It's still ironic that they picked and shifted all the blame on the one guy that made everything work because their egos were too massive to fit their britches. And again, the ones that win in the end is the little guy, while the big fish drown with their collective prides.

They literally do that all the time in any business. They do it cause the guy generally does not do anything wrong therefore it seems suspicious and easy for a company to say "he never takes responsibility for his actions and always thinks he is right" leading management to basically go along with the schtick thinking he's just blaming it on other people. People should get rewarded for being a worker without a record not punished.

Worked on overnight cap 3 at walmart. The day shift managers used to blame me for when the zamboni floor scrubber got broken. So my supervisor of my maintenance team, who knew it wasn't me btw breaking this thing, had me keep off of it and only had three people he had authorized for it to be used during the overnight shift. Him, and two other older employees. Turned out it was one of the day shift managers who kept taking it outside to scrub the front sidewalk area and that was what caused it to keep breaking (cues johnny cab eye roll).

And only one who knew who to handle the dot matrix printers orders were printed out on. They abused me for thinking my excessive sales were someone stealing from other salespersons. Confined me to one area where I just read books for a month, complained above them, then they wanted me to train 2 others to do what I do. Walked out. Funny thing is next job, one of the 2 books I read on sales, that guy had retired and was in seminar how to be good salesperson. I wished I had book for him to sign.

I ran CMM inspection machines for almost ten years where I worked. Once you got the part (aircraft engine rotating parts) loaded onto the machine and the program set up and started, you could sit down and do whatever until the program was done. Then you checked the printout, highlighted any problems if any and sent the part to whichever waiting area it needed to go, either ‘rework’ or the next operation.

@@fabimre heard a somewhat similar story of how one Soviet worker caused a crash of two planes with just a knife (An-22 crashes in 1970s).
Long story short: he was working at an aircraft plant and was responsible for making the final touches on the propeller blades before it were to be installed. He needed to remove the residue material at the base of the blade with a special plastic knife. But the worker was physically weak to effectively wield this tool, so he started using a steel shoemaking knife that caused almost invisible micro-scratches (0,3 mm deep) that quickly developed into cracks and made the blade to snap mid-flight, causing two crashes in the same year. Further investigation found similar flaws on the other propellers that were made in this factory.

Fun little mini story. I had a similar job at one point in time. I worked for a food manufacturing plant at one point in time. I also work in IT. Well we had a Zebra printer near the end of one of our production lines. For those who do not know, those are printers that print out labels to be be attached to things like pallets of completed and boxed up product to go to store A, store B, etc. But that was all this printer did. Pallet of product gets ready to be shipped, click button on the computer, print label, attach label to pallet, scan label into system. Put pallet on truck until truck is full. Rinse, lather, repeat.
Well, this one printer was an older model. It still worked, but it had a bit of glitch. If the printer is turned off and then immediately turned back on, sometimes (not every time, but sometimes) it would reset the printer to factory defaults. I'm not sure why, but it was something that they had to deal with. We even put up a sign that said, "If you have to turn the printer off, wait 30 seconds before you turn it back on." But when the printer went to factory defaults, the printer wouldn't work with our program and had to be configured. This happened often enough that I had setup a procedure for this. Which was the config was backed up on my work laptop. So I would go out, plug in a console cable from the laptop to the printer. Load up the printer's configuration program. Click restore. And boom done. It took longer to hook up the console cable then it did to fix the printer.
But unlike the OP in this story. My company understood and appreciated when I needed to get called in. They had a policy that if I was called while on call, even if it was a five second fix, that was guaranteed to be a minimum of two hours of OT. If I had to go on site, it was guaranteed to be a minimum of 4 hours of OT. The pay was a bit below industry standard, but it was still good pay. And 4 hours at time and a half for 10 minute commute and 5 minutes of work wasn't a bad deal. My coworker hated being on call, so I usually was always on call. My thought on that was, "You don't want free money. That's fine by me." The company didn't mind paying that OT, because every hour that a line couldn't run would result in $10,000 - $50,000 of lost revenue depending on the product. So my 4 hours of OT more then paid for itself.
Anyways, sorry if I rambled a bit long there. Just thought I'd share my similiar story, albeit without Igor and a company that actually valued my employment.

I know the feeling. My friend worked for a couple of years at a Smith and Nephew facility, they make all sorts of implants, and the benefits were really good for the US even tho the supervisors (from his POV) were kinda shitty. Management didn't care what their co-pay for your medical bills were, they wanted you on the floor making them money. Mind you he worked on the CNC machines that made the implants, so loosing a worker meant that a line wasn't producing nearly as much due to the shifts being 12 hrs. So when he got T-boned at an intersection and landed himself in the ER, they had someone there at the ER 2 hrs later ready to give the go ahead on whatever treatment he needed, no matter the cost. As long as he could get back on his feet as soon as possible and to prescribe him whatever meds he wanted. They did not care because he made them hundreds of thousands of dollars per shift. 20k in medical expense was nothing compared to what he made the company. When you make enough money for the company or the employer, they will bail you out of jail so you can show up for work, hire lawyers on your behalf so you don't have to show up for court, rent vehicles for you to use if yours breaks down, pay whatever co-pay on your medical bill that isn't covered by insurance, etc so that you can show up to work with no issues, mentally and physically.

