Pepper has such variety, from She's leaving home kitchen sink drama, to junkshop Victoriana of Mr Kite and George's mystical Within you. I guess lovely Rita and 64 don't stand up now
Within You...Without You.......fantastic composition!! Surprisingly, the Sgt Pepper Lp (songs and art packaging) turned into THE major force in the evolving culture of that historical era!!
We were talking about the space between us all And the people who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion Never glimpse the truth Then it's far too late When they pass away We were talking about the love we all could share When we find it, to try our best to hold it there with our love With our love, we could save the world, if they only knew Try to realise it's all within yourself No one else can make you change And to see you're really only very small And life flows on within you and without you We were talking about the love that's gone so cold And the people who gain the world and lose their soul They don't know They can't see Are you one of them? When you've seen beyond yourself then you may find Peace of mind is waiting there And the time will come when you see we're all one And life flows on within you and without you
Always my favorite song on the album. They should’ve given him two songs every album at least . I think it was just greed. Read their publishing arrangement
George was intellectually interested in Indian philosophy, but he certainly didn't live it. I think Within you and without you doesn't really fit with the concept of S.Pepper, S.P. is about this fictional band, then suddenly there's this Indian music , it sticks out like a sore thumb. I used to like it at first, then I always skipped over it, because it was too long and I wasn't that keen on it. Now I do wonder if they should have left it out? Instead, they could have put in Baby Your Rich Man and All You Need Is Love, that would have been a fantastic album!
To me that’s part of why it fits so well. Theres an almost circus variety show to me about Sgt Pepper and to me this is where some exotic magician comes and hypnotizes the audience. Maybe I just hear it that way coming out of Mr Kite. You get this very deep thoughtful mystical spell that is than broken by laughter and the lightness of when I’m 64.
@@reddwood4971 if you put it that way, it's convincing and makes sense, sort of? Wouldn't that fit better on Magical Mystery Tour? I still say it doesn't fit well on SPepper. Baby Your a rich man, and All You Need Is Love would have been better and a fantastic album.
George and Ringo didn't care for Pepper as they both felt like they were being treated like session musicians. Interestingly, John wasn't a fan of the record, either, as he felt rushed throughout the production and he didn't like most of Paul's songs. So this supposedly culturally shattering record may have been relying on the cover and a few tunes which actually *did* break the glass ceiling of rock culture..."Within You Without You" is certainly one.
George helped popularise World Music and Cultures, in this case highlighting Indian instruments like the sitar. Not only that, he raised the bar on spiritual conscience themes, philosophical enlightenment and the meaning of life. A timeless recording.
Paul said this was like all on the Chord of C like "Tomorrow Never Knows" same with "Within You Without You". Poor Paul he must have worried how George Martin was going to take it because on other songs they had 3 chords and maybe a change for the middle-eight.
I can remember really enjoying this song when I was seven and I started getting into the Beatles catalog without the influence of my parents I didn't appreciate what a tour de force record *Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band* was at that age, but I came to over time. "Within You Without You" played no small part in that appreciation for me. Add to it, George wrote it 1967, and we in the human race haven’t caught up to it nearly 60 years later. If George was still alive today and you asked him, he would probably say that there's more urgency to his lyrics now than there was then. The only thing I don't like about this song has nothing to do with the song itself. It's that George only wound up composing two released songs across 1967, the other one being "Blue Jay Way".
George's "Yesterday" . Those musicians should have been paid! To this day i am not fond of the album "All Things Must Pass". I don’t like paying to be preached to.
The laugh is genius. It's literal meta. He put it in after the fact lol knowing that the 'naivete' of the lyric would be lampooned. R.I.P The quiet one.
George wasn't "given" 1 spot, per se, it's that the quality of his output at this time wasn't necessarily up to snuff (according to the band/George Martin, I love this period, personally). It wasn't like they predetermined that George would only get 1, though. I love George, but sometimes the anti-George by way of Paul/John rhetoric is IMO blown out of proportion. They were some of his biggest supporters, as shown when John helps him work out the lyrics to Something or how many contributions Paul made to George's songs to elevate them. Sorry for the rant, I'm a Beatles fanatic :)
“Within You Without You is one of the Greatest tunes ever Alot people don't get it specially these cute hoor politicians all their know is hate , greed & power over others. Hatred will only lead to destroy oneself .Love is the light and the way the Cosmic forces give live energy .to oneself. My favorite out of the 4 Beatles & solo 1. George Harrison 2. John Lennon 3. Ringo 4. Paul McCartney
We're all the same, everything is connected, love is transcendent, life is eternal with or without us and if everyone realised this there would be more empathy in the world - Another Scouser lol
By far the worst song on the album, almost ruining it. It was first on side two of the LP (kids…), so you could just skip over it easily to get to When I’m 64& the rest of the magnificent record. All revisionist history aside, the “reluctant Beatle” never measured up to the genius of Lennon&McCartney in terms of material. He was one hell of great guitarist/accompaniest though. Truly underrated in that regard.
False. He always has the best songs on every record. Only allowed 2 tracks per record wasn't much and everyone talks about underrated. Smh. However, this song is the proof. Not only is it in a non Beatles style, but it proves his worth as one of the most talented musicians of the 20th century
Dude part of what made the Beatles so enjoyable to many is everyone has their favs and a different take on things. It’s fine to have an opinion but it’s not gospel. Personally I think George’s songs were almost always on par if not exceeding P&J. His first song on a record “Don’t Bother Me” is waaaay better than Love Me Do and is one of the highlights of WTB. From rubber soul onward his songs were consistently some of the best and don’t get me started on Abbey Road. For me the only record he comes up a bit short is “Help” but thats one of the lower tier Beatles albums for me anyway
Plus +Strawberry Fields, +Penny Lane, +Baby You're A Rich Man & +It's All Too Much. Cut off -Sixty Four, -She's Leaving Home, -Lovely Rita & -Fixing A Hole

