I've seen people point this out before, but I think the only reason Stolas is always so sexual with Blitz (which makes Blitz feel like that's all Stolas cares about) is because the first time they saw each other again as adults, that's what Stolas perceived Blitz to WANT. He thought Blitz came to his palace just to have sex with him, so he's been super sexual with Blitz ever since, in hopes of keeping him around

It's impressive he held it together as well as he did, and that it only took 4 takes. • @downbeatdialga1341
    @downbeatdialga1341 9 місяців тому +60

So yeah, this is why Stolas fetishized Blitzø, and why he always uses pet names like his “impish little plaything”. Paimon drilled it into Stolas’ head that he and Blitzø would never be equals. “You’re above him, he bows to us”, from when he was a kid, he was taught that the imps were less than him, all the while harboring feelings for Blitzø. And then he was forced to date and marry Stella to have Octavia. He never got to explore his identity, and was stuck with Stella for (a minimum of) 25 years.
Assuming Stolas and Stella had to have Octavia right when they were 18/19, I think it’s a fair guess that the flashback took place when Stolas & Blitzø were like 10. He’s then forced to court Stella for 8 years until they’re young adults, have a kid with someone he didn’t love as an 18yr old (way too young to be raising a kid imo), and then he sticks out the abusive marriage for Octavia for 17 years, to provide her some sorta nuclear, familial dynamic of a mom, dad and their child. This puts Stolas & Blitzø around say 35ish?
Because of his father, Stolas began to view his own admiration for Blitzø as something perverse and taboo, so he bottled up his feelings for nearly 3 decades. If you carry such a perspective from your childhood, it’s not gonna be easy to change. When Blitzø came back into his life-albeit for the grimoire, Stolas was caught off guard. His crush that his father said was of a lower status to himself, was suddenly in control of the situation. Stolas was already a bit drunk at the party, so then in his mind, the “taboo” of him associating with a commoner boiled over. He was doing this thing that he was told was “bad”, yet he was the happiest he’d been since before meeting Stella. Suddenly the worldview that his dad instilled in his mind was shattered. It felt liberating, but he was so unsure how to handle the situation, he just assumed this was also what Blitzø wanted, that he just wanted their relationship to be carnal and taboo. It’s similar to internalized homophobia. He didn’t know what to make of his feelings, and so when he was with Blitzø, he still felt ashamed about being with him.

Probably the darkest thing that Stella said in this episode is how when she and Stolas slept together, he would just "lay there and stare at the wall." We know it is confirmed that Stolas is gay, so we can infer that there was some level of SA that may have been going on, at the very least dubious consent issues, as he would've had no interest at all in sleeping with Stella.
This is the episode that made me a full supporter behind Stolas. He is not a perfect character, but he is probably one of the most sympathetic characters in this show.

@@tomfou Consent issues aren't as simple as a yes or no, is the thing, and honestly I feel for both of them. Neither one had a choice about "agreeing" to the marriage or the sex. If they'd been able to think of themselves as fellow victims and allies getting through an unpleasant task together, it wouldn't have been so bad, but Stella chose a different approach. She doesn't want to consider herself a victim, and I think she's been punishing Stolas ever since the wedding - it's all his fault for not being a better partner, etc. I have no doubt that she made the experience worse for him than it had to be.

    • @MarkMark-lx6gl
      @MarkMark-lx6gl 9 місяців тому +4

That is why it is possible to partially justify Stella and her actions, and not just call her vicious, horrible, and infuriating. No one asked her permission to marry either, she was also extradited against it. But she had to live all her life with someone she didn't love, with whom she couldn't find or enjoy him. She was just as simple a tool in the hands of her parents, especially her father, who did nothing but indulge his daughter's habits and desires, not seeing or wanting to pay her special attention only to his heir, the future Marquis. It couldn't have been any better with her mother, she could oppress her and make her think that, as a woman in Goetia, she would hardly achieve anything. All this made Stella resentful of the whole world. And Stolas also cheated on her, and not just cheated on her, but with a demon of the lowest demon, disgraced her in front of her friends, in front of all Goetia, filed for divorce, and in the end left her with nothing, That is, her whole life was wasted, everything for which she herself was born, as she was indoctrinated, was in vain. Out of madness, anger and despair, she went off the rails, and came up with nothing better than to hire a killer with a special weapon, thanks to which she could finally fight the one who had taken away all the years of her life that she had lived with him, and blindly believing and hoping that everything that belonged to him would go to her. Her only redemptive thing is possible, if not in love, then at least something maternal towards Octavia. It's not yet fully resolved, but she at least takes it with her for the weekend, and worries that Stolas is turning her daughter against her. Yes, many people believe that Stella hates Octavia, just by the phrase "it's a good thing that egg fell out of me", but she said it more in the sense that she didn't have to fuck Stolas anymore when she insulted him in front of her friends. That doesn't say anything about hating or not loving Octavia. In general, I will say more that perhaps she wants her daughter to become a real full-fledged Goetia with abilities, a position, and not just an instrument of marriage. But what Stolas has done can get in the way. And then her manipulative older brother decided to cash on this whole situation. Actually, I'm really looking forward to the full development of the plot and the characters themselves and their relationships in full form.

