aligned before importing. Then I move them all together and ignore what I don't need
I have to say that your video was really great. I am not gonna say Perfect but great. I don't want you to get a big head but you have convinced me to get it well the Pro. Now why does glass create issues, if you clean it out once you are done? I am planning on mainly working with glass and certain approved metals for Logo's for clients and stuff. if you have time please let me know and maybe we can exchange Emails and you can further explain.
What a great review! Thank you! The best part, the cat at the end! (I have 2!) I'm curious, if I was using it almost exclusively to "engrave" cutting boards... with a saying or a picture or whatever... how long would each print likely take?
It's really depends on how much you are engraving. Id your putting like an inch of text in the corner then like 15 minutes. If you are doing the whole board (depending on quality of engrave/lines per inch) can take like 2 hours
Thanks for a great video. I’m considering one now, and have been watching plenty of videos on this, yours was easily one of the best! One thing I missed and haven’t heard before. What’s the masking take for on surfaces like plywood and acrylic? Thanks!
masking just keeps the surfaces clean from burn marks. its not REALLY NECESSARY but it saves some hassle :) if you look up masking for laser cutting, you will see a tonnnn of resources that will help you decide if you want to use it or not
Hi! Some people complain of the noise level of the machine. Do you find that to be a problem? Also, does it give off a lot of fumes and do you have yours vented outside or did you buy the air filter? Thanks for your time!
Ohhh it's loud. It's very loud. But there's with any laser. Most of the loudness is from the fans. But yes it sounds like an airplane lol I wear noise canceling headphones if I need to work next to it. I have it vented out the window. There is some odor, especially with acrylics but it's nothing that makes me want to spend 900+ on a filter.
Can the Glowforge do laser cutting/engraving on glass? Oh, and this was a great review. So informative. Love the fact that you are reviewing a year later and that you are not sponsored at this point. Thanks!
Yes it can engrave in glass. We put masking tape on glass before engraving on it. Glass is kinda abrasive though to machines. I wouldn't recommend doing too many glasses. We have gone a handful and it works great, I just personally don't plan on doing too much more glass
Is it safe to have the glowforge in an apartment using only the air cleaner that they also sell? One of the materials I intend to cut is acrylic. I’ve heard of the smell but nothing else. I have two children and would not want to expose them to any chemicals...do you have any knowledge about all of this? Thank you so much for any info you can give.
The glowforge is safe to use just venting out the window. If you don't have access to a window, you can use the air assist but it's an extra expense that seems unnecessary to me if you can get next to a window. The glowforge is safe enough to be in schools. It's meant for anyone to be able to use. I wouldn't worry about your children. As long as you use glowforge materials or materials that are safe for lasering (don't use pvc or vinyl) you and your family are very fine. Acrylic smells like a nail salon but you really only smell it when you open the lid.
Thanks so much for your informative video! I'm very close to pulling the trigger and I will definitely use your code when I do. I just have a question about the filter. Do you use it or are you just venting out a window? I'd like to use this in my home office (extra bedroom) Curious to know if it's smoky or smelly. We have a cat, too. Don't want to get anyone sick. Thanks!
that would mean a lot to us! From the video I don't know if you can tell but this is in my home office and it's just vented out the window. We have a second video talking about making it clean and quiet. That may help show you our set up a bit!
Is it possible to turn this into a full time job? I know that's a loaded question but I do graphic designs and plan to paint over them once engraved. Not sure how much people are willing to pay for wall decor pieces as I can go to places like Hobby Lobby for stuff like that for less. I like the pregraded wood and was also wondering if that's worth it. I know you mentioned using that acrylic and making a good amount of money while only spending 14. I'd just like to hear your opinion on this kind of stuff if you have time, thanks!
