  • Here are some Waller's solos transcribed from QRS Piano Rolls original cut in 1923,1924,1926,1927 and downloaded from ''Red Hot Jazz Archive'':
    00:12 - '' I'm Coming Virginia'' (Will Marion Cook- D. Hayward) -

04:03 - ''Nobody But My Baby'' (Andy Razaf-Clarence Williams) -
Thomas Fats Waller piano roll - N.Y. Aug. 1927 - QRS
    3997
07:39 - ''Squeeze Me'' (Clarence William- Fats Waller) - Thomas
    Fats Waller piano roll - N.Y. Febr. 1926 - QRS 3352
    11:13 - ''Mama's Got The Blues'' (Sara Martin-Clarence Williams) -

19:54 - ''Got To Cool My Doggies Now'' (Bob Thompson-Spencer
Williams)-Thomas Fats Waller piano roll -

23:35 - ''Last Go Round Blues'' (Jimmy Cox) - Thomas Fats Waller
    piano roll - N.Y. Sept. 1923 - QRS 2363
    27:26 - ''Clearing House Blues'' (S. Honesty-H. Webb) - Thomas
    Fats Waller piano roll - N.Y. July 1924 - QRS 2661.
In this video I have not included the famous Waller's song '' Ain't Misbehavin' '' which is instead present in the list of Waller's piano rolls of ''Red Hot Jazz Archive'' as piano roll QRS 7883
( www.redhotjazz.... ) , because according to the Rollography this roll was published in September 1943 and marked ''played by J. Lawrence Cook '' and not in 1929
    ( • ''Ain't Misbehavin' ''... ).
In 1929 other 2 piano rolls of this song was published (QRS 4767 and IMPERIAL 07381), but in the WEB I didn't find them (for more see: www.pianola.com... ).
As J. Lawrence Cook states in a letter on the subject (reported at the aforementioned link), ''all rolls labeled as played by "Fats" Waller, were actually recorded by me", as '' Waller gave QRS permission to let me make them '' , while ''the only authentic Waller player roll recordings are those labeled as ''Thomas Waller'' ''. Anyway, listening very carefully to the aforecited QRS 7883 roll, I believe that the performer is not Thomas Waller, the left hand is not from Fats,.

Since most of these piano rolls seem hand-played and not "doctored", they are a precious document of how a very young Fats Waller played in the early and mid-1920s. Impressive! thanks for sharing!
