Jumittaja 06 critical hits were based off speed in gen 1. Because razor leaf has a high critical hit ratio, they combined to almost guarantee a critical hit. And I believe the actual ratio is 99.6%. Same for slash with Persian.
SilverX UmbreonX Basically the formula for crit% in these games is [Base Speed]/(64). Note that this applies for moves with a “high critical hit ratio” such as crabhammer, slash, and-you guessed it- Razor leaf. With the examples of moves above if a Pokémon’s base speed is over 64 they will always crit. Also note that this ignores leveling up/stat boosts because it is BASE speed. (from the question at 2:07) Here's why Red's hat goes from red to blue when you start a battle: on the gameboy color, there's one palette for backgrounds (in this case, shades of blue) and one palette for sprites (in this case, shades of red). Because Red's hat passes over the opponent, it has to be rendered with sprites instead of background tiles, at least for the animation. When they settle down, they switch to rendering it with background tiles for whatever reason. Bear in mind that on the original gameboy this is seamless because it's all monochrome, and on the super gameboy you can only assign different palettes to different regions of the final screen, not to sprites as opposed to backgrounds.
1:06:05 The reason you outspeed it here is because of the Badge Boost glitch. Each badge in Gen 1 boosts a different stat for your pokemon by 12.5% every time you send it out to battle. To answer Ant's question, despite how late it is, in Erica's gym the Victribell used poison powder on your bellsprout every turn because the AI is programmed to use a "super effective" move whenever possible and it only looks at your pokemon's primary typing. Since Bellsprout is Grass first it used the poison move every turn without exception.
I think it’s funny. Ant went full team instinct and mystic. No training, no moltres. Just catching and using Pokémon as is and planning the route out. Well played.

Just so anyone who watches this and looks at the comments 4 years after the video is posted. Brock has 5 Full Heals for both Geodude AND Onix, meaning 10 total Full Heals, so poisoning it isn't that good of a strategy. Plus after 6 def buffs on Geodude, Poison Sting would 'Miss' 100% of the time (unless it's a crit) because of a bug that happens when a move that would do 1 damage is double resisted, it will result in a miss.
i'm fairly certain that's commonplace in gen 1. i had that abcd thing happen to me on my physical copy of blue on my game boy, so it might've just been a placeholder sprite

1:00 Pokemon Lets Go was confirmed back in the day. Also, the first battle is almost 100% guaranteed win if you use the potion that is in your PC from the start ;o)
I just finished doing a run of this mod... Honestly, up until Misty it's pretty hard... But it gets SOOOOO much easier after that. I just caught a whole bunch of Bellsprouts on route 24 to beat Misty and a Dugtrio in Diglett Cave to beat Surge (My plan was to catch a whole bunch of Diglett, but I guess I just got lucky) and then a whole bunch of Doduo near the bike track west of Celadon and taught them fly to beat Erika, used both Snorlax's to defeat Koga... Then after Koga the game got way too easy. I flew to Cerulean to go to the Power Plant and caught Zapdos, then travelled to the Seaform Islands to catch Articuno and then the rest of the game was a breeze. I still caught Moltres, though. Only semi difficult part after getting the birds was Agatha, but still took care of her easily. Brock was well and truly the hardest part of this run... I was expecting more of a challenge. :(
I wonder if they actually added the bike road thing intentionally just in case there was a kid who couldn’t read persisting because they didn’t know better.
At 35:50 he keeps using poison powder because the AI sees that Mr.Bikuu is a grass type, but it doesn't think much about the second type. So it uses poison power.
Ohh ok. I thought you were going to kill your own Pokemon with recoil damage at the end of every battle to avoid getting experience. This is much simpler.
43:00 Re: never entering a pokemon center. AFAIK there is a PC in every daycare and there are a couple bugged PC's in gen 1 so you could actually do this and still curate a team
The glitch discovery when Ant couldn't read reminded me about how I first played Pokemon (and also couldn't read). My older sister told me some of the moves names, but I kept mashing A too fast for her to properly read it and she ended up misreading Erdbeben (=Earthquake in German) as Erdbeeren (=Strawberries) and Psychokinese (=I think you can figure this one out) as Psychokeks (=Psycho-cookie).
That victreebell was constantly trying to poison powder your bellsprout because you're a grass type, weak to poison, and the trainer had "good" ai which makes it always use a super effective move if there's one to use. But of course, grass mon are immune to powder moves so it couldn't do anything. Theoretically with enough pp you could do it at level 1 in that case. Gotta love gen 1

