As a 32 year veteran teacher, I just want to let you know how much I appreciate your videos and your humble attitude. You have such a positive vibe and contagious energy that inspires me. So thank you! 👏😁❤️
I like the idea of having librarians to help with sorting the books. Delegating tasks to students is an important part of teaching that should be mastered sooner rather than later. Good vid!
I've been teaching for 31 years, currently teaching h.s. English for the last 10. Next year I'll be teaching 5th grade, eek! I just LOVE new teachers. You are so full of enthusiasm and great new ideas!
I LOVE the crates on the bottom shelf behind your desk. I had no idea they would hold hanging file folders until end of year last year when I was trying to store everything away. My classroom has one wall that is all low cabinets and the other side all high cabinets built in, buy those crates fit in them! Looooove!
I love the idea for storing student school supplies! I’m about to start teaching Kindergarten and I worry that if I leave the supplies on the table all day it will be really tempting for them to play with them. So I think only having things on the tables that they need will be really, really helpful! Thank you so much for making a video like this. It was so helpful and I hope you post an updated version soon!
I’ve just gotten my own classroom and started setting it up today. I go through those exact organisational problems. ESPECIALLY PAPER FLOW!!! Thank you so much, this was incredibly helpful!
I am a huge fan of the Dollar Tree. I literally go there weekly for inspiration. They are often changing their containers and colors. When I started I only had a few, now I have a pretty sizable collection in the colors I need.
I am in school to become a teacher and stumbled upon your channel. I think we are organizing soul mates. I'm so glad I found your channel. I'll have to go back and watch your past videos. Thanks for doing this!
i am a 3rd grade teacher as well, and a thing i do is a supplies rolling cart/caddy. it really helps because i have 4 tables, with 4 shelves on my cart. they are seperated between tables and it has helped so muh with my organization! this helped me a lot! thanks a bunch :)
Love all your videos! For my anchor charts, I have a hamper (no lid) and I roll them and put a rubber band to hold it on both ends. On the outside (on the top), I put a label describing what it is (ex. ELA-Main Idea). You can color code the labels by subject for easy access. Hope this helps someone.
Just came here from Episode 2 of the new teacher series. All I can say is THANK YOU. This is very helpful for my nervous anxious self. So scared to not have control of my classroom and your organization videos, labels, tips, and really all of your videos are so much help!
Great ideas Shelley! I'd know labeling is a true game changer for me. I have cubbies inside my classroom and the ones my students don't use, I use for storage and hang a curtain over it, so you don't see all the stuff! I have also used tall laundry baskets to hold posters. Keep up the great work! Third grade is the best! :)
How do your classroom jobs work?? Do you randomly assign students to a new job or do they get to pick their own jobs? And how long do they have that job for? I remember when I was in elementary school, we had our jobs for a week, but I’m just curious about how you delegate jobs in your own classroom. Absolutely love the new intro & all the amazing organizational tips you shared!! Your videos are so great :)
Love your videos!! I just got hired for a third grade position for next year (which will be my first year teaching) and I find your videos so helpful!!
Thank you so much for all of your wonderful suggestions. I am in a very small classroom at a small school, so this will be quite interesting, but I'm up for the challenge. Thanks again. Have a great school year !!! :)
Sometimes I wonder why I didn't do that first rather than my actual organization (A MESS), but that idea of tub for each "sbject/theme" is amazing ! So easy to get every year !
Hi, I loved your video!. Where can I get the clear file holders? and how did you make the colored paper prints "labels" (need to copy, admin misc, teacher resources) LOVED IT
TFS!! As a daycare provider I struggle with organizing the arts and crafts and library. I understand about labeling because it truly helps. This video was full of ideas I can implement.
I love that you have their tabled supplies on the counter and have the team caption go get supplies because in the classroom I do practicum in, its an absolute mess having their table/individual supplies on their tables is a wreck
I just stumbled upon your channel and love your organization for you I.B. units! That is perfect! We are starting our second year of candidacy? I was seriously stressing over organization, because I felt so lost this first year in I.B.
For student supplies, usually each student has their own pencil pouch with scissors, crayons.... I do keep class supplies in hand for those that forget them or run out that day. Yes, I love the teacher tool box for all that little miscellaneous stuff. Your anchor charts on pants hangers is such a good idea! Where did you get the clear bins that you put on the wall?
Next year is my second year so I am looking forward to trying some of this out! This year was survival and unfortunately I just didn’t have time to organize. This summer will be an organization party to make my life easier!! Also, I am at an IB school as well!! Do you happen to have any videos on implementing that into your day?? I would LOVE to hear more
You can store headphones on a curtain rod so the cords hang down and don't get pulled out of the ear pieces from wrapping, we have loved that in my 2nd grade room!
Hi Shelley, thank you for sharing the organization in your classroom!! It's really effective!! As I told you before, I got lots of tips and ideas from you👍👍 Keep it up!!😍
