  • Telecommunications expert Paul Budde says Telstra’s “underlying issue” is big tech moving into telecommunications.
This follows the announcement of Telstra cutting 2,800 jobs this year.
“The underlying issues of course are that the telecommunications industry revenue is rather flat,” Mr Budde told Sky News Business Editor Ed Boyd.
“So you really need to start looking at massive changes in order to get your company ready for the future.
“There are so many changes happening and Telstra is basically outbid by the major big tech companies that are moving faster and faster into the telecommunications area.
“It’s facing the fact that the margins are slim, there’s not much growth in it, profits are under pressure … and that’s why you see this rather dramatic cut in employees.”