It really depends on you honestly. You can definitely use this to make a full time living but it's more about how much time/ effort you are looking to invest into marketing/socials. I have found people want to pay for quality art but they won't go looking for it. You need to find them. I put just as much time into UA-cam/Instagram/reddit and instructables as I do making things. I set an hourly rate on myself, add in material expenses and a buffer in case things fail or need to be redone. Remember your not a MFG plant and give yourself the payment you deserve. I'm very firm on pricing and it has allowed me to be successful
I totally understand. For me, it's really not the end of the world because it's a great machine but for others that don't have access to fast internet or can't get over the camera quirks, I can see how that can be an issue.
Thinking about buying one. How big is the cutting tray? You mentioned you wished it was bigger, that was my issue buying a cnc machine because the workspace is so small.
Hello from "up north" in EC, WI. Thanks for this, I was looking for a video like this from someone who has the basic (the one I'm considering getting)!
so after a year- if you had to choose again from the 3 models, would you have purchased the basic again or the plus? Thanks in advanced . I am looking into purchasing one, and will be using your link
Thanks for the great video it was the last one that I saw that sealed the deal for me.I just ordered a GF Basic using your code so enjoy the referral fee... :-)
i didnt start selling anything from my glowforge until about 7 months into owning it. I started an etsy store in October of 2019. After 3 months of selling, I paid off the GF basic. That includes some referrals i received from Glowforge in 2019
it really all depends. Some posts on the community say no - community.glowforge.com/t/is-it-possible-to-engrave-guns/42662/3 but some say yes! community.glowforge.com/t/engraving-ar-mag/17159 I think it really depends on thickness and materials you are using
I honestly cannot comment on that too much because I have only used these glowforge out of the ones you listed off. Hopefully someone else in the comments can help out!
I have had my machine for almost two years and I just replaced the cable like two months ago. It does wear eventually but it was a 10 dollar replacement part so I bought three for if it fails again
I hope it’s okay to ask, do you use your iPad to run the glowforge? I’m trying to find an app that is glowforge friendly. I’m so new at this I squeak. Thank you
Great video! Thanks for keeping it real! I’ve been super tempted to get my own glowforge but I’m worried I won’t have a way to translate my images, they’re not vector files. I’m not techy AT ALL & I use Autodesk Sketchbook for my art, do you know if your images have to be vectorized to be picked up by the glowforge or if files created on Sketchbook can be picked up?
Thanks for watching! I use sketchbook a lot. You can export thos files as photoshop files to a computer (i use free gimp). If you are just looking to just engrave those photos you can gust export it as a high quality page. Vectors are not always needed. If you are looking to cut a shape then I would export it from sketchbook into gimp, copy and paste from gimp to Inkscape then make a bitmap( auto-generated vector) of what you want to cut.. it sounds way more difficult than it really is. Its actually really simple. Community.glowforge.com is where I learned to do everything. You do not need to be techy to make cool stuff on a glowforge. It is ment for simplicity
When Geeks Craft phew, thank god it picks up sketchbook 😂 I was so worried I’d have to relearn another program. Sounds a little intimidating but I’m confident I’ll get the hang of it! Thank you for the response!
No worries! I start like every project in sketchbook. I go over the process a bit in my map video of tamreil and of Azeroth. If you have any specific questions, feel free to bother me on Instagram! I respond much faster there lol
Absolutely. My husband does everything with the 3d printer. I can't get that stupid thing to turn on. The glowforge is insanely user friendly. It's like night and day.
How would you rate the noise when its running? I've been thinking about one for awhile but price is holding me back. Making some money with my K40 now and thinking about getting one but recently found out its noisy on a glowforge demo. I would like to use indoors but not sure if it would be too loud.
We have a second video up on our channel about how we made it quieter. It used to be insanely loud...now with an external air system, it sounds like a fan in the window. Its so quiet now
@@WhenGeeksCraft thanks for the reply. Ill look for that video. They really hide that it's noisy pretty well. Been watching the demos for 2 years and this week was first time they mentioned the decibel level.
