    Great video
    Question for #10:
    Why can’t you use the “and” formula to solve? Why does the “or” condition influence the computation?
    Thanks!!!

    • @MrHelpfulNotHurtful
      @MrHelpfulNotHurtful  2 роки тому

      The AND. Formula is only for independent events like rolling dice or picking up cards and putting them back before picking a new card. When you are talking about percentages of people having donuts and/or coffee you cannot assume these are independent events, so use the OR formula. As a clue, if they give you the OR percentage, use the OR formula.

    Nevermind: read the comments and it makes sense, my bad.
    For 14:31 shouldn't it be P(D intersect C) since the question is asking for coffee AND donut?

      But they are not the same. It is 50.4% when you use P(D intersect C) = P(D)*P(C)

    • @MrHelpfulNotHurtful
      @MrHelpfulNotHurtful  4 роки тому +3

      @@nellvincervantes3223 Notice that the AND formula is labeled "for independent events" in the video. Events like rolling dice or flipping a coin are independent. Also, drawing a card and putting it back before drawing a second card would be independent. Buying a doughnut and buying coffee are not independent events, so you cannot use the AND formula. You must use the OR formula as shown in the video.

    Please someone can help me resolve this probability 2) Assume that the probability of experiencing homelessness among people who inject drugs is 65% .
    a) Pretend that we have a sample of 10 people who inject drugs. (2 points)
    i) Calculate the probability that none of these 10 people are experiencing homelessness.
    ii) Calculate the probability that 1 of these 10 people is experiencing homelessness.
    iii) Calculate the probability that 5 of these 10 people are experiencing homelessness.
    iv) Calculate the probability that at least 6 of these 10 people are experiencing homelessness.

    On the 10th question couldn't we just multiply the percentage of the people who buy a donut and the percentage of people who buy coffee

    • @MrHelpfulNotHurtful
      @MrHelpfulNotHurtful  2 місяці тому

      Multiplying the two percentages will only give you the correct probability of two events happening when those two events are independent. We cannot assume these events are independent. The mention of a percentage of people who get a coffee or a donut basically tells you that’s these events are not independent and you must use the formula I used instead.

    There are 7 even number in 15. These are the numbers 2,4,6,8,10,12,14. If we do it the way you did it then it will be wrong. Please recheck before uploading into UA-cam. It could possibly lead someone else into confusion. But your probability techniques are accurate. Good work.

      @rebbekandahuma2173 3 роки тому +4

      no, the total number of the respective numbers with different colours adds up to 15. its numbers 1-5 multiplied by the 3 distinct colours that gives you the 15. hope you get what im tryna say. 😊
