@@wargamer2213bs, I was flying near the ground and gotten killed by pheonix. Does it only work close to ground? I’ve done it close to water too but I imagine since its plain it can still track you close to water.
1:57 PD does see objects flying away from it in similiar speed since it only filters out things going 0 kph, not 0 kph to itself. If the plane with the radar is going 1200 kph the radar will ignore anything that has a approach speed of 1200 kph. So if you fly away at the same 1200 kph the radar will recognize that you are flying away from it and not ignore you, because it sees something to which the distance doesnt change. This is why you can fire missle at target going cold. Hope this helps :)
The radar can still see you if you are going cold the same speed as the a adversary. Because even if the closure rate between the enemy jet and you is 0 m/s the ground still moves toward the radar at the speed the jet is travelling. Therefore the radar only filters out targets that are travelling the same speed as the jet and not exactly 0 m/s as you explained in the video
I've watched five or six videos on this topic so far and this is by far the shortest and most informative of them all. I actually understand what I'm supposed to be doing now. Thanks be to Gilbucky.
Pulse Doppler can actually see targets moving away. If the RADAR’s plane is flying at 800MPH, it will be looking for anything not closing at 800MPH. Early PD doesn’t do this very well, but later ones do.
Well god dammit gilbucky thank you very much for dumbing it down for a simple mind and giving some very good pointers for successful notching. Very much appreciated and utilizing these strategies have had an immediate effect.
What if you are notching while descending or ascending, will that affect the enemy ability to continue tracking you or do you have to notched at a parallel level to the ground as well?
One thing I want to put down, late gen RWRs are able to detect range, and altitude can easily be predicted by banking until you lose radar signature, as the top of your plane has no sensors, ias said in the video. It's very simplistic and barebones, but helpful if you fly 10m above the ground or 10km above the ground. Hope I can get a pin for this! :)
Do we need to consider that the missle is moving and predicting as well when we try to notch horizontally. Does that mean we have to turn more angel that what in theory
Just so you know, there is more to this as a fox3 has its own radar, and it moves to you on an intercept path. There are more things you can do to doge it.
irl most pulse doppler radars can still see a target even when it is seemingly "stationary" as long as it isnt against the ground, so to notch one needs to also be in front of terrain from the perspective of the enemy (i dont play warthunder, so i dont know if this is simulated in there, it is in dcs)
The info at 2:00 is wrong. The radar CAN see you while flying away from it, because it’s filtering out anything moving towards itself at the same speed it is moving. That filters out the ground and the sideways plane. However the plane flying away from u’s is visible to the radar since the radar can see that it’s moving. Some of the data on the lock will be weird because the pulses don’t hit the plane at regular intervals, but it will be visible. The only time it won’t is when the plane is flying away from us at the same speed at the radar pulses.
The funny part is that notching and spamming chaff is not rly working for me. 8/10 times the Fox-3s still will get me and in return my missiles wich are launched at even 8km away are easily getting dodged
except the 120s in warthunder dont really gaf if youre within 10km, which seems to be the only distance a russian can get an r77 to consistently lock rn
ok but WHAT ABOUT CLOSER RANGES? like with my f-16A i need to get closer to those amraams slingers bc of the 9L and no matter what i do i die if they send a fox 3 or am i just supposed to run away from them and let my 80% f4s team die
The metho d u called cranking is not a crank that’s snaking. Cranking is keeping the enemy on the gimble limit of the radar so that the enemy missle has to fly a longer distance to you compared to your missle to him.
Depends on the plane top tier usually have a RWR which warns you that a radar missile is locked and or launched, IR not so easy but use flares and chaff as a combo if you can and if you have a lot of chaff and flares
@@skirfanazimahmed1326 I don't know about that but the close a lock (for example a M23/MSL icon) to the circle around your plane on the rwr the close the thing locking you. that's why when I get a missle warning and I see that it is right next to my plane on the rwr I know I'm screwed xd

All these are perfect for 1v1 but what’s frustrating in WT is having 15 other enemies launching Fox 3’s at you at once
Playing SIM doesn't make it really better if you ask me, if I ain't got the 13000 USD setup nor the knowledge of a TOPGUN pilot you ain't gon take off from the airfield successfully
solution: Play DCS, maps are bigger and most engagements are probably 1v1 or at worst 1v3-4.

Thats cool and all until you're facing 3 f14's with pheonix while being in a mig23 with only 4 sectors in your rwr and basically no way to retaliate
just stay close to the ground and its dodged, pheonix's don't use PD radar like 120's r77's etc.