Thank you for your video is was so informative and real. I’m on the fence about buying this to start a business but I’m not real tech savvy at ALL. I’m afraid I’ll get frustrated after buying it and not know how to really use it. What program/s do you recommend or videos do you recommend I see to help me learn how to create designs to then transfer into glowforge and its products? Thanks again? It I buy.... definitely will hook you up with the referral code, it’s been the best video I’ve seen so far. 🤗
Oh hey thanks!! Honestly it's the simplest laser you can get. You can design and print with PowerPoint if you want too. I highly recommend checking out any videos from glowforge or tutorials from the community.glowforge.com page. The community is full of supportive people. I had no idea how to make anything when I got it. I downloaded Inkscape (free software) and learned how to make vectors and boom...here we are. Its crazy easy and there are tons of free projects in the community page!
All of the things you don't like are solved by getting the larger Chinese cutters. Get a 80-120W laser, with the much larger bed, thicker cutting and the rotary jig. Get Lightburn software to manage your files locally. All for about the same price. It is not quite as user friendly, but your familiarity with lasers will make it a smaller transition than you are probably thinking it is. Also there is lots of help for K40 variants and videos on YT too. I haven't purchased one here, but this was recommended by another channel as a US middleman to take the risk out of buying the Chinese lasers. www.toolots.com/advertising-signage-industry/laser-cnc-engraving/laser-cutter.html
I would recommend reaching out to glowforge support with that question. We have a gig of internet at our house so I cannot tell you for sure what your experience would be. Support@glowforge.com is where I would start
They are usually pretty honest in their support from my experience. For another option, Facebook has the glowforge users group. That is fulllllll of honest people that will really tell you what's up!
Some other videos have mentioned consumable parts. Do you know anything about if there are parts on this that must ultimately be replaced because they wear down over time? If so, how much are those parts typically? I'm trying to put together a business plan and am trying to anticipate expenses. Thanks!
Laser tube and lenses really is it. Tubes last for 500 hours approximately and cost 500. I have had my glowforge for 16 months and still haven't needed a tube replacement. Mirror only needs replacing if it gets damaged. I clean it regularly so it's in good shape. I think the cost is like 200. If you go to shop.glowforge.com and look in the parts section you will see all the costs
I do require the rotary capability but don't want to pull the trigger on the Muse just yet. I also won't buy Glowforge because of the internet requirement.
that makes sence. If you need that then a glowforge will never work for you. The internet requirement really isnt that big of a deal as long as you have decent internet. i understand why people are unhappy about that though.
I don’t even understand the concept of needing the internet to use hardware at home. What happens when the company goes belly up? You can’t use your machine anymore? 10 minute uploads!? No way. I’ve used laser cutters before, and the hardest thing is getting settings right for your material, but I didn’t consider that to be “hard”. Laser cutters are not rocket science. The cutters I used didn’t have easy features, it took a small amount of learning, but overall a laser cutter is an easy thing to use to begin with.
Don't get me wrong, I am worried about if they were to ever go under. The good thing is, I don't see Glowforge going anywhere any time soon and if they do, I would hope they figure out a way for these machines not to be paperweights. Since uploading this video, I have figured out ways to make my large engraves upload faster. Large PNGs exported at the max quality from Inkscape rather than 100,000+ node Vectors. It now takes my files around a minute to process now and it's much smoother in the web interface. Settings aren't too hard to figure out though. I have a document on my computer of all the materials I use and what settings work for me or what I have found on the user community.