Belphegor from the series on the canons of theology and Demonology Demoness is an inventor who is responsible for all the inventions and achievements of mankind, which has provided them for thousands of years of existence and continues to inspire scientists and other figures. She is like a local Athena(goddes of wisdom) and Asclepius(god of medicine). The expression Laziness - Engine of Progress was invented by her and was her motto. She also discovered all the known diseases, both on Earth and in places where it would seem impossible to be in Hell, and became the one who invented medicine and many medicines, in particular those based on narcotic substances. But since she's still the Embodiment of Laziness, it's up to her to do everything alone, and she's created assistants for herself. Baphomets - Sheep-like and goat-like demons who have learned a lot quickly, but like their creator, they are very absent-minded and passive. But it is precisely thanks to them and Belphegor, Hell subsequently evolved (she and Asmodea were able to teach technology and ingenuity, so he founded his own toy factory and everything necessary for his Sin), as well as the Earth, so that both these worlds just consider it almost indistinguishable, and everything that was invented in Hell subsequently came to Earth, starting from Such mythical creatures as Satyrs, Sirens, Furies, Sea Monsters, Bunyip, Mothman, Chupacabra, Dinosaurs, Werewolves, Ghouls, Owl-man, Jersey Devil, Yeti, Minotaurs, Faeries, Gremlins, Ogres, Dwarfs, Oni, Youkais, Lizard People, Aliens, Dragons, Pagan Gods and others, as well as clowns, jesters, zani and the Circus in general were founded and invented by our ancestors based on the images of the inhabitants of Hell, who in the old days got out to Earth much more often). Returning to Belphegor, she is the weakest because she relies not on her own strength and abilities, which are almost non-existent, but on her intelligence and knowledge.

As far as Stolas’ age in the first segment… If you count back based off of Via’s age and how long it was between the first two segments (and assume that Stolas and Stella were minimum 18 when they were married and started trying for Via, which is a safe assumption to my understanding), the youngest Stolas could have been in the first part was 10-11. And he can’t have been much older than that since he clearly hadn’t started puberty yet.
That puts Stolas in his mid-30s in the current timeline.
It also means he was probably in his early 20s when he sung the lullaby to Via in the beginning of LooLoo Land. You know, where he said, “I used to think that I was bold, I used to think love would be fun. Now all my stories have been told except for one.” With that “one” being Via. And this guy was potentially looking at eternity thinking his best days were already behind him! 😭😭😭😭😭

I remember this episode being really controversial when it came out. People didn't like it for a number of various reasons: the childhood 'friends' to future problematic lovers plot was deemed too 'fanficy', the part about Blitz being bought to be Stolas's playmate rubbed alot of people the wrong way for obviously understandable reasons and for *ruining Stella's character.* This was the most we'd gotten of Stella after years of waiting and it shattered many peoples hopes that Stella would be a sympathetic bad bitch like Verosika. It also doesn't help that it plays into the 'the person being cheated on deserves it for being an asshole' trope that's prevalent in stories where the main couple is having an affair. But despite everything, I still like this episode. It does a good job of portraying the very big differences between how Stolas viewed their relationship versus how Blitz saw things, and I think that's worth something at least.

I have a mixed feelings about what was shown in the flashbacks in this episode. On the one hand, it was both interesting and cute, and I saw in it a good reference to the Prince of Egypt, like Stolas - Ramses, Blitz - Moses and Paimon - Seti I. Like the theme of friendship between the royal heir and a child from a race that serves his family, and the father monarch, tough and demanding of his son. Oh, and from there the groundwork of the conflict, why Blitzo thinks that the supreme does not care about them, and interesting things about the Elders and Juniors Goetia, who gave rise to the theory of the slowing down of the flow of time in Hell compared to the Earth, or vice versa, acceleration, as well as in I'm basically comparing it to Greek mythology. But on the other hand to me, their relationship and the characters themselves are seen as Tony "Lip" Vallelonga and Donald "Don" Shirley from the movie Green Book, again well-read and major, brutal and armed individuals whose paths cross by the will of fate, and they may not get along at first, but then they get into each other. That is, if Stolas wasn't shown as a child, but as a full-fledged adult, formed ancient demon who hires and twists a relationship with Blitzo that grows into something more.
Here is why it is possible to partially justify Stella and her actions.

I still find the "Ruining Stella" argument to be flawed and dumb, we know that she is f'ed in the head way before this episode, like, she literally hired Striker to kill Stolas and people are surprised that she isn't a sweet little baby who did nothing wrong? Besides, if anything, I have my own take on this episode and Stella, and is that both Stolas and Stella are two sides of the same coin; Both raised in families that cared little if nothing for them and only had them for their benefit, and meanwhile Stella got dragged into the whole environment and "blended it", as well as we see in the picture that Paimon show Stolas were she got so broken she resorted to violence, and as for Stolas, he stood his ground and refused to gave in, no matter how much he got hurt, they're the same faith with different outcomes, and I've seen no one else realize that

Since the Goetia are fallen angels, only angelic weaponry can kill them. Stolas may or may not have a lifespan considering he's pretty much a half breed, but since Paimon took on the form of a Goetia to concieve him he may be pure blooded. It depends. While different works credit him with different titles, in the Ars Goetia (the demenology from real life which forms the basis for a lot the high ranking demons in this show), he is one of the nine kings of hell, the same rank Asmodeus holds, too. Though whether or not he's also on the same level as a Sin in this show remains to be seen.

