  • This is a short video talking about the different electrode holder types, my experience with them and some thoughts to help you pick the best one for you.
When stick welding, the electrode holder (rod holder/stinger) is the main thing you will be interacting with while welding. All of them work, but if you are getting a new one any way for some reason, you may as well get one you like.
    Any support is appreciated. Thanks!

I have the 400amp Berger from HF and it has been holding up for a long time. You're right about the screw top, when you're working and changing rods a lot, it's a no go.

i just bought the berger for my old miller buzz box and its pretty nicely made the inside is solid brass handles 400 amps and its easy to drop the rod with gloves on plus it was only 12 bucks with a coupon. i never tried any of the other styles than the spring clamp ones so far i like the berger the best of all the ones on my machines

@@steeveejee4647 Mine takes a little effort to squeeze open but it holds the rods tight. It's a great stinger, glad you like it.

I have been using that Lenco screw style stinger for 4 years now. I installed it as an upgrade on my cheap Chinese welder. What a difference in comfort and rod holder it made!!! I upgraded both the stinger and the ground clamp and it really improved the "feel" (i know subjective) of the machine when arc welding. I tend to do a scratch start instead of the jab method. This just feels more natural when in an awkward position while welding.

I tried to like the screw type holder but I just couldn't get used to it. It's just ingrained in me to burn a rod, dump it with the spring clamp, load and repeat. The little delay with the screw type just started to drive me crazy. Lol Great, thorough vid --thanks for sharing!! I'm new and really enjoying your channel.

Exactly, I thought I would love the screw tops, but it will drive you crazy for sure.

I had no idea that the screw type was even a thing; I really like the Lenco LT-250 (2nd from the left).

That's probably my favorite, overall electrode holder.

Don't get a cheap screw on top, they don't hold well and they get HOT!

Yes, for the electrode holder, you just need to choose the right material, such as brass or copper. The rest you can choose any type you like.

Favorite is probably the twist top, its more natural if i am swapping hands alot or need to get into really odd positions
Dont much use lever types, its annoying they arent ambidextrous.

@@vorsprung2330 The diameter of the Lenco Twister is 31mm at the handle and the head is around 36mm. I just realized, I think you were asking the diameter of two of them. If I get a chance, I'll measure the other.

also, with screw types. sometimes if you burn a rod too far, you ain't getting that shit out without some pliers.