Its one of my least favorite things about the glowforge but I really haven't run into any problems yet because I always have internet 😅 its just slow I'm comparison to a desktop application
I’m seriously thinking of purchasing a Glowforge but I’m having trouble deciding on which one one to buy? Which one would you recommend? This will be used for crafts signs and other crafting projects? Thank for any help you can give me
When Geeks Craft do you think the plus is better? I only ask because I don’t want to but one and then the plus gets better . Like cricket machines Thank you for your help and advice
Honestly look at everything I can make on my channel. I can make insane things with just a basic. If I were to buy another one tomorrow, I would get another basic
Yes. I believe that is the leather that is most recommended in the community. If your ever looking for what it will and will not cut, I recommend community.glowforge.com
Totally looking into buying a GF for my wife to start a business at home!! Is this machine more for hobby-like activity or can you make a business out of it? Also was leaning toward the Pro b/c I may want to go "all in" if I am going to make this investment, worth it? Lastly (sorry), air filter worth it?
I have made a business around it so yes its a hobby machine but its also a workhorse. If you have access to a window, the airfilter is not necessary. I would recommend checking out our second glowforge video about making it quiet. That's what we just did and its a life changer. Because the glowforge is super loud. I have many glowforge friends that made a business from their glowforge so if you want to do it, I believe in you! Like I said in the video. I don't personally see a pro as necessary. I do everything with a basic. A pro is 20% faster it has the pass-through and there is a longer Warranty but really everything can be done with the basic! Hope that helps!
We have a 12 month baby. How bad are the fumes? Can you just open the window behind the machine and toss the vent tube out during prints, or do I need to modify the window the attach the vent to something?
We have it pointed right out the window. There is a light sent of wood but I sit RIGHT next to it when its cutting. Its nothing I would be concerned having a kit around. With the addition of the air assist vent from our other video, the glowforge can be clean, quiet and fairly odorless
Love the quick response! Do I have to make the window insert or is there just something I can buy for now to just get me started. I’m talking about the piece of wood with the hole that holds the window open. :)
Ours is literally a wood board with a hole in it lol we have a blast gate to block the wind coming in and an elbow on the outside to help avoid birds loving in it lol but yea....its just a board
Eh can't really mention a K40 when talking about a Glowforge as you can quite literally buy 7 K40 machines for the price of the cheapest Glowforge. It's better to compare similarly priced machines and for the price of a Glowforge you can get way more value for money than you would get from the Glowforge for the same price. You might end up with a steeper learning curve at the start but in the long run I think pretty much everybody would prefer the other machines over the Glowforge.
Pros? It sucks! My 4th lemon is arriving tomorrow. I bought an Orion for 2k and it’s way better than this slowforge. Takes 1.50hr to do a 10.9 portrait lol Nothing but issues. Check the BBB AND SEE their forums. We all got ripped off

Then, he said that, to try and bypass the noise, he would throw a couple of folded blankets over the left side/exhaust fan to cover the noise (he said it worked, but didn't demo how much it worked). Noise is one factor for me.
Also, thank you for mentioning how thick cutting material should be. I have been wanting to order a 3D acrylic printer along with a Glowforge Basic, because I want to revive my acrylic hobby again, preferavly w/o having to make molds.
ua-cam.com/video/I_YOYIt4byM/v-deo.html in this video we go over how to make it quieter!
Just ordered my Basic with your code. Great videos, hope to see more. Thanks!
Thank you!!! And you will :)
Thank you so much for this! I really am wanting one and will use your referral code when I do!
Well thanks!! I'm glad you liked it and I hope it helped!
Will they ever get a rotary attachment? I enjoy being able to engrave glasses, tumblers or mugs.
I’ve seen on an FSL Muse, they have a riser and rotary attachment for their engravers.
Loved the review! So proud of you and Thure! Some great points to think about if(ok, when) I get a laser cutter. 🖤
hahahhahhaa thank you :)
4:55 Literally as you were saying this an ad for Glowforge came up, calling it a 3D laser printer. And clearly marketing to scrapbook type people.
Well they are clearly picking my video to advertise on......and pointing out my favorite parts of they ad campaign hahahaha
I got one for a wood pecker laser. So much laughing. Terrible marketing...
Thank you so much! I just received my glow forge. Can’t wait to start creating. Thanks for sharing your supply list. New subscriber ❤️
Awesome! Thank you! i cant wait to see what you make!
