  • Switch light bulb replacement: 10 to 15 minutes ($2 / $50 / $90)
    The interior switches that run along the dash have light bulbs in them that blow out over time. This video will show you how to replace the bulbs. Pretty simple process if you know how to do it.

    Great video and helpful to save some money. Funny enough the exact same switch has blown on mine. Those small 12v bulbs are often call "grains of wheat" bulbs and are common for model railway builders. Tons on ebay and cheap. Off to fix my bulb now. Thanks from the UK.

    Sounds like the dealership was taking the micky big style.
    A spot on repair, looks original :D
    I used to go to tandys for the same type of bulb for illumination of c.b radio meters, they had long white wires on, but were the same bulb.
    Before everyone got dumb and health&safety stepped in, we had xmas tree lights that were connected straight to 240v ac, 20 x 12v bulbs, those bulbs were good to illuminate panel meters as well.

    I bought a bunch of bulbs called
    T1 0.72W 12V 6.35x3.15mm miniature bulbs.
    I have not confirmed if these are identical to the OEM specs, but they look identical to the bulbs I replaced. The brightness looks similar too, maybe a smidge brighter if anything.

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  2 роки тому +1

      could be a little brighter because they are new. The 0.72w is the brightness. I'm not sure what the original specs are.

    I recently working on my 960. The light bulbs should be interchangeable between 850 960 and so on.
    The RadioShack is gone.
    The lights bulbs are
    12V 30-100mA (viable between size and diameter) micro light bulb
    For my 960 it's 3mm diameter, you can take out the bulb from your car and measure it. For me it's
    12V 60mA 3mm micro light bulb.
    100 pieces for 10 bucks on Amazon.

      Thank you alot Robert DIY but I already have a replacement. I'm changing the colour of my interior light on my project car to green and blue. So all those beneath the dash are going to be bright green so I suppose that means I'll have to sodder it and replace the bulb with my new bright green one.

      +Anton Tyberg it has a twist bulb in it, you just have to Dremel the casing to get at it.

    Robert, I am a great fan of your work!
    Do you have any published experience on the little panel of switches above the rear view mirror that control all the interior bay lights? '96 850 GLT wagon
    Jim

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  9 років тому +1

      +Jim Jacobson If you are referring to the Home Link buttons on the visors, they didn't become optional until '99 I believe. You can install them on any P80 car and they do work fine. There are 3 buttons so you can control 3 garage door openers.

    • @jimjacobson3604
      @jimjacobson3604 9 років тому

      +Robert DIY No, not on the visors themselves. I'm having trouble with the set of three buttons on the ceiling of the car directly above the rear view mirror. The center button is a 3-position rocker switch which determines whether the dome light and above-passenger-door lights come on when any door is open, or not at all, or if they stay on. On either side of this rocker switch there is a 2-position push-switch which turns on an overhead light (map-reading light) for the driver, or front passenger, depending on which side of the rocker switch it is.
      On my 850, the (plastic?) hinge for the rocker switch has broken, and two itty bitty springs came out which obviously make the electrical connection. Without this switch and its little springs in place, none of the interior lights will work.
      I was hoping you had some experience with removal and repair of this simple, yet vital little panel. Particularly, how to safely remove the trim piece so I can get at the switches. I don't want to break the plastic trim and/or any clips it uses to stay in place, and I want to be able to safely remove this part from a JY parts car.

    My Volvo 1998 s90 hazard lights are not working and from what I understand this is why the turn signals only flash when manually switched on and off. After watching this video I hope I can pop the switch out unplug it and plug in a new hazard switch? It seems like an easy fix. Am I missing any thing? Thanks for your great videos Robert!

    • @RobertDIY

      Keir Halewood Is pushes out from the back. Just pull the switch next to it, then push it out.

    • @kvh911
      @kvh911 9 років тому

      Keir Halewood actual since have an s90 with the wood trim the dimmer and headlight switch lock into the trim piece from the back. So you need to pry the trim piece out from the top left of the panel then it slides to the left so you can pop the switches out. The bulbs are real tricky to get out on these switches for some reason.