    • @BenderRodríguez-p3e
      @BenderRodríguez-p3e 7 місяців тому

@@Steamrick Why not replace it with the same Zebra model printer? you might ask. To many companies, when there is something that works and mgmt is competent, you try not to mess with it because of the potential knock on effects. Ie when you're switching over to the new one, you can encounter issues during setup. To the companies its not worth the risk of a line being down and backing up production as in a factory, time = Big Money. Production being impacted can cost the company a few thousand to tens of thousands of dollar per hr its not in use/making them products. Granted this seems like a simple swap but its cheaper to just pay the guy times and a half or OT as the increase in payroll is just a rounding error to a large company. The cost is easily absorbed, negligible to the company bottom line, and frankly not a priority that they want to focus on(yea it has its quirks that requires a tech to come look at it every now and then but its an easy fix and it'll work for another month or 2 without issue)

He told me about how a team of people were supposed to inspect a turbine before it’s departure the next morning. Apparently, while putting the components together, somebody put a very expensive piece on backwards and the entire turbine had to be taken apart again. Also, since the piece was on backwards, it didn’t fit right and got damaged while being removed, so they had to order a replacement part. Yeah the customer was not happy about that one. Ohh yeah Siemens. That Chaos you described is even worse than you think.
The Company i work for is contracted by Siemens. Everything we built has to be exact to their Plans. And i dont just mean measurements.
There are 2 Big Parts where i need to use Duct Tape to strap a Piece of Wood under. That Piece of Wood needs to have certain Dimensions. And even the Duct tape has a whole 4 Page Report on Strength etc.
The Supplier for said Duct Tape changed the Colors .. .we got an Email and the threat of get send everything back (our costs ofc) because of the Color Change.
I once put a tiny piece of tape on an "special" Piece. Different length than normal. Which ofc means a different Mass Middle (important for forklift pickup). That tiny piece of tape was there to show where the Middle is. Again, emails, Pictures and Meetings of why that Tape is there.
And just 2 Weeks ago Siemens send back the prepackaged Bolts, Nuts and Washers. Why? Well the normal supplier couldnt send stuff because of Material Shortages. So we went with a different one. Same Nuts and Bolts, also certified, exact same Technical Data Sheet. Just a Different Brand. Siemens wasnt happy. So we are now waiting 2 Weeks till we get the Stuff from the original supplier to repack those bags and send them of to Siemens again.
Oh and last Month i got shown Pictures send by Siemens. For 25 Years we now built the X1 for them. For 25 Years we put the Label Sticker at the exact same Spot (yep there is a measurement for it on the Plans). Now Siemens doesnt want it there, its somehow our Fault, it needs to be 15cm lower.
Why? Well the current Placement means it cant be seen (QR Code therefore not be scanned) after they put whatever Parts on it. Since the Clamp of said unknown part is covering the Label.
And for those out there who know about Welding and what you can and cant achieve with it. Imagine a welded Cube. 4x4 Ground Plate, 6 Rods coming up (4 i nthe corner 2 in the middle) and on top of these Rods smaller Sheet Metal Pieces.
Siemens ordered those and told us we didnt meet the Measurements. Measurements in mm. How didnt we meet those? By 0.001mm. The fucking 3rd digit in the decimals. On a Welded Object. An Object that got ALOT of Heat.If you want it that precise than take a Block of Metal and get it to a CNC shop, not a Industrial Welding Company.