I teach 6th grade math and I have a ton of anchor charts. I use a wrapping paper holder from Walmart I roll up my anchor charts individually and then they all fit in the bin. It should fit in your tall closet that you hang yours in now. The bin is plastic and has a lid and it is wonderful
I use the multi-colored 10 drawer carts. Each student has a drawer for their supplies. The drawers are numbered so I can use them year after year. The drawers work great for folders, pencil pouches, math manipulative bags, login cards, and headphones.
I have been waiting for your video all day! Love your videos and all your incredible advice! I’m working on my teaching degree currently so this is super helpful!
I love your math curriculum organization! I have mine organized in my file cabinet and like you mentioned, it just doesn’t work for me. For student supplies, I also used to have caddies. This year I still have caddies but they only store glue sponges, whiteboards, and 2 crayons boxes(each filled with 2 boxes of crayons to share). Their pencils, eraser, dry erase marker, and dry eraser are in their own pencil pouch. Their pencil pouch stays on their table during the day and travels with them wherever they need it.(I have flexible seating) At the end of the day, it goes in their drawer.
How do your kids do guided reading like what does the process look like of how you implement guided reading into your classroom? Is there a certain time of day you do that like during your ela block or?
Oh my gosh! I love your new intro! When you walk into my classroom in my house, everything you will see came from IKEA! And my cousin Katie who’s a 2nd grade teacher in North Carolina got married last night!!! We both had fun last night together!!! 😍
Hello and thank you for your video! Would you mind sharing where you purchased the plastic "bins" for your math curriculum? (time, area/perimeter etc.) Thank you!!!
I have fell down the rabbit hole of watching teacher organization videos. Love you organization. Do you lock away your IEPs? You said you put them in your admin box.
Hello I just discovered your page and I love it so much.. I know it could help me a. Lot in organizing my classroom. Do you have soft copies of of your work?
I teach kindergarten at a daycare and the most annoying thing was figuring out how to organize student supplies. So I went to dollar tree and got cake pans (you’ll need two per table) and marbles and made a turntable. Then to label them I laid down colored paper in the pan and hot glued it, then I hot glued a bunch of plastic cups to the paper and use them to store crayons, markers, scissors, glue sticks, and pencils, we keep them on our art shelf and they don’t take up that much space. But it works because all the kids have access to what they need and if they can’t reach they just have to turn the pan. I found this idea on Pinterest btw.
For students supplies u can get those plastic three tear bins and put them next to each group and that can have there supplies and even if there more space other stuff like papers
How do you organize your student centers? I have zero cabinets or counter space to have trays out for students to come pick up the papers they need. Also how do your students turn their papers in? I finally invested in a 5 shelf desk organizer for homework and class work turn in
Thank you so much for this! I am a first year teacher and needing lots of help! Lol did you make your labels for your manipulatives bins? Or did you find them somewhere? I love that they have pictures with the words. I teach kindergarten and need to find some labels with pictures...
What reading curriculum do y’all use? I want to organize my leveled readers but not sure where to start. I have high, medium and low groups so not sure I should do tubs like you or by colors that represent high, medium and low. What ya think?
For the supply counter, are the materials assigned to students or just whoever is in the group? Do they have their own crayons? How do they deal with that? Do they take care of them as if they were theirs?
Shelley, how much would you say is a reasonable amount of money to invest into your first year classroom? Especially if you're straight out of college?
I would say wait and see what you get once you get in your classroom. Talk to mentor and team teachers to see what resources you have available before you spend anything. If you do have to spend your own money, be sure to keep it simple and make a list of the essentials. Don't buy before you have a specific need for it, otherwise you will buy things you end up not using. Keep receipts of things bought for your class for tax purposes (some states have tax credits for money spent by teachers up to a certain amount), and make/keep an updated list of things you bought with your own money, in case you decide to move classrooms or districts later on.
Make sure you hit the Dollar Tree stores early! They have awesome resources for teachers! Teachers Pay Teachers have great free or very inexpensive resources too.
The three-tier shelf for the supplies is a good idea BUT.. BUT it will become hectic and always a mess trust me. I interned in a kindergarten class for 4 months and they used the three their organizer and it worked for their papers and journals, but they fiddled with the caddie alot and the inside was always messy.
In my classroom each student has a three ring binder pencil zip pouch zippy tied upside down (zipper down) to the legs of their chair. Each of my students have crayons (in a small crayon box that claps close from dollar tree; not an actual crayon box), a pair of scissors, a glue stick, a small cup of playdoh, and gel writing pad. We will add stuff as the year goes on and we use more items.
For school supplies, each student has a pencil box w/crayons, markers, colored pencils, glue stick, pencils underneath desk in basket. Next test I’m going to add individual pencil sharpeners.
As a 32 year veteran teacher, I just want to let you know how much I appreciate your videos and your humble attitude. You have such a positive vibe and contagious energy that inspires me. So thank you! 👏😁❤️

