The reason that all of this got included in the shows is that this is LITERALLY Christopher Pike's canon fate: he's horribly disfigured in that accident. TOS has a 2 part episode covering the aftermath of that. In the end, Spock arranges for Pike to settle on that planet with the telepathic aliens, Talos 4. Remember the ones who helped Spock when his memory got screwed up??? Well, they're able to give Pike a comfy life using their illusion powers so to him it seems like he's back to normal again and he lives out the rest of his life with the woman who helped Burnham and Spock when they went there. Pike met and fell in love with her on a mission in the original pilot episode TOS.
It gets even more wild… Pike's injury was conceived of to cover up that they changed actors. And they only did that because they wanted to reuse the footage from the original pilot in a clip show. To save on production costs.
The dictation would not know the difference between the 2 voices, and was never stopped. the letter Pike says he was about to write, was recorded with all the references to time as well

What would have been better is if this Christopher Pike had met himself after the baffle plate rupture/delta rays accident, either in his motorized chair or his likeness living on Talos IV. A colossal moment in film that could have been or could be...but as of yet hasn't been seized upon.
Everyone debates about Trek alternate timelines However ever time they time travel they alter the timeline creating a new one so I would think that there are many Trek timelines
no way pike was fleet admiral in the JJ trek continuity. marcus is a fleet admiral. pike is probably a 2-3 star admiral tops. TOS so we know pike got promoted by 2264 when they gave enterprise to kirk. 2266 he has the accident. so basically he got capped at that rank. in this timeline since he never got injured it's possible he would've kept getting promoted.
In other words, the accident and deaths of the cadets is a fixed point in time. It cannot be changed without serious consequences or the Klkngons or the Department of Temporal investigations will intervene to correct the anomalies.
This scene also shows off a continuity blooper. Pay attention to the young woman passing in the background at 0:27 and then passing again at 0:30. Same actress, same character.
That's what you come up with for a continuity blooper? How about the fact that Kirk became captain of the Enterprise before Pike's accident. Writing the letter does nothing.
I can't reconcile that these ships are surrounded by deadly vacuum yet all the areas inside the ship are incredibly open with no bulkheads to seal areas should damage occur. And yes they may have force fields, but damage plus power loss means death for everyone in these huge open areas.
I really love this episode. I'm a pretty hardcore Star Trek fan. Don't tell a lot of people but I really love strange new Worlds. It's not overtly political comment it just strives to make good Star Trek. The show that this is based on is amazing it's a TOS episode called balance of terror. Just beware after you watch balance of terror you'll have the saddening feeling. I can tell you that for a fact because there are no other episodes anywhere like it. Balance of terror is a beautiful glaring almost sensuous view into early space battle and into the Romulan Empire.
Do... Do you not understand the political overtones of Balance of Terror and what the Romulan Empire represents in relation to a real world ideological power (Communist China, the Klingons being Soviet Russia) or is history not something kids learn these days? 🤔
It's interesting that the boy's name Maat, is ancient Egyptian for the proper order of things, or the way things should be. Pike's attempt to save the cadet Maat disrupts the way things should be.
This is still my all-time fave Trek episode (fight me), but the differences in this version of the maroon TWOK uniform had me a bit annoyed - the different angle of the flap, the arms etc. But now I figure it makes more sense as it's from a future that's a bit off from what we know?
It's a shame the writers of the Star Trek series' can't get away from 'someone from the future' giving them solutions. The worst was Voyager where the crew seemed to be, despite being in the Delta Quadrant, time travelling to Earth on a fairly regular basis.

Is it that future Pike is telling now Pike that his future sacrifice saves Spock from death, who is destined to save the Galaxy, and that no timeline where Pike avoids his fate does Spock survive. Therefore Pike’s destiny is to prevent catastrophe for Spock. Is that what this scene is about???
What would have been better is if this Christopher Pike had met himself after the baffle plate rupture/delta rays accident, either in his motorized chair or his likeness living on Talos IV. A colossal moment in film that could have been or could be...but as of yet hasn't been seized upon.
While I'm glad they brought back the Movie Uniform originally introduced in TWOK, I don't like that it was altered. It was perfect the way it was.
It was altered to show that’s it’s not the prime universe and is the creation of the temporal mistake pike was going to make
😂 i love the wrath of khan uniform!!
Everyone debates about Trek alternate timelines However ever time they time travel they alter the timeline creating a new one so I would think that there are many Trek timelines
Anson has the best hair.
Good lord he looks good in that (2280's) Admirals Uniform
That fucking uniform is FIRE!
RIP sir Neighsalot
All that hairspray has leaked into Pike's skull. He looks like he does the window displays at a fashion boutique.
I do like the red ones trousers.
Anson Mount was the perfect choice for Pike!
They have awesomely powerful hair gel in the future.
Futer pike is wearing and admiral rank . He was a ( fleet captain) in tos . But in jj Abrams. He was a fleet admiral. And captain of the enterprise
no way pike was fleet admiral in the JJ trek continuity. marcus is a fleet admiral. pike is probably a 2-3 star admiral tops.
Future Pike: Oh, there's something about a... portal, purple hair, i don't know it slipped my mind.
I can't reconcile that these ships are surrounded by deadly vacuum yet all the areas inside the ship are incredibly open with no bulkheads to seal areas should damage occur. And yes they may have force fields, but damage plus power loss means death for everyone in these huge open areas.
I love how apparently Pike remains the same amount of middle aged for about 30 years...
Amazing they look like the same guy with different hair do
"Captain."
I’ve always been a big fan of Anson and him in this series just cemented that
Don't tell him Pike!
And Balance of Terror wasn't overly political?? That's hilarious 😂
Do... Do you not understand the political overtones of Balance of Terror and what the Romulan Empire represents in relation to a real world ideological power (Communist China, the Klingons being Soviet Russia) or is history not something kids learn these days? 🤔
You are clueless lol. This whole show is a woke trash. Season 1 was okay but S2 went into over drive .
This should have been the 2009 reboot.
his future self has a bit of the same tone as Greenwood's Pike
"I'm you ... but BETTER."
Are you telling me that with warp drives and transporters, they cant heal a broken leg in a horse? 🐴
You have a point!
It's interesting that the boy's name Maat, is ancient Egyptian for the proper order of things, or the way things should be. Pike's attempt to save the cadet Maat disrupts the way things should be.
At least he's not on the wheelchair like Hawking does.
This is still my all-time fave Trek episode (fight me), but the differences in this version of the maroon TWOK uniform had me a bit annoyed - the different angle of the flap, the arms etc. But now I figure it makes more sense as it's from a future that's a bit off from what we know?
Anson Mount….he IS Pike.
Can any tell how you can have a fire in an ALL ATMOSPHERE environment?
It's a shame the writers of the Star Trek series' can't get away from 'someone from the future' giving them solutions. The worst was Voyager where the crew seemed to be, despite being in the Delta Quadrant, time travelling to Earth on a fairly regular basis.
More like "someone from the future stopping them from changing the future" here
I've never seen this show, but I have to say the clips here on UA-cam make it look amazing. Is it really this good?
It's probably some of the best of this era of Trek. I'm hoping once they conclude the show, they keep the sets and give us a recasted TOS.
"So what happens to me in the future, My Future Self?"
"Not much. The TV show doesn't do very well, and everyone forgets that you exist."
Actually that's not true: fans have known of Pike's final fate for decades.
The return of the Monster Maroon.
Lots of comments here starting with similar phrases: "I love..." "i like..." hmmmm bots?
That munster maroon is smexy