@@kaitan4160 Sounds like procurement with a company with the empire state building up their ass. I honestly don't know how they come to be so weirded out by such minute issues. I did a short stint at a contracting company for Texas Instruments and we were having issues sourcing components for a module to go into a weapons system. Why were we having issues? Well the part we were sourcing was a part from the mid 80s. The company was able to secure a large bulk stock from the original US manufacturer before they switch over production, they kept the line running for as long as possible while they retooled all their other machines to make newer, more profitable components. The line was the last one to be switched over and the company still has the parts in the original boxes in a climate controlled room. Well that stock was stating to run dangerously low and it was for a high expenditure 1 time use item. Que a 5 month binge of looking across every other website trying to find a reliable source of ancient components. Well we find one but its in China for a really niche hobby. We order a batch of 100 with specific demands and they pass with flying colors. Then we break the "good news" to TI, who then relay it to the DOD. And shit just goes wild from there. Apparently this was during when anything Made in China for the military was under scrutiny. A blank circuit board for the F-35 that was Made in China needed 3 senate hearings before it got an exemption!! Over fears of Chinese espionage and secret well hidden backdoors... its a blank circuit board with nothing on it... what back doors could possibly exist? Our component was to doing 2 functions, if A do B but if condition A isn't met do C. Very simple and we got shit for it because we were sourcing Chinese components and not Made in USA. The last US manufacturer that made such a component stopped in 1997, this is 2019. Who on earth are you going to convince to switch a profitable production line to now make a niche component that has since stopped production on US soil for 20+ yrs? for only 1 customer? Without shelling out tens of millions in inconvenience fees? Que meetings spanning 2 months of us trying to explain to both TI and the DOD of how unreasonable their request is and if that they don't like it, they can kiss good bye to the [x] weapons system because there was no we could source for components nor would there be any other suppliers of such a component. They said to fix it/ie find a solution to it and the solution was to do a complete redesign of the component to newer 90s components because there were still existing stock and US manufacturers making it. But that in it of itself was a shit show. They rejected more efficient designs using newer & more powerful components because it now left a 1.5" x .55" void that didn't know what to do with!!! FFS

I can definitely identify with your story. I too had a similar problem but on a much, much smaller scale. It did cause the company to close and several good friends who'd worked there for years lost pensions and such. Which caused them to file a class action suit and they got back about 50% of what they were due. The boss lost almost everything including his trophy bride, a.k.a. 'gold digger'. Sucks to be greedy and stupid.

A similar thing happened to me but on a much much smaller scale. The winders I fixed and maintained were made in the 1940's, 50's and 60's. I trained under a man that had been there since the late 50's. They tried to replace me with some one who flat out lied about their skills. Two weeks after I was gone he left. They could not find any who knew how to properly work on such old and outdated machines. That was the begining of the end for that mill. This was back in 1995.

I was in this position - the old boss retired and they brought in this feminist man-hater who immediately promoted all the women (don't get me wrong, they deserved it) and instantly began writing up the men to get rid of them (3rd write-up and you're fired with cause) - nice things like, she asked me how long it would take to do a job, I said 2 weeks, she said "you have until Friday"... Worked late every night, Friday at 5pm I walk into her office saying it's done (rushed and barely), and she says "I needed it by 4, you're written up". Needless to say I'd already seen the writing on the wall, but I started using vacation days to start interviewing... The 3rd time was coming into my office at 2pm on a Monday, "buy a plane ticket, you're going to California (another division) for 2 weeks"... Umm, I live alone, I have pets, I need to stop the mail, buy pet food, try to get someone to watch/feed my pets, kinda hard to do that in a day? Yeah, I know, too bad... I typed up a resignation letter that night - the next morning she asked if I had my ticket, I said no, and she launched into a tirade about how she was going to fire me... And I handed her my resignation - she didn't want to accept it, "I should fire you anyways" and I just said "let's see what HR says about that" (firing opens them to a lawsuit, taking my resignation doesn't).
I had the offer letter from the job I had lined up 2days later. 😁. Told them I was gonna give 2 weeks notice Friday, got paid out for my unused vacation, and basically had 3 weeks off in July and only lost a week of pay.
Two years later I'm getting messages on my machine daily - one of the things I supported that nobody else really had expertise in had broken, they desperately wanted my help - even saying they had budget to pay... I laughed and erased every message. Sorry, but this "dead wood" (heard she called us that after all the firings) would rather LMAO for a week+ of panic messages than help her.

On much smaller scales I've seen that type of thing several times in my career. The good old boys never want to admit they made a mistake and always try to sweep it under the rug. Pay someone 3x their salary to fix a problem? Nope. First, they're usually too arrogant to accept that someone else is that important, second they'll worry that the money will get noticed. The one thing corporations are good at is tracking money. But sometimes something too big to sweep under the rug happens and those tricks don't work - and then it all comes crashing down.

Fun things about the story from the build up part:
Turbine engine work in EU but big company from US: sounds like a repair station/manufacturer for jet engine small/private aircraft. Those stuff are calculated to the nearest .001 of cm or inch with less than .005 deviation (sorry if I'm wrong here, I'm currently still in school for AnP in US and 6 months away from finishing so I don't have actual field experience yet) You do not want to mess with those equipments as shrug your shoulders off if things go wrong horribly or not logging everything down as detailed as you can. Because anything that go wrong in aviation field from the smallest thing can cause catastrophic accident in a long way. Specially aircrafts that used for commercial or transportation purposes. I have no idea why would a company that OP worked with treat those issues like nothing, judging from work process go thru multiple stages of extreme measurement. This is why you avoid hiring someone as your family members without work ethic, doesn't care about a thing, unprofessionalism.

I have now taken a position to train employees as well as perform other duties. I have never lost sight of the simple fact I am expendable. Just like everyone else. No one person is greater than the entire sum. Not to mention all it takes to get sent packing Is one pimple face nephew with a attitude.
