    It is good to see officials having some humour in official meetings. The Asian Science officer was great while laughing at jokes and eating his snacks. Some people go to work meetings for the coffee/tea and snacks and barely listen to the presentation. 😂

    I appreciate the Gilligan's Island reference. Kovich is exactly the kind of guy who I would expect to have looked into that kind of historical stuff. Everyone else didn't get the joke because Gilligan's Island is 1200 years old. It would be like a historian in our time telling a joke he found in a manuscript from the 9th century that relied on historical context to be funny. Brilliant.

    As much hate that appears to be in the comments we are getting some good stuff here, they are sitting down together and working out the problem like we would see in the ready room or engineering (or where-ever) in TNG and classic trek. I haven't watched this season but all the clips I watch seem to show a far more interesting Discovery season. Still with its problems though, I'm sure.

      It's progress...
      Now if they could stop cutting with close up reaction shots every 4-6 seconds when there is nothing to react too...
      Heck, I'll take a wide shot, an over the shoulder... And while a moving camera isn't Michael Bay levels of bad, it's wasted in this sequence. It's a meeting. They don't need to inject movement when it's a low stakes meeting with no dramatic tension between the people in the meeting.
      Whoever created the camera work bible of STD needs a tranquillizer and a lie down to regain perspective about when and how it's appropriate to move the camera. Just because they have the the rigs, doesn't mean they can't be locked down for a still shot.

Even the top of his tie, where the knot should be, is some other material. Suits like his have been here for centuries in one form or another, I do not expect they are going away any time soon. The cuts of the fabric, design of the lapels, everything down to the way the it is held together... just like the uniforms, I see no visible stitching. For an out of uniform Starfleet official, it makes sense he would wear something aside from one of Jake Sisko's colorful tunics. I kind of assume he has latitude like Troi to wear civilian garb, as he seems to be some kind of psychologist. He is probably some kind of psyops guy, as we have also seen him counsel Dr. Culber, but most of what he does seems to be interrogations, debriefings, and is seen here discussing the potential issues with communicating with aliens who think very differently from us. Oh, and he openly admits to wearing glasses, even though he doesn't need them, because he likes how they look.

Not to mention, they said the 10-C may be able to fly in the gaseous layers of their planet which is a gas giant considering their very light anatomy despite being big species in episode 11. Yeah because the TOS episode where Kirk recites the Declaration of Independence to an alien species and stands for the American flag was "space culture."
      Or where Picard read old classic English and French literature, acting out Shakespeare with Data
      Or where Sisko made the entire DS9 crew get obsessed about baseball
      Yeah, Star Trek has *always* been about the Future Culture

      @@damienjeremytrotman94 I don't see how referencing old literature *isn't* being proud or otherwise problematic. it happens in old trek all the time, but I guess the main difference here is that this show is called Discovery and not TNG.

    • @NightmareForge
      @NightmareForge 2 роки тому +3

      @@discflame There is a difference, what was, and what is. When they were seen wearing holodeck clothes people looked at them odd, when it was the american flag they had to explain away why it was. Course, the original series was pretty hokie, but, Discovery is definitely just dropping everything of now into it. Which is why at some point it will be dated not because of graphics.