I'm not even a teacher but I honestly love watching you and your videos ❤❤
Tia Fisher same here !

I love ♥️ the student book bins! The Leaning Tower of Pisa scenes across many a desktop drives me crazy!! I’m so glad I watched this.
This video help me a lot. I love the shoe rack and the filing system. It will surely make things much easier for me . Thanks once again!
The hanging files and the magnetic files is what made me give a thumbs up. I am setting a reminder to come back to this over the summer.
I‘m studying to be a teacher right now, so THANK YOU🍀 I think that can reeeaally help me in 1-2 years🙈
You were so helpful! I’m going into my second year next year and I am also moving to a different classroom. Thank you sooo much for sharing this!!!
Love all your videos! For my anchor charts, I have a hamper (no lid) and I roll them and put a rubber band to hold it on both ends. Can you post a picture of this? I can’t visualize it, but it sounds like a great idea.
Great ideas. I'm in the process of organizing children's church and this is a great help. Thank you!
I'm a new subscriber. I'm a teacher and I just started my channel. Your channel is a huge inspiration.
I am a freshman business major but I still love your videos!!! Each one is better and better!!!!
Just came here from Episode 2 of the new teacher series.

Wow!! You're so organized for such a new teacher!!! Nice job!!!
Thank you so much for this video. I'm gonna start my first year of teaching in the fall and this is exactly what I need.
Could you do a video on how you do your guided reading lessons? First year teacher struggle is real with guided reading...
Totally!
Thought this may help you. :) I find that Anna DiGilio has great content to help with guided reading. ua-cam.com/channels/kGDwje-7gRQddXIEbnUYew.html

Ashley Riehm Congratulations!! I think you will love it! 3rd grade is my favorite to teach!
Love your classroom. You dedication can be clearly seen. Can anyone tell me, where I can find those cute fonts?
Thank you so much for all of your wonderful suggestions. I am in a very small classroom at a small school, so this will be quite interesting, but I'm up for the challenge. Thanks again. Have a great school year !!! :)

This is just soooo much paper. Everything is online here in Australia. I have about 1/10th of the amount of paper you have! Good job organising it!
A very useful video! May God bless you! Warm greetings from Romania!

Me too! I'm benge watching!
I know it’s been there for a few videos now, but I love your new intro!
Love this!! I am stressing over the dripping glue in the back. I actually told your video about it!! 😂

Great tips and ideas, thanks so much!!!
Fantastic ideas! I love that all of your baskets match the room. 😄💕
I love your supply bins labels ( in the teacher cabinet) Is that something you sell? I suck at creating and those are so easy to read & simple.
Try teacherpayteacher.com there's several versions!

Thanks for the tips! I’ve never thought of hanging them up in my coat closet.
How do you make the labels? What program do you use for the fonts?
Update: Nvm I found the video of you explaining all of that.
love this, really helpful. Is st patty's day an American spelling thing or an error? Patty is a girl's name, Paddy is short for Patrick
Wow. My classroom could never fit a quarter of that but it's fab.
Love this video! Where in Nor-Cal are you from? I'm attending Chico State. Cant wait to see more of your videos!
Thank you so much! Great video!
For the supply counter, are the materials assigned to students or just whoever is in the group? Do they have their own crayons? How do they deal with that? Do they take care of them as if they were theirs?
I love the new intro!!!
really helpful ideas!
Thanks so much for your tips!
Do you have a new intro/brand? Or have I just now noticed it?! Great classroom organization that works for you and can for others.
I just created the intro! I figured it was well over due lol
Your camera is very good: the pictures are very clear.

Meant next year
Great tips! Thank you!
Do you have a link to the bins that you use to organize your IB curriculum?
Did you make the labels for the math manipulatives tubs or do you have a link?
Awesome tips thanks ❤️
Classroom roles saved my life lol