Great information! Thank you so much for sharing, being honest and sharing all the cool links!
No worries!!! I want people to know what to expect instead of going it blind
The price is way too high for me. I'm currently getting an Ortur Laser Master 2 20watt next week, which may not be quite as fancy but the price is way lower. And it does work just with software (GRBL or Lightburn).
Glowforge is not for everyone, thats for sure. All i wanted to do was explain why it was right for us.
you had me at milwaukee (la crosse girl here) but you hooked me with the cat.
I’m confused about the cutting/printing. I’m looking to engrave metal. Can it do that?
I would say it depends on the metals. I would look up on the glowforge community forum what you are looking to engrave on and see what settings others have used. No matter what though, you cannot cut it.
Did you end up purchasing the air filter add on? If not do you have a video where you show how you vented it?
This is literally my dream machine, but it is so far out of my price range it's sad, but i'm going to continue watching other people use them because it's so fascinating!
We did not buy the air filter. If you have a window nearby it is not a needed add on what so ever.
You mentioned water bottles, Im looking to purchase and use this laser cutter for my family Hydro Flask water bottles, will this not cut water bottles?
the glowforge has a MAX depth of 2 inches. A hydro flask will not fit unfortunately.
Thanks for the info! Very informative
Glad it was helpful!
Just wanted to say thank you for this video it’s the one that made me go forward to buy one I used your code hope it helps you in creating more stuff
Thank you so much! It helps way more than you could ever imagine so thank you!!
When Geeks Craft More than happy to if you’re awesome!
Very informative
Glad it was helpful!
Are you able to engrave metals of the thickness of a flask? I'd like to personalize some gifts for the holidays.
As long as it is anodized with some sort of coating and under a two inch thickness, yes
Can I make rubber stamps with this machine? and how big? Ex: 6"x6" max size. Appreciate your help.
18"x12" and yes
@@WhenGeeksCraft Thank you so much, that is way bigger than I would ever use. Great news!
Thanks for a great video. I’m considering one now, and have been watching plenty of videos on this, yours was easily one of the best! One thing I missed and haven’t heard before. What’s the masking take for on surfaces like plywood and acrylic? Thanks!
masking just keeps the surfaces clean from burn marks. its not REALLY NECESSARY but it saves some hassle :) if you look up masking for laser cutting, you will see a tonnnn of resources that will help you decide if you want to use it or not
which model that can cut good with acrylic/plexiglass 3/16" or 1/4" thick materials
I have cut up to 1/4in on my basic. All machines are able to do so.
I thought you were going to share why the pass through on the pro wasn't necessary. did I miss something
Great review!!
Thank you!
Thank you so much! This makes me comfortable enough to make the leap on my glowforge purchase. Thanks!
@@charliebrown1591 that's awesome!! Please let us know if you have any questions!!
@@WhenGeeksCraft Thanks!
Hi..great review. How about the volume/noise level? I've heard GF are REALLY loud?!?
Thanks.
i have another video about how loud it is lol and how i make it quieter
The camera alignment and internet connectivity are huge deal-breakers for me. I'm glad I know about this now. Hopefully they fix this in the future.
I totally understand. For me, it's really not the end of the world because it's a great machine but for others that don't have access to fast internet or can't get over the camera quirks, I can see how that can be an issue.
hi, great video thanks i will follow your projects for sure. Can i ask if your electricity bill cost much more as a result of the printer??
No significant increase. Puts out the same amount of power as a computer
Thinking about buying one. How big is the cutting tray? You mentioned you wished it was bigger, that was my issue buying a cnc machine because the workspace is so small.
12*20 inches. You can fit pieces that are deeper than 12 inches big the working area is 12*20.
Hi I want to get one but I’m so scared I’m not going to know how to use it!!please help
Dont be scared. I didnt know what i was doing when i bought it at all. you will learn fast!
