  • Or is it? :) Not sure what to expect from this species, so I'm hoping someone out there who also has blues will be able to comment. The male looks identical, so they appear to be the same species. With or without the blue, she's still beautiful.

She's a stunner. She looks blue to me, but I only have a P cancerides.

I was comparing her to my P. cancerides as well, and they definitely did NOT look similar. Sp. blue she is! haha

I find this humorous. Your voice sounds EXACTLY like mine when my G. sp. norte did her wet molt. "WTF is this?" Not that yours wet molt, of course, but the "huh????" tone matches. heh heh. There is serious "blue-age" at different angles, and your wife's comment at the end was spot on to what I was thinking. I think you've got what you thought you had. :-)

Yeah, I think I was expecting more blue, but I LOVE her look. Sounds like she's a blue!

I'm loving her coloration. I just don't want to breed her and not know what species she is. Thanks!

You should snuggle with it 😁 That said you need to branch out to some mantids and roaches. 😎 Excellent videos by the way.

Hahaha! I think I'll pass on the snuggling. :) And it's only a matter of time. :)

Tom Moran Awesome, for your first roach species I would recommend Eublaberus posticus, these roaches are actually highly predatory in captivity and prefer live insect prey in addition to normal roach food. A large colony can near instantaneously consume injured prey. Ironically they make good feeders too despite the above information.

Well it's a species I really like so am interested to see what people say about them. Need to read up on a list of them so I know what to look out for...although saying that any Phormictopus I'll mosy likely buy. Have seen the Hispaniola one..that's a beauty. (I have cancerides/Auratus/Atrichomatus).

She is a light gray blue on the rump. Her carapace is champagne pink. The stripes on her femurs are striking. I am no authority on T's but "brown bears" can actually be black, white and gray. Why could one species of T not have different coloring. I have seen so many so called "blue" T's that have NO blue on them at any age. Metallica and GBB are the only ones with true blue coloring as adults. The Aviculara Avic has the most beautiful blue color as slings but it is not like that as adults.
Also without natural light it is difficult for a camera to pick out the more subtle colors. You rehouse like you are changing a role of paper towels. I love how you are so easy going with them.
One T keeper who is popular on YT has so many T's in his collection but space is so limited he keeps them in much smaller containers than you do. Even after they are past the sling stage and juveniles they are still kept in deli cups. They are dirty and tiny and cramped. If you are going to keep T's you should do it so that they are as close to natural as you can make it. Just adding to an already crowded collection but not keeping them in large enough containers makes them want to bolt when they are fed. Would you want to sit in the same position all day with little light, barely any room to web and not have your area clean? I really think you do the best job as far as North American T keepers. Your T homes are big, clear and clean. They are happier and it makes for much better videos. I love blue T's. But not many keepers seem to like blue. I hope your male Phormictopus is as healthy as the female and that they can be bred. The world needs more blue and blue-green T's. Great videos Tom, always.

I can definitely see the bluish tinge to her. I just wasn't sure if it was a "true blue" species or one that just showed blue highlights in certain light. Regardless, she still looks great! :)

Hahahahaha! Okay, that is GREAT to know. I had a feeling the few pictures that I found online might not be accurate, so I honestly didn't know what to expect. I don't want to breed this one and have it be the wrong species. Thanks, bud!
