📏 Despised by his contemporaries, Arthur Schopenhauer offered us a vision of human nature both profound and haunting. To him, humanity is nothing more than an instrument of the world’s will, endlessly striving to perpetuate itself through time. Pessimistic, you say? Let’s delve into that…

👨🏻🏫 WHO IS "THE PRECEPTOR"?
With a master's degree in philosophy, Charles Robin spent over a decade as a private tutor. In 2024, he launched the channel "The Preceptor" to share his passion for philosophy.

What about you? Do you agree with Schopenhauer? Share your thoughts in the comments!
Not entirety. A circle represents infinite time like a figure 8.
The astrological sun symbol/target symbol represents inner and outer..
A lot of thing you say can't be grasped mentally are perfectly clear with not too much imagination.
A big dot near a little dot represents what we consider creators and creations just fine in cases where one has been exposed to enough different types of information somehow.
Of course. I’m the truth.
I like Schopenhauer ❤
While Schopenhauer’s perspective on love and sex is undeniably thought-provoking, I find it difficult to align entirely with his pessimistic outlook. Life is so much more than a blind, striving force of the Will. I believe in love, not as a mere biological mechanism, but as a profound and transformative connection that brings joy, meaning, and purpose to our lives.
Love, for me, is a celebration of our humanity-an experience that transcends the purely physical or utilitarian. It is about companionship, shared dreams, and the beauty of vulnerability. While desire and attraction may have roots in nature’s drive for survival, they are also capable of evolving into something far more profound. Love is the spark that inspires art, compassion, and courage, helping us rise above life’s struggles rather than merely enduring them.
Joy, too, is an essential part of the human experience. Schopenhauer might have focused on suffering and dissatisfaction, but I see life as a dance between challenges and triumphs. Joy can be found in the small, fleeting moments-a smile, a kind word, the warmth of the sun on your face. These are reminders that life, despite its imperfections, is a gift worth cherishing.
While I respect Schopenhauer’s deep exploration of metaphysics and his attempt to uncover life’s hidden truths, I believe his view leaves out the richness of love and joy. These are not just escapes from suffering-they are integral to the human spirit, lifting us beyond survival to truly living.
Well put. Nothing but illusions placed on us to convince us to keep playing the game.

