As a budding director and writer, I found his honesty very interesting, to the point and important points to keep in mind such as debt, SAG and money gained. Filmmaking is too expensive, so also I understand his point about using non-union and keeping up with the changing times.
As an independent producer/director, you always want to be cost-effective when it comes to your films because it takes a Tom of resources to make a high quality film. I love that Jay addressed this point by saying that the director gets paid last because it's true.
He’s being real when he says that a lot of the financial problems that come up with making movies stems from issues with unions, more specifically SAG. They’re very difficult, and ultimately they cause making films to many times be unaffordable. When you work with them in this capacity then you realize that they’re a union specifically meant for dealing with big budget films and they’re not great for filmmakers or actors that aren’t involved in projects of that magnitude. There’s so much work and art that could be made, but we suffocate our potential by dealing with these union guidelines. Just sad.
Heres a free idea, feel free to donate if it works, they should produce Saints row based game movie. When the game saints row came out it had a wild hit.
Thanks Jay. The idea of getting the script, finding the location and shooting the film, all in less than a year. Brilliant. Think do.
Great honest and realistic discussion

he meant producer gets paid last.. the director normally gets paid before the producer. most directors are hired etc..

I get so much value from this channel. Thank you
Thank you, Bryan!
God bless I dream to be a great movie producer this is awesome.
I believe Film Unions need to be reformed in America and the UK. The cost of films are going financially up so much.
As a producer I've wondered what the point is to going through all of this for the movie only to be lost in streaming land.
Hello everyone.
I'm currently making 2 movies. 1 is a clay animation. These are great tips. I'm creating it all myself.so this helps alot.

why not use NON-SAG actors?
SAG had rules & SOPs for low budget, indie type films. Student films.
