This thing is my argument against the current fad of trying to make all the models across a brand looking the same. It's a 4x4. It looks like a 4x4, not every other Suzuki. I like it.
Sold my beloved ‘79 Series 3 Land Rover recently. To soften the blow, I did a test drive in one of these. Clearly, there are compromises, but it seems like a great wee vehicle. Puts a smile on your face. Have placed my order (6 month wait here in NZ). Kinetic Yellow, manual - can’t wait! P.s. great review, thanks!
Replaced my Defender 90" Td5 with a new Jimny, its quieter, quicker, faster and uses less fuel, not quite as good offroad as the Defender but good enough for my needs.
Good one Crafty. It's amazing how we (consumers) love boxy 4WDs. The Jimny, 70 Series Landcruiser, G63, Defender, now the new Bronco. I don't know what it is, but I like them.
Hammer! Sorry mate I've only just seen this! And, yep, you make a good point, as always: there's just something about a chunky, boxy 4WD that gets the blood going. Thanks for taking the time to watch our vids and to comment. We all appreciate it. - Crafty
Love one! Test drove it on the first day of launch on Australia Day 2018 and I was so sorry of committing to one. As a family of 3, it would suffice day to day but dealing with 2 doors and the safety aspect getting out in a hurry has me reconsider. On road jiggly nature and slow steering is part of the charm. Kind of like how people ride mountain bike for road riding.
I tested on on the first day of release on and around Geelong . My best description is a quad bike with a roof can't wait for the 5 door. I have a Suzuki grand Vitara the back doors will make it a no brainer
Used ones selling for $39,000 + on roads here in Perth. Dealers ripping people off like you wouldn't believe. Can't/won't say if or when more are coming. It's too bad, because I wanted one but buying (attempted) experience has turned me off.
I placed an order for a new one, two weeks ago. I went to a few dealers, Place at Osbourne park tried to say they're 35k+ new with on roads(auto with white paint). The guy at Melville told me the actual price, which matched what I found when researching them online... ( $32,790, with grey paint and auto) 2k cheaper than the guy at Ozzy parks tried to slog me for. Apparently, I'm going to be waiting a while, however. Crazy that people are paying so much just to have them now... I read an article which said that they're expanding the factory where they're being built, so turn around in 2021 will be a lot quicker.
p.s. They had a Yellow automatic available for $33,990 because someone canceled their order, but I'm not a fan of that colour. Maybe try Melville and ask to be contacted when they have one available due to someone canceling if you don't mind any colour.
Same here. Went to a dealer thinking I'd be looking at 25k for a manual in white (that's what the recommended retail price was showing). The dealer told me $34k...not a chance!
I would absolutely love one of these, I got in early when they first came out and was tempted but unfortunately I needed work options and ended up buying a single cab chassis 2WD high ride Dmax for just under $30,000.
Best review I have seen by a country mile well done. They are a purpose built 4x4 not a city / highway car that some insist on comparing it with. As you said all you need to do is wack a set of 215 AT’s and a 50” Suspension lift and these puppies will go absolutely anywhere
Test drove one last year when they came out with the 1.5L engine but regrettably didn't order one. Took my wife out for a test drive recently and guess what! She abused me for not ordering it last year!
The problem with all of these "faux" 4x4 systems is that it takes a second for them to figure out what to do, and that's enough to loose momentum. This is why proper lockers are superior. Example at 6:42 (keep a close eye at the rear right wheel - it stops spinning and the car stops moving forward for just a second).
Love this. Can't get in Canada...yet. Hoping since the EU banned it for emissions they will need a new market and it would be great here in the Great White North. Hoping Toyota imports it for NA.
I think what Suzuki should do is to large the scale a bit, make a 7 seater with 2L engine and keep everything as it is price at 35K, It will sell like hot cake... young people/couple who has family and they want everyday use car with some off road capabilities and reliability will definitely buy this.
@@garynew9637 yea... old Vitara not the current gen which is just another soccer mum car... We need 7 seater Jimny.... Jeep is good off-roader but not a 7 seater and not that reliable, Nissan Pathfinder now just family hauler, Nissan X-trailer again family car, Mitsubishi Outlander is the only option in small/medium car category which is 7 seater AWD or Skoda Kodiaq than large car category Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Kluger etc are other options but none of these are fully capable off-roader Toyota Forguner is good off-roader but expensive, ugly and highly un-comfortable.......
Spot on!! Suzuki have a market for it and if they got the combination right it would sell well. Agree with a 2litre or slightly bigger engine and larger tyres. They could make a capable off road oriented competitor in the family sector. The Jimny is cheap, simple, reliable and light weight. A version with more seats would be a winner with a lot of people.
So much fun to watch but I can’t take this car seriously. Can’t fit one bicycle in the back, can’t drive on the road and feel safe. Looks great and if I lived with goats on a mountain and had to get my Rambo knife sharpened once a month this would be perfect

With jimny 3 stars rating no good for taking the kids to school on busy roads, as you never know if someone hits you i guess. But bush and farm yeah.
You have to look beyond the stars. The jimny gets only 3 stars mainly because it doesnt have all the fancy electronic systems that pricier cars have and also is pretty boxy so the pedestrian collision ratings are bad.. The ratings for people inside the car are fine. You can look at the official Euro NCAP site for details.
@@banaana1234 the Jimny came with the pedestrian systems, it's really a 3 star car but considering it's a ladder fram 4x4 it's not that bad And hey, still better than most cars sold in my country
@@xalataf3365 Not true. The pedestrian rating is only 52% and safety assist rating at 50%, while the adult occupant rating is 73% and child occupant rating 84%. Its the basic electronic systems and boxy shape that are dragging the star rating down.
A friend put a VW 1.9 Sdi in a Samurai 413 and totally transformed it for offroading, a lot of driving in low 1st gear on tickover, much better downhill engine breaking and that was before he changed transfer gears to 6.5 to 1. A diesel conversion in the new Jimny would be very expensive and not possible because of warranty issues, would make for a more capable vehicle though.
No, no, no diesel or turbo!!! I know you can get more torque out of diesel but it is not good for cold places or where the diesel fuel quality is an issue.