The victrebell thing happened because in gen one poison is super effective against grass and the ai in red blue yellow thinks that it needs to use a super effective move aways, but he doesn’t account for the poison typing in bellsprout
In Blue and Red there was an AI bug that kept spamming attacks that are strong against your type... even if they're non-damaging or have no effect at all, like Poison Powder xD
Or agilit y
or barrier
BRUH your story of metapod vs onix gave me such nostalgia! That was the most accomplished I'd ever felt in Pokemon, when I had to resort to the same thing and it worked!
oh boy, an hour long. This's gonna be a hell of a ride bois. (grabs popcorn)
I never realized there was a quiz in Blain's gym, I always fought all of the trainers - my pokemon were always overleveled
I had a really stupidly frustrating day today, but you have no idea how quickly my mood turned around when I saw that you uploaded tonight. I loveeee all of the crazy challenges you do, so thanks for being great :)

So basically you're just playing unpatched Pokemon Black?
elaborate
@@biblee9804 I'm not 100% sure about this one, so feel free to correct me but a rom version of pokemon black, there was this thing where you wouldn't/couldn't gain exp, so when you fought cheren and Bianca first, you didn't get exp, likewise when you fought N in accumula town, you got no exp from beating him. I read it was to do with a faulty/nodded emulator but I don't think so. This was from my experience so that's why I'm not sure this was the reason. But still, I didn't realise until after my fight with N when I realised I had won against that level 7 pokemon with my level 5 snivy and still got no exp lmao.
Damn I talk too much
@@aihwhejskskkksjdjfjncbs same with Pokémon black 2 yeah, a unpatched file won't gain exp.
Mama Diepie wait does that mean my Pokémon black and black 2 roms wont work? I got them off vimms lair and was hoping to play them after platinum
@@hockeykings3793 if it's an unmatched USA version, probably not, but it wont hurt to test. I mean 5 minutes max. There are others you can find that are some of the first results that come up
Scariest thing in this challenge is the last rival fight, the Alakazam in gen 1 is super broken
actually, no. The scariest fights are probably brock, route 3 as a whole and misty, other than that, the challenge isn't even hard.
E: okay, this is obviously assuming that you came up with the "proper" strategies for the run.
Glad to see you haven’t forgotten about the man. I still have the clip of his origins saved on my phone
ah, a no pokecenter run. more aptly titled the american healthcare run.
accurate
Unova and Alola, but accurate to the places that in real life that they were based on.
Too real, tho
A critical oof.
Uhhh, isn't this the No Exp run for Pokemon Red/Blue?
Pokemon challenge runs are by far some of the craziest things I've seen online, but this has to be the craziest. Definitely worth subscribing for.

THE MAN: i am the greatest in the world
ANT: we'll see about that
ANT proceeds to OKO most of THE MAN's team
Gonna be honest this was NOT what i expected somehow - in fact i had no idea where this was going - and I LOVE the idea! It was so creative. I've gotten addicted to watching challenge runs recently, and this one was so unique and really stood out between all the 'can this or that pokemon beat insert game'. Definitely hoping to see more of you! The no-Pokemon center run sounds amazing!
31:58 - Next time he's going to say: "Wait, Pokemon is short for Pocket Monsters?"
Blizzard's accuracy is high and Articuno was kinda OP in Gen 1. The Special split nerfed its special attack and Blizzard's accuracy was nerfed as of Gen 2.
Coming from Fire Emblem, I'm curious about a 0 growths run, where you do get evolutions and new moves but no level up stats.
People have done runs like that. A lot of the time they just rely on busted pre promotes or promotion bonuses.
Ooo, never even imagined that before. Hi from another Fire Emblem fan!
Quality content. I assumed by the title that it would've been clickbait, thinking it was gonna be impossible. But this is good shxt lol. New sub!
if it was impossible its not clickbait. The answer would be no
I'm sad you didn't call Articuno, "ArtiShuno"
That was being heavily thrown around but Shu didn’t like it
Shu no-
The funniest thing. As a kid i didnt know blaines gym was a trivia game. I didnt know what to do so i just talked to the trainers and fought them without trying the questions
Smallant: Shu will take it out.
Also Smallant: Shu will take it out.
"Dugtrio out here diggin' some graves" lmfaoooo
I think it’s funny. Ant went full team instinct and mystic. No training, no moltres. Just catching and using Pokémon as is and planning the route out. Well played.
Smallant1: beats a Pokemon game without exp
Pirated copy of Black and White 2: wait that’s illegal.