Schopenhauer also said it this way about not having free will.
"You can do what you will but you cannot will what you will".
The will is a result of causes and conditions out of our control.
Literally the best video I've watched for a long long time simple and elaborated
I certainly agree with Cchopenhauer. I have always asked highly educated and intelligent people the question "What is the purpose of life" and none of them seem to know the answer.
There is no one answer. Think bout it a little harder....
What kind of life? A squirrel? A human?
What gender is the creature? How does it feel?
Nutshell answer is It's case by case.
Growth
From unity/love we came to the test of duality.
We must return to love/unity.
This is the journey of the soul which we call life. The meaning is always within itself.
No purpose, truly random and absurd.
no mandatory purpose but treat others (all moving life beings) as yourself is our nature. we all live through others, you and I and someone else as one
thanks from Bogotá-Colombia. let's enjoy the ride, it doesn't last long enough to feel it.
See the thing is is there's a big difference between love and unconditional love they are not the same thing Love is egotistic unconditional love has no ego 0:12
Jiddu Krishnamurti made this amply clear when he said :
"The idea is not love. The idea, the word is not love. But only when you have seen the whole movement of desire, attachment, pleasure, then out of that depth of perception comes this strange flower with its extraordinary perfume. That is love."
Bro ist gibt keine Bedingungslos Liebe. Deine Mutter liebt dich weil du ihr Kind bist 😊
Unconditional love means your partner can do whatever they like to do even if they cheat you still love them. Wrong I don't do Unconditional love if my partner cheat or do something wrong I tell them to get out . And it's boring there's no challenges in Unconditional love .
This world is a narcissistic prison.
The analogy to Keyser Soze was brilliant. It brought clarity and ironically I recently watched that movie (Usual Suspects), so the concept of the shapeshifting deceiver and monster is spot on. Very interesting this will guy.
Thank you Charles !
I must have listened to all your French episodes, but I still really like this new English channel.
Even if it can be hard to find a meaningful life, loving people make that life purposeful, to care, help and love others, not necessarily only those we deeply love.
I enjoyed this episode on Schopenhauer, but I won't see life as he did, I don't think we should stop the endless reproducing and there's something beautiful at getting over suffering, when life gave you that opportunity(some suffers all their life and I have a lot of empathy for them) to enjoy life more than suffering from it. I don't have kids just because I didn't have the opportunity to unite with the right woman yet and I decide I wouldn't reproduce just to do it, it has to be with someone I truly love and that I think that even if we eventually break up, we would be able to stay united by friendship and being the parents of that/these kids. Too many made kids without taking the responsibilities that comes with it, so better not replicate the cycle if it's not to fully care and love those kids. Now, many makes kids just for the financial allocation that comes with multiple kids, I know many of those guys, who doesn't spend much time educating their kids, but they spend the allocation money, cause they made kid mostly for this reason.
Get to steppin!😂
The first philosophy video I've watched this 2025. New subsctiber here, keep up the good work pal!
Simple and elaborate ❤️
life is empty and meaningless and it is empty and meaningless that it's empty and meaningless ❤
That's true. And that's why we need to be practical and create meaning for ourselves and probably others
Even I am having same feeling. We are programmed...few monks knew that and trying to escape from it
Purpose of life is transcendence. Liberation ontology. Schopenhauer was close but he was no Adi Shankara
Thank you, Charles ! I'll remenber Schopenhauer on Valentine's day and I'll be a little more... philosophical about it :))
😂😂😂
I feel very much like Schopenhauer, lately. 😊
Charles you are a blessing. With you, philosophy more amazing.
I have a small penis 4 inches
I thought it was a curse but
It kept me from having sex and made me tough
Men and women make fun of me
This is a very interesting topic !!
Human love is hollow. You have to trust the object of your love in order to love it and after a lifetime of mind games and materialistic nonsense.....no thanks.
Schopenhauer was a proto-naturalist, a precursor of Charles Darwin. He almost had it when he talked about animal survival.
Great content, voice and intonation. Thanks. Subbed.
I don't sub often to UA-cam channels, yours definitely left a good a imression!
There is always opportunity to reach for a better feeling thought.
All joy and suffering comes from within feelings and emotions are chemical reactions in the brain who should be responsible what goes on inside you 😮
People are not disturbed by things but the
views they take of them
Imagine you never had a thought that was disturbing you would you be disturbed?
It is attachment to your own thoughts that have now been clearly identified as conceptual fabrications that are the cause of your suffering.
Wondeing r how the will , spoken of here, reconciles with gurdjieff s ideas on the matter. Thank you for this great presentation 🎉
Merci Charles Robin
Thank you very much. Very nice way to tell.
Very interesting, I always think like this after growing traveling look at the vast amount of space etc thanks for sharing this
Time is an illusion.
THIS IS A GOOD SEGWAY FROM THE TOPIC OF EPHEMERAL PERCEPTION TO THE TOPIC OF PERSPECTIVE i.e... ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE. ONE THAT WILL SURELY BROADEN YOUR HORIZONS.
Thank you 😊❤🙏💝
New subscriber here too. Very interesting work!
I can’t embark on two points of Schopenhauer: space and time. Obviously they do exist but humans are beyond it. Yes, humans can imagine things beyond it. But most of the people think like him.
I don't identify with the beginning of life (proteins and evolution) either.
Will to live and Will to Die - Freud.
There is no free sex.
Only a mad Person would come up with a concept free love
That’s why they call it “gay”
Great voice thank you. 🎉
It's not dark or pessmistic. He is just sober.
Thank you 😮
I have a small penis 4 inches
I thought it was a curse but
It kept me from having sex and made me tough
Men and women make fun of me
Very interesting👌🏿
But it feels so good!😅
Correct, I agreed. No such things as free will!
This is very good.
Amazing 😮
Interesting concept
I'll have to became catatonic to grasp the deeper meanings of conjectural reality.
Thanks
A bit better A.I. voice than the previous video, still improvements to be done.
That is not A.I actually.
@Romanovic-c5d Is it your voice ?
What a genius !
sheeesshh je vais peut être me le reécouté cette lucidité qui ferrait flanché n'importe quel humain.
Right 😂
Love is not a trap... stupidity is.
Sounds like Schopenhaur had absolutely no control over his life and was trying to intellectualize it.
That’s what happens when women aren’t interested. Happens to almost all men now.

