I think one of the biggest workflow things that I think needs tweaked is you almost work right to left instead of left to right. So you’re taking input sources (on the right) and applying them to the channels (on the left). I would rather take them from left to right and not right to left. I think those being flipped would make it so much easier visually to follow. Since we read left to right it just is the natural way for our eyes to flow. At least to me. Still super excited to get my compact. Had the full sized Wing and it was way too cumbersome to maneuver myself for gigs, and I so just wanted a more compact version. And here we are now lol
Thank you Drew for your practical explanations. It's fun to follow your explanations and implement them in parallel on the console. We have learned a lot.
Very important question 🙋♀️. Is it possible to have several different mixes on the wing compact on the fly. Example. Let’s your playing uptempo song then at the push of a button you can have different effects or different mix for that next song. Are we there yet???
In my Behringer XR18, I have my main L/R turned off for my Beyerdynamic DT-797's headset microphone because I do not want to hear my voice through my speakers. What I did is I send my microphone channel to bus 3 and 4 which routes over to AUX Out 3 and 4 and is stereo linked in the bus. I can do my EQ in my bus 3 and 4 in order to get the headphone sounding right to me. So, I now I have my voice going to my headphone for direct monitoring, but I don't hear my voice through my speakers (my home theater speakers which is connected to my home theater receiver), which is what I want. As I use my XR18 as my audio interface, I have set my USB sends 1 as pre-fader with mute as I want the audio to go out regardless of what fader I set the mic's volume to. In Behringer Wing, I can do the same thing by going into Main Sends in the mic's channel, turn off Main Send 1, route the microphone to bus 2 which goes to outputs 3 and 4 (make sure it's turned on as the bus has the on/off button which is not in XR18), and since I want my voice to output to USB, I can setup the routing by going to Output, select USB Audio from the output group, and in Local In, I select my microphone (LCL 1) that's going to the USB Audio out. Is that how I set this up right? I only have the Wing-Edit in Linux and I do not have the hardware so I thought I might ask. And sure, the Behringer Wing is overkill, but having the hardware would be beneficial as it helps me to understand Behringer Wing better. I have my Behringer XR18 and I love it a lot. It's very compact and can fit in my suitcase which just about all of the digital mixers cannot.
I'm doing this with the AES50 ports on the back and I use an ethernet switch to connect them both to my cpmputer so I can use the Edit software and also go wireless.
I am considering getting one of these for use in marching band, as our mixer has been problematic. The only issue I have with the WING is with total channel count. 48 channels is not enough for us, but since it does 48 channels of stereo, does that mean that I can route things like drumset overheads L/R and essentially have two mic inputs taking up one channel? They could share EQ/FX. I would like to do similar things for two synths and some sample pads that will all be in stereo. If this is possible, then the 48 channels would be enough for us. Right now, we use 54 channels of our 64-channel mixer, but 8 of those are extra channels for stereo, and we only actually use 46 faders.
@@felicianomontoya also each processing channel can accept one main input and one alternate input (aasignable), which if you have two inputs that does not need to be used simultaneously, and require similar processing, that channel can just switch between those two inputs without much hassle!
I’m trying to follow along with you, but I don’t have the same connections. Do i just skip setting up my AES50A and stay local? I’m a drummer All i have is two main JBL SPEAKERS ALSO My Overheads ended up on 13/14. Is there something special using 7/8 that the other inputs wont do?
At first I didn't understand your question, but now I've been playing with Wing Edit in anticipation of getting a Wing... I think what you're talking about is how, when you select your input 13 and make it stereo, it auto-selects input 14 and then you also have channels 13 and 14, each stereo, each using input 13/14. That confused me; I found that I can turn off +1 Auto, then select (in your example) channel 14 and for input, select "None" and channel 13 will still show as stereo, with inputs 13 and 14. I like the ideas they have around routing, but the execution definitely seems cumbersome.
Is there a way to connect the P16 directly to the wing without using stage boxes? Can Behringer make that possible via any of the Ethernet ports at the back of the wing?
A floor monitor speaker. They're often wedge-shaped. We tend to call our speakers by less-distinguished names; subs are sometimes called "bass bins" (or even just "bins"), and when we talk about a quantity of speakers, we just refer to them as "boxes". If I'm deploying some speakers mounted on tripod stands, I might call them "boxes on sticks", etc.
A stereo channel still requires two inputs. The point of the Wing is that channels and inputs do not map 1:1. Digital consoles mostly mirror analog consoles in that a channel is a route from an input, through various processing, to a bus and an output. On the Wing, a channel is a separate concept from the input; it's the set of processing that we recognize from an analog (or other digital) console, distinct from the input that feeds it.
This patching workflow is of course deeply flawed. Completely confusing and mixing terminologies and GUI elements across differing features that does not correlate. A channel input should of course NEVER be referred to as an output destination. And patching windows should always be from -> to from left to right. You are unnecessarily confusing users, and yourselves. Nothing wrong with the functionality, so we will let this one slide 😂
Would be great to mix with automation on source channel so us musicians can just feed audio from a daw and do all our mixing and mastering on the console with fx and also do not mind paying for the tc finaliser plug-in on the 2 track recorder to offer Ai mastering and referencing eq match. Live mixers do not need this but us musician producer need it.
How about a basic video? Like a really really getting started video dealing with one channel. I am so so lost. Basic like just getting 1 Mic to work. Just the Mic and the wing. I cannot get my microphone to work or no reading single is coming out. And everything is new. Or just connecting your phone to hear audio play back. I’ve watched over 5 videos and still cannot get a single. Because everything I’ve watched y’all everywhere. Please. A simple getting started tutorial. You don’t say what kinda cards you need to record what’s recommended Please.
I tried doing a few basic videos you’ll find them on UA-cam I’m just like you but I found out the best way is just to push buttons but on this video for example when He gets to user signal I’m completely lost. The problem is he never listens he just keeps on making the videos the way he sees fit. He is a great asset but he doesn’t understand basic videos like you’re talking about. He assumes everybody knows more than what they really do

Agree. Complete design fail :)
We’ve been using the pro 6 , patching/routing is left to right. The corect way lol
I agree with you this is the most confusing part of this mixer if they flip that around it would be more intuitive.

Great video to better understand this wonderful beast. Very helpful. Keep it up!
Great Video. You should do a basic video on how to set up a click track for drummers and in ear monitoring just using wing compact and drums.

Can you please do a video on how to connect two or more Behringer Wings together like in a FOH/Monitor/Broadcast environment?

inserting fx on busses instead of having fx returns makes a lot of sense..... we'll see if I can remember it though :)
Great video, can you please do how to use the midi on the wing.. Trying to use wing to control my keyboard through midi

I am a newbie and I have a question. What’s a wedge?

I get that the channels can be stereo but how are mics or instruments plugged in to make them stereo. It still is abit puzzling to me

Wow! How did you get version 3.0 I don’t see it on their website under the firmware updates