Everyone: just grind exp if u want to easily beat gen1 games
Ant: and I took that personally
THE MAN about to use Venusaur. Will I change? Ya, Shu will take it out
Just so anyone who watches this and looks at the comments 4 years after the video is posted.
56:03 Whoa! Did anyone see that weird ABCD sprite?
i'm fairly certain that's commonplace in gen 1. i had that abcd thing happen to me on my physical copy of blue on my game boy, so it might've just been a placeholder sprite
Honestly you are one of the best and most interesting streamers I have ever seen. And your speedruns are also really entertaining! I don't see that many entertaining speedruns and have never seen any Streamer that keeps the whole Stream consistently fun. So thanks for all these fun streams and videos and I hope you'll continue makin these great Streams for a long long time!
That moment when Ant threw away some Carbos and Protein during Safari Zone to make space in inventory...when he could have just sold it for the same price of a nugget =X.
Also, to make Erika easier, he could just have got the Eevee then evolved it with a water stone, teach it Ice Beam with the TM 13, buy one x-speed and BAM, spamming ice beam would obliterate her team.
Couldn’t have used them?
Or turned it into a flareon
@@glowstonelovepad9294 Flareon in gen 1 learns fire type moves at level 34,and its not even ember. Its fire spin...at least it works like wrap in gen 1. No,how Flareon REALLY works is getting the tm for double edge, teaching it,and then...well you got a powerhouse that hits like a DRAGONITE.I used one in yellow, and it almost never used a fire type move.
Tbh i always thought that Abra was smoking a cig and holding a bowl, turns out it was just shadows and a tail. Abra is now ruined for me.
basically, you sand attack brock and route 3, then you catch clefairy in mt. moon and evolve it which carries you to dugdrio and then you use dugtrio to get to zapdos (and maybe articuno as well if you are patient enough to catch it).
You're so polite when you asked me to subscribe, I realized I had no real reason to object. Thanks for the content!
The comment in twitch chat that said “how did it take this long” pissed me off lol. Let’s see you do it and how long it would take you. I felt like 8 hours was actually a really good pace.
@Gavin James did u even read the comment
I mean smallant isn’t beating it to beat it, he’s doing it to have fun so people shouldn’t really care. Ya know how boring the content would be if he was hyper focused just trying to do it as fast as possible (yeah ik he does other speed runs but just let him do what he wants).
That was entertaining as hell. I think it was actually harder in the first portion of the game than the later. Nice stuff dude.
Please do the other generations as well, this video was a lot of fun and your editing was AMAZING.
SmallAnt: I’m afraid you can’t level up during this challenge.
Me: (Puts Rare Candy into the sixth item slot) Observe.
This man beat the whole game in 7 hours, I can't even beat victory road in 7 hours...
Joseph Hollis That’s what happens why you take time leveling
Those Dugtrios are so OP for such early game... Such a random level jump lol
1:00 Pokemon Lets Go was confirmed back in the day. Also, the first battle is almost 100% guaranteed win if you use the potion that is in your PC from the start ;o)
not like winning that first battle would mean anything to him anyway.
Quick question: How did you modify the rom? I want do try it in another gen. But I have literally no idea how to do it. Pls help.
@@matthistetens252 There's a program called Lunar IPS that attaches patches to Roms. Have a look at it.
I wonder if they actually added the bike road thing intentionally just in case there was a kid who couldn’t read persisting because they didn’t know better.
Damn, this brings back memories of beating the game with basically one dugtrio. So OP.
Dugtio and Zapdos the MVP's
At 35:50 he keeps using poison powder because the AI sees that Mr.Bikuu is a grass type, but it doesn't think much about the second type. So it uses poison power.
Always naming the rival “The Man” makes me feel like I’m having a fever dream because I can never tell if this is a stream I’ve seen or not lol
Every time i read bansapink on screen my brain sees is as "banana spunk"
Cannot unsee
I like how Onix is perfectly balancing on the T at 8:51.
So sad I was gone while you were doing this, but I’m ready for highlights!
Ohh ok.
I thought you were going to kill your own Pokemon with recoil damage at the end of every battle to avoid getting experience.
This is much simpler.
Only pokemon with explosion is the other option
so many of these challenges would be so screwed if gen 1 AI wasn't so damn terrible hahaha
Nice vid man, cool idea :)
At 56:01, when he digs out, once he leaves the ground the Red sprite turns into "ABCD"
This is the Pokemon equivalent of Fire Emblem 0% growth runs

I felt that. Definitely gonna stick around XD

Re: never entering a pokemon center.
40:15 Dropping that hot truth about UA-cam out of nowhere!
