The shadow king takes one last fall.
This was a little project that spawned in my head when King Sombra was defeated once and for all in the show. It made me remember the Sombra from the comics and how much more of a happy ending he got. So the idea was to take some elements from Sombra's story in the comics and fuse it with the Sombra in the show.
For it to be my last big video of 2019 and the fact that MLP FIM ended this year is just something that felt right to do. MLP was the thing that catapulted my freelancing career over the internet and it's what this channel was originally made to upload about. I have great love for this show, so I wanted to say a proper goodbye in my own little way.

The canon voice for Sombra is so cheesy and kinda degrades him to me, but this voice is just mmmm 👌

Wow, okay, this brought me to tears at the end. I believe that this would be a good ending for Sombra. Even if he was ruthless in life, he could have a second chance and I fricken love it.

When Hope drifted away, Sombra was not himself anymore. Even if they both died, they still would've continued to love each other. Even if it meant that Hope and Sombra spent their lives that way; all that mattered was loving each other. They made their choices and did not regret or complain about it, Hope choosing to love Sombra simply because she knew it was right.
That's what true love is. It is selfless, vulnerable and free. Hope wasn't forced by anything, she made her choices freely and took responsibility for them. She chose to love him even in death and suffering.
Words can't describe how much I shipp these two and how this art is gorgeous and much more better than the cannon

BRO! This had me full on sobbing at the end, I have been with MLP since the beginning and I have always loved Sombra as a character. I can't believe my childhood has ended this year :( thank you thank you thank you for this. I love it with all my crystal heart. May this version of MLP be remembered in our hearts as we await the next. Again, thank you for this and bringing the Sombra some people don't know into the light. I hated how he was just destroyed in the show but it allowed creators like you to give him a perfect send off. I loved this and the show. Thank you so much for all your hard work, it has never gone to waste!
I'll still go back and read the first Sombra comic every once in a while and just fucking cry

I started this expecting some kind of cliché happy ending, but that was wonderful! You could feel every powerful emotion, and Flurry really tied it together. I love it!
They actually have good ending in the Comics him almost fading away

Canon literally cannot say this did or didn't happen after Sombra's season 9 defeat.
You can consider this as what happened and nothing can change that or make you wrong
You got a point. In the comic fiendship is magic, it was twilight and cadence reading sombras diary, which explained his backstory. And at the end of the comic, they leave and sombras horn comes down the stairs, with sombra essentially being a ghost. However, in the main comics, sombra is reformed and leaves with radiant hope to bring back princess amor. Obviously the later got retconned, but sombras backstory comic can still be considered canon to the show. So in other words, sombra reforming in the comics never happened, and instead, this video happened.

Ok i know everyone is going to talk about the animation and style and don't get me wrong ITS. AMAZING. But the SCRIPT for this and the music in the background and the the voices were just so incredibly done. Everything just seems so proper and in a way there's just no way this could have been done better. Thank you Dragonfox girl
this is the ending of king sombra we should have gotten. its very well made and most canon fitting 😍
its one of the two ending possible for sombra, the child who became a monster for a loved one, now we need the ending of the young umbrum who became a montser for complete his own destiny, for be what he wanted. a ruler free, not a puppet controled by his umbrum sibling, not the monster of princess amores have foreseen. but a dark king

U know what? If we had this kind of story for Sombra in the actual show, his 'death' would've been a lot more satisfying for me X3 Sombras always been one of my favorite characters. I remember first seeing him during Return of the Crystal Empire and wondering what his story was. How he ended up the way he was. I then saw small parts of the comics and learned the basic lore for him and just fell in love with his story. The show never included this in the episodes tho and its a bit upsetting. The ending they went with for Sombra left a lot of Sombra Fans upset. He may have gotten a few more mins of screen time than he did before, and a voice, but it rlly was a let down X3. I still unconditionally love the show tho and i absolutly love this video. I know it isnt cannon but I like to think it is. No one really can say what happened exactly to sombra after he returned to the shadow realm. This video soothes my sombra fan heart. UuU Such amazing work TwT
I'm not gonna lie as a fan of Sombra and Radiant Hope(both IDW's take on it and your take on them as well) I cried. From the bottom of my heart I consider this to be a proper send off to him and Radiant Hope.
Fan version of King Sombra > MLP FIM version of King Sombra.
If anyone actually gets this, this reminds me of If I Were A Pony for Chrysalis, and the only reason I say that...is because from what I can tell, both involved alicorns and their abilities. In this one, I believe Flurry had something to do with Sombra getting a second chance. Maybe she heard this conversation and decided to give them a second chance.
In the one I brought up, Luna gave the changling queen a final sweet dream before she passed away.

Frankly, I have never seen a better conclusion to Sombra and Radiant's story arc than this one right here. I've always loved the way you portrayed their relationship, since I too always hoped that there would have been more to Sombra's character like in the comics. And Flurry's role in this is just perfect too♡ I always believed that she would be a great leader, offering quite a lot of wisdom.

Truly, thank you for this. King Sombra is my favorite character in the series and I so wanted to see him have a better ending then what the show provided, epic as it was. I had a smile the whole way through. Excellent art, animation and performances to you and Edward James. This wonderful work of art will inspire me to pursue my own artistic ventures.

I really wished for King Sombra to get riformed during season 9, but they simply let him die and we still don't know anything about his backstory in the actual show.
What a disappointing ending for him and the other villains:(:(:(
They didn't even keep him no-nonsense, genre-savvy, etc., like his 2012-2015 self.
Now he's just a cackling, cliched, mustache-twirling jobber.
I really love this video. It show cases my favorite thoughts on fate and destiny. Where Hope tells Sombra that she chose a different destiny for him and he has the same choice.

I learned today that love can redeem the most evil being like King Sombra and finally bring him the peace he been looking for all along.
This is the best final ending for Sombra after his death: with his mare, loving and loved, and at peace with his circumstances. (Also I luv comics Sombra)

Sometimes I feel like King Sombra could have had a better arc.
A popular fan theory is that the crystal heart separated the evil side from Sombra which is what Grogar/Discord brought back
Another is that "Grogar" cloned him Mean 6-style.
Hence that rune (similar to the ritual for them) instead of his horn (which Siege did feature), the opposite personality (like theirs), and the melting-esque death (like theirs, too).

Radiant Hope really cared about his beloved Sombra (and even we should do the same). What she said must move and touch with everyone, who are exactly just like her... (including me - on the end i couldnt hold mine eyes dry...) 😭❤️. Even after all, what Sombra did, she saved him and both (love needs another chance... Let she bloom in happiness in this New Beginning) 😍

This is very beautiful, audio is a bit loud though and it overpowers sombra's voice quite a bit... would be willing to help you remix the audio to level it out if ya want, I can send a url to the result, going to need the original recordings though.
