Hathras: What's happening with the rape and murder case?

- Five months after the gangrape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl in #Hathras, #UttarPradesh, the family is struggling to cope with the multiple court hearings. Though the chargesheet confirms gangrape and murder, three of the four accused have applied for bail on grounds that the girl was a victim of 'honor killing' by her family.
In this video, Nidhi Suresh takes a look at the #chronology of the case, how the victim's family is coping, and some of the arguments made by the lawyer of the accused men.

It's hard to believe that the defendant's lawyer actually went to law school and cleared AIBE.
Aibe exam is an open book test.
@@dipayandasgupta4476 Does not mean that everyone clears it. Lot of exams in IIM's too are open book-FYI.
@@jonron3805 dipayan actually has a point. Heard AIBE does not have a high standard and that it is merely treated as a formality by LLB graduates. But my point is what did he learn in college? 😂
@@sayankundu2092Laws of every country have aspects that sound odd but have some rational to their origin. Firstly no case is fought by placing 1 argument, even the smallest of lawyers knows that. The defence would have produced at least 10-15 arguments. The media has picked the most quirky sounding one and presented it as its the most spicy one. Thats how media works. Does that mean the whole case is fought on the basis of this quirky sounding argument. No.
Secondly there is something in law that says that if there is a cultural norm in society and the accusation claims it is violated then the judge should consider that aspect and it adds on to the unlikely-hood of its happening. Remember it adds on to but is not sufficient by itself.
Let me give an example: Normally people if people of a cultural do not urinate in a religious place. So if in some crime one of the points says that the accused urinated in a religious place, the court will see it in doubt. They would not totally rule it out but will be in favour of unlikely-hood.