@@WhenGeeksCraft thanks alot
Hello from "up north" in EC, WI. Thanks for this, I was looking for a video like this from someone who has the basic (the one I'm considering getting)!
Ohhh hey!!! Greetings from the south lol Milwaukee. We love our basic and I would probs get another one if I needed to because they are good machines
@@WhenGeeksCraft Awesome, thank you! I'll use your code when I buy and join the Discord, thanks!
Well thats very kind and we would love to have you in there!
so after a year- if you had to choose again from the 3 models, would you have purchased the basic again or the plus? Thanks in advanced . I am looking into purchasing one, and will be using your link
i would still buy a basic. if for some reason mine died tomorrow, i would get another basic.
I am considering either the Glowforge Plus or a Laserbox Pro, do
You have any thoughts or opinions?
We only have experience with the glowforge so we can only really recommend them at this point. Doesn't mean that's the correct answer
Thanks for the great video it was the last one that I saw that sealed the deal for me.I just ordered a GF Basic using your code so enjoy the referral fee... :-)
That's so kind! Thank you! that really means a ton to us and helps so much! If you ever need help, let us know!
Can you use light burn software with this machine?
You are locked down to their software
You said you have had it for a year. How long did it take to pay for itself in the products you sell? Also, what are your electric bills like?
i didnt start selling anything from my glowforge until about 7 months into owning it. I started an etsy store in October of 2019. After 3 months of selling, I paid off the GF basic. That includes some referrals i received from Glowforge in 2019
Do you think the camera on the pro would be easier to operate ?
I honestly dont know. I have been told it's better than it was before but we don't have a pro so I cannot say forsure
I work in a gun shop, would this engraver work for gun parts. Such as receivers, stocks, or pistol frames?
it really all depends. Some posts on the community say no - community.glowforge.com/t/is-it-possible-to-engrave-guns/42662/3 but some say yes! community.glowforge.com/t/engraving-ar-mag/17159 I think it really depends on thickness and materials you are using
How does Glowforge compared to Dremel LC40 or Muse 3D or MakeBlock Laserbox?
I honestly cannot comment on that too much because I have only used these glowforge out of the ones you listed off. Hopefully someone else in the comments can help out!
Hi, Have you ever had issues with the cables running from the lid, I hear it can cause the constant homing / scanning issues? Thank You
I have had my machine for almost two years and I just replaced the cable like two months ago. It does wear eventually but it was a 10 dollar replacement part so I bought three for if it fails again
I hope it’s okay to ask, do you use your iPad to run the glowforge? I’m trying to find an app that is glowforge friendly. I’m so new at this I squeak. Thank you
Its actually all run through a web browser. You can in fact run the glowforge from an ipad because of that. I personallynever have but you can
@@WhenGeeksCraftthank you
Great video, I liked and subscribed.... knowing what you know now do you wish you would've purchased the pro?
Nope! If I need to get another one I would still get a basic. But that's my personal preference
When Geeks Craft heck yeah, I’ll check it out! Thank you! 😊
Have you ever dropped by Glowforges live streams to ask them about the cons you pointed out?
I cannot say that I have. I have talked to many other users though for their input on the cons here.
Question: Have you cut 1/2 wood with your basic? if so what kind of wood was it and any possible settings?
None of the machines will cut 1/2inch. I have cut 1/4 inch red oak on mine though.
How dirty are the fans in the machine after a year?
Quite. I clean them every three ish month honestly
I have been thinking about a glow forge to up my resin game, but Im not savvy with design. What kind of programs do you use?
I use my iPad, inkscape and gimp exclusively
How do you sell your completed items
I don't really any more. I only do maybe two commissions a year
Hello, I am interested in buying this machine but I don't know which one to buy, this is for my small business, what advice would you give me
Start with the basic. We do EVERYTHING with a glowforge basic and it's amazing. There is really no need for the others
Can you engrave cutting boards
Yup!!
