  • This Moroccan chicken tagine with couscous is THE BEST and EASIEST TAGINE recipe EVER! Not only is it because CHICKEN TAGINE WITH COUSCOUS recipe is one of the most beloved classic dish of the Moroccan Cuisine, this recipe is delicious easy and only takes 30 minutes. Not only will you learn How to make moroccan chicken tagine but as a bonus you will even learn how to plate the best looking chicken tagine to make the whole thing spectacular :)
    In a nutshell, this chicken tagine recipe is a new twist on the chicken tagine with preserved lemons ( BTW you can totally use fresh lemons!!) : you will not need any tagine or couscous maker: only an oven a bowl, that is it!!

    Moroccan Chicken tagine RECIPE
    6 pieces of upper chicken thigh with skin and bone ( you can use chicken breast but it will be a bit dryer)
    1 onion
    3 Carrots ( you can also add Turnips & Zucchini with sweet potatoes and pumpkin )
    One fresh lemon cut In 6 wedges or 2-3 preserved lemons cut In 2-3 pieces each ( to form wedges)
    Fresh checked Coriander & Parsley ( to decorate /optional)
    You can also add chickpeas about 1 cup or 170g
    4-6 garlic cloves
    1/2 cup 90g pitted green olives
    1tsp or 2 g cumin
    1tsp 2.6g cinnamon
    1/2 tsp 1 g ginger ( optional)
    3 tbsp 135g honey
    Hot pepper ( optional)
    1 tsp or 0.6g of dried coriander
    1tsp 6 g salt
    3 tbsp 40g olive oil
    OPTIONAL in the chicken tagine
    dried prunes
    Apricots
    Pistachios
    For the COUSCOUS
    500g 2 3/4 cups Medium couscous or wheat semolina
    800ml 3 1/3 cups of water
    1-2 tsp 6-12 g salt ( adjust to taste)
    3 tbsp 40g argan or olive oil
    1 TBSP lemon juice
    OPTIONAL:
    raisins
    baked blanched almonds

    I made this with frozen chopped butternut squash, frozen chopped onions, 3 cubes of frozen chopped garlic, and lemon juice concentrate, instead of the lovely fresh ingredients. I also took the skin off the thighs. Served with rice. Still absolutely divine thank you so much for sharing.

    I made this Moroccan chicken the other day and it was lovely. My kids loved it too , so that will definitely be making another appearance in our house. We are going to Morocco this year so om trying to introduce more Moroccan flavours into our food. I'm looking forward to trying more recipes.

      @@frumitup I had it with flavoured cous cous and they had it with rice. My eldest boy asked if we can have it every day! I added orange bell pepper, celery and shallots to the pan under the chicken and it was lovely stirred into the cous cous too

    You are not alone!
    I think I can easily adapt this to low(er) carb by using my homemade honey flavored liquid allulose. The carrots are a little carby, but I can either sub out for turnips, or adjust my other carbs for the day to accommodate my macros.
    Serve over riced cauliflower and call it good.
    Yum!

      To answer your question: absolutely you can leave out the cinnamon! You can add powdered ginger/ cardamom/ turmeric!

    J'ai l'habitude d'utiliser la couscoussière (keskas ou barma en marocain) car mon mari et mes enfants préfèrent le couscous ainsi cuit 😂 c'est vrai que ça prend du temps mais j'aime leur faire plaisir ❤