a shame a littile effort has not been put into finding and crediting the musicians who actually made the music on the track.

It’s a good recording, I always thought George was underrated, and I like all his stuff just brilliant ❤.

Great video! Love the audio clips from John, his “boo hoo hoo” cracked me up. Could you do a video on how “Tomorrow Never Knows” was made?
Yes! I too would love to know about "Tomorrow Never Knows"!

What a fantastic video have a wonderful day ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
An awesome vibe, a superb production and wise words.

The lyrics read like a letter to Lennon/ McCartney to me.
I love his song "Love You Too" also!
I ❤ all things
George
It must have been strange to hear it for the first time when it came out in 1967. It's quite hypnotic.
quite possibly my favorite Beatles song!
Definitely my favorite as well ❤
Yery good Video, with Informationen about George. Such wonderful pics, and hearing the real Voices 🥰
Thank you from Germany, Beatles Fan Elli ✌❤

Very good video.
All the best from Sweden 🇸🇪
Thanks!
Great video - and after George’slast comments, the next track for me in the same ilk is ‘Across the Universe’ by John.
I can relate to all of this George!
Rhythmically brilliant...
Great story 👍
Within you without you, Here comes the sun is about you.
Great video - brilliant song. One correction however - the author’s name is Christmas Humphrey - wrong spelling. But the video was fab.
Humphreys
Nice Job!
Such a great/beautiful man. Lost too soon 🎸
'Sgt. Pepper's' was out of the box. 'Within You, Without You' was out of the Sgt. Pepper's box'...
Got it?
"I'm Only sleeping" from "Revolver" matches well with the philosophy of " Within You , Without You", so I'm surprised John wasn't more of a fan.

Preachy, repetitive song. George’s worst song besides Piggies.

I do love GJR & then P, long distance 4th. John and Ringo get 2nd by a nose...so to speak
I'm sure I was subbed to you. Corrected. Least a Scouser can do. Great vid.
Great video!!! 🙏🏽👍🏽☺️

I always love Georges Indian influence
I loved this song !
Better than the weeping guitar.
1:35 kinks ?!?!? waterloo sunset seriously ??
Yes. 🗿
In studio, George recorded the entire song, all the tracks, in the nude.
Best tune on this album😎👍👍
I used to not like it as a kid, but it grew on me over the years.
It’s always been my favorite too. ❤️
@@BeatlesBible1 It's no "A Day In The Life" but it is good. :)
Disagree. 😳
well..one mans beef,,,is another mans pork...better than A day in the life !?!?..youre outta your fuckin mind

so you don’t get it and just follow the crowd so you don’t have to think, got it…
When I'm 64 is the poorest song on that record by a distance in my opinion.
Best tune on there for me it fit in so well with the rest of album haters gonna hate

They should have left this off the album and included Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane
I would've cut "Lovely Rita" and "Good Morning, Good Morning."
@@BeatlesBible1 maybe good morning...but not lovely rita
Maybe She's leaving home would have been a good cut
