You have a beautiful HEART. I hope the people in your circle SEE it.
Love your channel, you help homeowners to save money and educate them. Thank you
I've used clear bubblewrap on windows before LOL! 🤪
and in contrast, I've used foil in the summer on west-facing windows
but, yes, insulate, INSULATE, iNSuLaTe!!!!! (where reasonable)
Yes I go get free bubble wrap from the dumpster behind the furniture store and then you just Spritz it with water and it automatically adheres to the window and it is awesome and quick no tape
The best vapour barrier is a good interior caulking and paint job (to keep moisture out of your insulation)
Great video. Thank you, for producing and posting.
We purchased a home 2 years ago in Western Pa. It was built roughly as you said as yours. I am currently renovating half of the structure as we live in the other. No insulation other than layer in the attic. The side I'm renovating is unheated currently and stays almost as warm as the side that's heated now that it's insulated.
Those outlet insulators are another thing many don't know about. Good one! Or stuff insulation around the covers.
As always, great advice again!!
I have the same dilemma. I saw a lot of people saying you don't want to fill the wall cavities too much with older homes because air needs to be able to move through the walls in order to evaporate any trapped moisture. I guess as long as your insulation allows for that you should be ok.
Great video Dave! I’ll look into it.
Gracias 🙏 for sharing your pro tips and I will consider that plastic over the window cause we don’t have new windows in our home my wife put special curtains but I would like to see some day light 😊…anyway thanks for sharing your knowledge and I will keep supporting your channel…Saludos from Texas 👋😃👋
I appreciate your tips
Thanks for sharing this
Love videos like this.
THANK YOU BROTHER 😊
awesome tips dude. I often see people making very bad investments on energy improvements. They will spend thousands on windows to save a little on a bills.
Tight cellular window treatments look good and have an R value of 3-5 depending on cells. Insulating attic as mentioned is the best bang for buck, most utilities pay for part of it.
Good suggestions.
TIC at work. Nice way to see where the air leaks are. But, $$$$$. Down to $200 now. Good way to check electrical connections too.
Enjoying the video. I have an attic Air handler and in the winter the
Ceiling vents are closed. I get cold air drafts from some of them. Any tips to stop this? I also install a rigid foam board in the return grill etc. thanks
Use paintable clear caulk
Thank you
Great "show me” video.👍
link to thermal imaging camera would be great just wondering if it’s a less expensive one than flir, thanks!
I had an old house, and when I would wake up in the morning, my nose would be frozen, I sprayed closed Cell spray foam on the underside of my roof and completely sealed off the attic with spray foam and the difference was night and day and I don’t sell spray foam just a fan
I have an 1880 stucco side uninsulated home. Are you saying spraying the attic roof underside?
@@michaelglenning5107 yes, it works great in the summer also
The underside of the roof is considered a cold space. You are supposed to put attic insulation on the floor of the attic (which assumes the attic is not a living space). The reason for keeping the roof cold (with air circulation) is to prevent ice dams. Icicles are a sign of ice dams.
have you tried putting the film on the outside too? and or a 2nd layer on the inside around the trim?
My 1996 Rgph Rheem still runs fine, but I want to restore it.
Guessing the heat exchanger first, then blower motor?
Or maybe if it ain’t broke don’t fix it?
get the nylan strap ones more better easy to put on for next winter and get thicker plactic
Can you recommend an affordable quality IR camera for homeowners?
SAVE 100% on heating. Move to south florida for the winter months. 😁
lol
You might be better off making interior storm windows for those back porch windows.
What if the plastic was also applied outside?
How do you stop heat escaping through bathroom and kitchen fan vents when not in use?
Exhaust vents have a flap that closes when the fan is not in use
Should I cover the weep holes with the plastic film?
Can't imagine demolishing a home that was spray foam insulated!
How I messed up my new windows with cheap tape residue around
Can you put the plastic on the outside of the window? My cats will kill that thin film in seconds
I’m sure you could!
How do you clean that though...
It's just to be used seasonally.
Yea it can be removed in the spring. It’s primarily for the winter month.
Do you like those key-less door locks?
Love them!
Where do you get 50% when according to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, "Modest weatherization measures like air sealing and increasing the quality and thickness of attic insulation can reliably reduce energy usage by 12% to 18%"?
Air sealing, plus insulation in attic AND walls will be much higher. I did a lot of research and several places said upwards of 50%
@@diyhvacguy Upwards is not the same as "You can save 50%". There a lot of marketing hype out there that does not reflect real world numbers.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), homeowners can save an average of 15% on heating and cooling costs (or an average of 11% on total energy costs) by air sealing their homes and adding insulation in attics, floors over crawl spaces, and accessible basement rim joists. This estimate is based on energy modeling of cost-effective improvements made to ‘typical’ existing U.S. homes with a weighted composite of characteristics. The modeled results are corroborated by the field experience of professional building science contractors who have done air sealing and insulation work for more than 20 years.

Even if you have doubled pane windows, the garbage contractors that install windows nowadays is pathetic, leaving wobbly installed and uninsulated negates the double pane heat loss lol
I found caulk at Dollar Tree for $1.25 just as good as Dap for filling spaces.
