    I grew up in the Seventh-Day Adventist denomination- Attending church on Saturday, attending private Adventist schools from K-12, and even the hospital system in the south- AdventHealth is run by the SDA church. My mother's side of the family is Adventist and she raised my brother and I as such.
    I really want to stress that there is a WIDE spectrum of SDA followers. When you are immersed in the denomination as I was, you will see both- hardcore, "Ellen White believing, no alcohol, vegitarian/vegan, you must observe the Sabbath by doing absolutely nothing and attend church or it is a sin" type SDAs. But those individuals have become quite far and few in between. Most will look upon those individuals as "old fashioned".
    Most realistic Adventists will tell you that the lifestyle choices (abstaining from alcohol/(unclean) meat) are exactly that- lifestyle choices. The health and wellness ideas in Adventist communities can also be attributed to the association with the AdventHealth medical system and Loma Linda University in California
    Ellen White was one of the founders- yes. But many of her writings and opinions get the side-eye from a lot of Adventists these days. She is not as heavily emphasized as she might once have been.
    In Adventist private schools from K-12, the majority of other students around me ate meat (usually "clean" meats- but I digress.) In religion classes, we learned about Ellen White as our founder who was inspired by God, but she usually wasn't all that emphasized here either. Most of the time emphasis was placed on teachings of the bible. We did routinely learn about the history behind how the Sababth was changed from Saturday to Sunday and we covered a lot of church history. But the majority of the things we were taught and learned about align with what many other Christian denominations believe today.
    I personally had no issues walking into a Baptist or NonDenominational church in my adult life and adapting nicely. There are a few of my beliefs from being SDA that I hold onto, but most things are irrelevant compared to the "core" things Christian denominations believe in. I was always appalled at SDA's being compared to the JW organization when really they are nothing alike!
    Thank you for making these comparison videos to shed light on the details.

    • @BiblicalTeachings
      @BiblicalTeachings 3 години тому +1

      my big issue with SDA is the Sabbath day worship only. Where I studied with SDA, they were hardcore, you worship the beast and go to hell if you attend church on Sunday. I've gone to several seminaries since then and read the bible from cover to cover for Nth number of times, and no where does it say what they claim. Paul says that keeping the law does NOT save. To me, keeping the Sabbath is the same is keeping the law. Second is that Jesus re-enforced all the laws except for the Sabbath. Third, is that no where does it say by Paul or anyone else that going to church on Sunday (or any other day) was a sin. What is your perspective of that? why do they teach that? I have noticed that White is not seen as she had been in the past. I learned that her writings were above the bible. SDA does teach truth, but it's the false prophecies, and the false teachings (Sabbath worship, hell not eternal) that turned me off to SDA. Not sure if they still believe that way.
      (just to note: I have no issue with SDA people or anyone else. I have JW friends, Islam friends, atheist friends. It's the beliefs itself that I question to why they teach in relation to what the bible states.)

    • @9447mma
      @9447mma 2 години тому +2

      @@BiblicalTeachings Yes, the Saturday worship is one of the big things they do focus on quite a bit as it is one of the things Adventists are most known for. Often Adventist feel the need to defend Saturday worship because of their contrasting view from most Christian denominations. In our studies in school, I remember diving in quite deep into the why and how the Sabbath was changed from Saturday to Sunday throughout church history. Adventists view keeping the Sabbath as one of the 10 commandments which is still highly regarded and followed by most Christians today. If you asked an Adventist- that would probably be one of the first things they'd tell you hence why many consider it a sin.
      As for Sunday worship being considered "mark of the beast" it seems to be a difference of opinion regardless of what the church may/may not teach.
      So while Sabbath keeping is emphasized quite a bit, at it's very core, Adventists do teach that it is ONLY the belief and acceptance of Jesus Christ as the way to salvation.

Almost every time i tuned in either a vegetarian cooking show or some prophesy conference was playing. There were at least 4 different guys who preached the separate prophesy conferences. I remember one of them asking what if Jesus gets it wrong during the particular judgment, that a person could be sent to hell when they should have gone to heaven. "Sorry Joe!" I think that the guy was arguing against the idea of a particular judgment and in favor of the general judgment. That seems like a faulty view of Jesus Christ. If Jesus is both God and human, how could his judgment of a person's soul be inaccurate?

      And another thing I did was get some SDA literature in the mail from 3ABN TV shows. The longest chapter by far in one of the books I got taught the idea that there's a temple in heaven just like Solomon's temple in the Old Testament. They taught that in 1844 Jesus went into the holy of holies in the heavenly temple to atone for the sins of the world. I'm pretty sure it taught the typology of the whole Old Testament Jewish animal sacrifice system as being symbolic of Jesus. I think that was the SDA way of explaining why their 1844 return of Christ prophesy failed.
      I ended up donating the SDA literature to a local St Vincent de Paul charity in the late 1990s. I kind of wish I could find the name of the SDA org that wrote and distributed it, though. Also the name of the guy I mentioned in the previous comment.

    I'll attend a Seventh-day Adventist Service before a Jehovah's Witnesses Service. Not fond of Ellen White veneration and she received her original ideas from another - a male. I found only NKJV in SDA. Sunday Worship was instituted by the Roman Church. Also, the removal the Jewish Traditional Observances - starting with the Passover and the Lunar Calander. I personally like SDA, even though they focus on Vegetarianism & Saturday Sabbath. Always enjoy Ready to Harvest. God Bless. Thank you.

St. Justin Martyr's Dialogue with Trypho 11; 18. St. Irenaeus Against Heresies 4:13. Tertullian Against Marcion 4:1. Origen's Homily 12 on Genesis.

      @astutik8909 difference of opinion... your answer seems to be steeped with a sense of relativism that is common in Western culture.
      If the sky is blue and we affirm it, someone later comes along and say the sky is green and he claims we said it some odd years ago, that by definition isn't an opinion but a claim to a historic truth. And we can examine whether that is so.
      If, for example, the Bible teaches Jesus is God, the writings of the early church also affirms this and someone denies it, then it's their word vs what is in scripture.
      It's more than an opinion. And we can find out more about it. We are talking a out core essentials of the faith.
      And I wouldn't disagree with you on the RCC lol

      Unfortulanely you most probably won't get a video on non-Trinitarian SDAs for one simple reason: they have not produced truly rivaling churches, and are simply disorganized on the outskirts of the SDA Church itself. You have only independent ministries and local offshoot churches. The only church worthy of mentioning at all would be the Creation Seventh-day Adventist Church, which is non-Trinitarian, "sacred name" and keeping Jewish feasts and new moons, and operates in North America, Australia, and some countries in Africa.