Read the modern spiritual classic, “I Am That”.
You are not. What is “that” referring to? New age bs. What is this supposed to mean? Anything you want? Nothing? Please. Demand more.

Schopenhauer's philosophy presents a deeply introspective and, at times, provocative exploration of metaphysics, love, and sex, viewing them as interconnected elements within the human condition. His metaphysical framework, rooted in the "Will" as the fundamental force of existence, permeates his understanding of love and sexual attraction, casting them not as mere emotional or romantic endeavors but as manifestations of the Will to life.
Schopenhauer's metaphysics positions the Will as an irrational, blind force driving all beings toward survival and reproduction. From this perspective, love is not a purely spiritual or selfless experience but an instrument of the Will, ensuring the continuation of life. Romantic attraction, in his view, often arises unconsciously as individuals seek partners whose genetic qualities complement their own, striving to produce the "ideal" offspring. This interpretation reduces love to a biological mechanism, emphasizing its role in fulfilling nature's reproductive imperative.
Sex, too, is framed within this metaphysical context. Schopenhauer regarded sexual desire as a potent expression of the Will's drive. While he acknowledged its creative potential, he also viewed it with skepticism, considering it a source of suffering and conflict. The pursuit of sexual gratification, according to Schopenhauer, often leads to disillusionment, as the individual's yearning for transcendence or fulfillment clashes with the limitations of physical reality.
Interestingly, Schopenhauer's perspective on love and sex also reflects his broader pessimism about life. He saw existence as characterized by endless striving and inevitable dissatisfaction, with love and sexual desire serving as microcosms of this universal struggle. For Schopenhauer, true liberation lay in renouncing the Will through asceticism, art, or philosophical contemplation, transcending the cycle of desire and suffering.
While Schopenhauer's views may seem reductive or even cynical, they offer profound insights into the human experience. By analyzing love and sex through the lens of metaphysics, he challenges us to consider their deeper implications and their role in shaping our lives. His work invites us to question the nature of desire, the interplay between individual longing and universal forces, and the ways in which we seek meaning and connection in an often tumultuous world.
Schopenhauer’s philosophy serves as a compelling starting point for exploring the complexities of human relationships, reminding us that beneath the surface of our emotions and attractions lie profound metaphysical currents shaping our existence.
OK but why, why wants the force do this, or why is there a force at all. To be honest love doesn't make any sense and the good feeling as a form of reward makes also no sense, unless somebody or something wants us to reproduce (animals and humans)
Oui
After listening to this illustration I have more questions than answers…
Why do we want sex even after children came and gone?
Thank you
probably because you can still able to reproduce even if you already did child , because the brain is dumb and don't count how many you make.
Higher change to keep our bloodline/linage intact.
It is said that some men can impregnate women into old age. The drive to procreate is strong.
because nature always want more children to feed her system.
The same reason our reptile brain wants to over eat, crave power or harm others. It's something we need to overcome in order to advance spiritually. Imo 🤷♂️
It seems like ur saying " everythg is every thing. " 😊
Great.
Your English rocks ❤
It's not Charles who speaks, but it's an English translation(made by a human) of his own texts.
@joeblow9891 OK I see now the voice is just amazing
@joeblow9891 Thanks for letting me know
If he was better looking he would be saying different things.
Yup. But he expresses what most of us have to go through.
It seems rl me that he describes gravity and its effects along with how it affects physical matter as will. He seems to think gravity is the creative force that holds it all together whether 🌎 earth and moon or sun and planets or the spirals around the core or ⚫ black hole in the center of said galaxy. It seems to me will is gravity and that in turn GOD that holds the perceptual as one unit with many constitutional constituents we perceive as reality.
He just can't pack it all into his brain.
Well it's very interesting that his viewpoints and perceptions seem to be proven right in some of the most grotesque and insane ways today.

Barely. Any western philosopher is a little. He knew they were whiny and soft though. But he appreciated their way of happiness, through peace of mind.