All of you reference having 3D printers first...is it user friendly for someone with little/no computer experience?
When Geeks Craft I’m about to purchase and I’m uncertain if the air filter is a must? Can you shed some light on that?
I don't have one. I have it vent out the window. Check out our other glowforge video if you want to see how we have it venting!
When Geeks Craft thank you 🤗
You're welcome!

Thanks for the video, I wanted to ask is it accurate enough for small interlocking parts?
Omg yes lol it can make insanely accurate and tiny things
Will the glowforge work with 10mb down, 1 up internet?
I would recommend reaching out to glowforge support with that question. We have a gig of internet at our house so I cannot tell you for sure what your experience would be. Support@glowforge.com is where I would start
@@WhenGeeksCraft thanks for your reply. I wouldn't expect them to tell me anything negative, but I'll reach out.
They are usually pretty honest in their support from my experience. For another option, Facebook has the glowforge users group. That is fulllllll of honest people that will really tell you what's up!
@@WhenGeeksCraft OK :) thank you.
Does it work on metal
Anodized aluminum but not bare metal
We just got ours what programs you use?
Inkscape, gimp, and sketchbook for my ipad
Thanks for pointing out the cons, your #2 con happens to be the absolute deal breaker for me.
Its one of my least favorite things about the glowforge but I really haven't run into any problems yet because I always have internet 😅 its just slow I'm comparison to a desktop application
I am thinking of purchasing a Glowforge but not sure which one to buy. Plus or pro? Thoughts?
Basic
I’m seriously thinking of purchasing a Glowforge but I’m having trouble deciding on which one one to buy? Which one would you recommend? This will be used for crafts signs and other crafting projects? Thank for any help you can give me
I will always recommend the basic. It's what I have
When Geeks Craft do you think the plus is better? I only ask because I don’t want to but one and then the plus gets better . Like cricket machines
Thank you for your help and advice
Honestly look at everything I can make on my channel. I can make insane things with just a basic. If I were to buy another one tomorrow, I would get another basic
When Geeks Craft thank you so much for your help I really appreciate it and I will take your advice and get the basic one
@@tracyberg5118 no worries! I just know its a very powerful machine and can do really anything you throw at it!
Will it engrave Veg Tan leather
When Geeks Craft thanks for the feedback!! How much was that modification?
The fan only cost like 80 bucks on amazon. And let me tell you, it was worth every penny TerraBloom ECMF-100, 4" Inline Duct Fan - amzn.to/2z1GjDl
IS THIS THE RIGHT MACHINE FOR ME?
Hahahahhahaa yes.
When Geeks Craft oh ok lol. Thanks!
You are welcome!
How much is the basic
I believe it's 2995. Their website will say for sure
@@WhenGeeksCraft thanks for the reply even though it's been a year since you originally posted appreciate it.
Gotta love notifications ☺️
Eh can't really mention a K40 when talking about a Glowforge as you can quite literally buy 7 K40 machines for the price of the cheapest Glowforge. It's better to compare similarly priced machines and for the price of a Glowforge you can get way more value for money than you would get from the Glowforge for the same price.
You might end up with a steeper learning curve at the start but in the long run I think pretty much everybody would prefer the other machines over the Glowforge.
It’s not a cricut it cannot and should not be used to cut vinyl.
absolutely! Vinyl + laser = bad times. We have used it to cut paper but never vinyl. We have our actual cricut for that
Pros? It sucks! My 4th lemon is arriving tomorrow. I bought an Orion for 2k and it’s way better than this slowforge.
Takes 1.50hr to do a 10.9 portrait lol Nothing but issues. Check the BBB AND SEE their forums. We all got ripped off
well i am def sorry you had a bad experience. My experience has still been amazing. no machine issues what so ever.
i was good till you said that it requires internet connection. i loath companies that do this. dealbreaker
its annoying but we have solid internet so its not the end of the world for us. I get the problem with it though
