A truly interesting experience. Met with inmates who were very happy to talk and freely discuss any questions we asked. We feel it is beneficial for people to visit and purchase from their shop as all funds go towards helping the Rehabilitation of the prisoners. Is this somewhere you would visit? Comment below.

there's a lot of local action movies that's made there in 70s and 80s.the storyline are that major casts in the movie are always being caught and imprisoned coz of their involvement to the gangs, robbed some banks or killed people from another gang.its because many guns proliferated in the philippines when the americans left the country after ww2.and gangs suddenly appear throughout metro manila and cebu, and were being portrayed in the movies as cool.i used to watch a lot of those movies when i was a kid after the school classes together with my other siblings and my dad and during weekends.

Thanks for showing us what prison is like in Palawan. Am impressed how these prisoners seemed well behaved. Filipino’s good nature in welcoming guests are extended even by offenders. You got me subscribing and I surely will share this video. Thank you.

L😂L. Who would want to leave such a beautiful place and peacefully that turn like a home. Nice housing and environment. It’s like different countries. I would not. The place it’s like sanctuary luxury place. It is not a prisoner place that you know. They are free as a bird just like outsiders . We’ll feed , free health care. They have their own hospitals , grocery market. What else they could not have. As far I can see they are in vacation in a luxury place.. it feels likes they living in an abroad life. Even tho abroad jail do not have that kind of luxury advantages. Now my thinking is , since this is now airing to the public and lots of people see it. I am worried that some people might do a simple crime just to get in ,on that sanctuary luxuries jail freedom L😂L. I mean who would not. . I think America should have some like that for a kids who do addictions crimes. Teach them what works life is and build their knowledge to the advantages. A work shop foundation skills jail. That would be awesome.

@@joyrussell1974this is the second prison I learned how the Philippines studied how prisoners can adjust upon release. The first was in Cebu ( until now) they have a dancing inmates. Instead of military stiff training, they’re made to wake early dancing for physical exercise for several hrs. and enjoying. Instead of being idle that ends up a fight so they’re again called in the afternoon for hrs to dance. Result: their attitude changed and easily integrated to the neighborhoods. The report only 1 came back to prison.

I am an American living in Puerto Princesa for several years. I have visited Iwahig twice. There is a river running through there with a nice swimming hole you can visit. There, a prisoner caught and killed a wild chicken and cooked it for me.
Also, near the entrance I saw a young man catch a python snake. I do not know if he was a prisoner or not.
Also interesting is the architecture of some of the building inside Iwahig Prison done in "American Colonial" style. I could see some engravings on the buildings saying something about being part of "The Commonwealth" of the USA. They made an attempt to remove those engravings after they got their independence. Just some history to be seen.
Another bit of history to be seen is a small park next to the Cathedral in down town Puerto Princesa. During WWII, as the US was approaching Palawan Island, the Japanese forced American POWs into a tunnel in that park, poured gasoline on them and set them on fire. However, one POW escaped and later wrote a book about it.
And... next to "the old airport terminal " there is a very interesting museum containing items showing Palawan's experiences while under the Japanese rule during WWII. Fascinating place.

Why not? Their rehabilitation is for assimilation back to society and being productive.
The money they produce helps other prisoners to be rehabilitated.

Interesting insight to re-education of inmates giving them jobs to create crafts with their own hands. I am against drugs. However sentence is extremely harsh & disproportionate for that man for one small bag of marijuana to get a life sentence. No wonder prison is full.

this is very interesting. it's more like a rehabilitation prison school to learn life. . I think every country should have like that . to educate a person and teach them real life. that is so cool. The only thing that caught me is . a person going to prison for smoking one stick marijuana; and its take 24 to 30 years to serve. . wow , its like you commit a crime prudgery . I think that os a bet harsh punishment lol. that is very interesting content. i never know philippines has open prison. n o babwire or barakadge .very interesting indeed.