I find it interesting that you only realised Stella was abusive when she tried to hit Stolas. From my point of view, the public humiliation, as well as the constant insults and dismissal, that we see throughout the episode are signs of emotional abuse. And of course when we saw her in season 1 (specifically in Loo Loo Land) she was screaming (more like shrieking) and throwing things at him. Back then, it could've seemed more justified because of his cheating on her, but with what this episode shows us, it really seems to me like Stella emotionally abused Stolas from the beginning, and it maybe escalated to verbal and physical abuse as well after the cheating. Though the physical and verbal abuse could've been there before too, we can't really know that. Whatever the case, I just wanted to point this out because emotional abuse is so invisible sometimes and flies over our heads completely, but it's just as damaging and traumatic as any other kind of abuse. :(

Yeah, Stella completely demolished any possible sympathy she could be granted, and the signs have been there from the start.
Was she forced into an unwanted marriage and into a situation where she was being told to have sex with someone she didn’t want? Yes. But she also had a choice in how she handled that shitty card. And she chose to be extremely cruel and perpetuate cycles of abuse and take it out on anyone she could.
Not only was she emotionally abusive throughout the marriage, but then there’s the physical abuse as well. Stolas’ catch of her attempted strike paints a picture of this NOT being the first time she’s gone to hit him. And even as far back as 1x2 we have her throwing the staff and his plants while screaming at him-more physical abuse. And the fact that she was doing this in front of Octavia (and where Via could potentially be in the line of fire) is abuse towards Via as well. And the fact that Via was so nonchalant about it meant that this was a regular occurrence.
She could have handled the situation with the same grace and dignity that Stolas did. She could have tried to at least keep things amicable with Stolas and heck, who would know if they had decided to go the turkey baster route to get an heir? There were options.
But no, none of them would have been as satisfying to that nasty POS. There’s only so much allowance you can give someone once they’re an adult and both capable and expected to make their own choices.

Blitzø & Stolas seeing each other for the first time in 25 years makes the former’s breakdown at the end of S1E8 so much more heartbreaking. Look at it like this:
Many queer characters and their love stories depict 18~20 somethings or even teens in blossoming relationships (Love Simon, Heartstopper, The Owl House), but Blitzø & Stolas are two men in/passing their prime. So in S1E8, when Blitzø was a crying drunk, “I’m gonna die alone, aren’t I? Just a wrinkly, old, withered waste…”, that gives you an idea how he’s feeling. He’s not like Moxxie & Millie who found each other in their mid 20s and are happily married. He’s got almost a decade on them, and he’s worried he’s not worth loving now, and that his best years are behind him. He thinks he’s running out of time.
So why should he get close to Stolas and risk getting hurt? He wants to experience a good relationship, but this noble seems to only view him as a plaything, or as the lower class. He verbalized as much when he was at Queen Bee’s party, “is queen bee too scared to lose, to a little imp like ME?!” That’s all he thinks he is in the nobles’ eyes. And since Stolas didn’t stand up for him in Ozzie’s (remember Stolas covered his face with the menu, after Asmodeus blasted their relationship in the club), his inaction seems to solidify the idea that he’s just a notch on Stolas’ belt, a commodity that can be fetishized.

30:16 the Asmodean Crystals are crystals that allow the Succubi and Incubi to go to Earth. It's how Verosica is able to go to Earth for her job. Stolas pulling out the book on this is implying that he's going to try to get one of those crystal's for Blitz so that their deal with the book can end and Blitz doesn't have to come back every month.

I really want to see such a scene in the future, as if we are shown a flashback of little Blitzo and Barbie, whose sibling relationship has not yet been broken, and their relationship with their mother, and then the camera focuses on her necklace and the shot is replaced by a sad Blitzo who is holding and looking at this necklace. And then Moxxie knocks on his door and announces their new target from a new client. Blitzo comes to his senses and puts the necklace around his neck in a hurry. All in all, it's a classic.

This is one of my favourite episodes in the series, it really made me like Stolas so much more, and made you realise Blitz did have a special meaning to him even if he doesn't always express it in the best way. Also stuff like Blitz manipulating Stolas' feelings just to get the Grimoire only making it worse, but also him feeling like Stolas is just fetishising him yet he can't help but feel invited by Stolas' expressions of love. There's a lot going on here, it's very bittersweet, but hopefully things get better.

I've been WAITING for this episode since you became so attached to Stolas from the very beginning. This episode really brings to light allllll the baggage and reasons why Stolas and Blitzø are the way they are. I found it especially rewarding to go back and rewatch the first two episodes, and it really hits you that like.... the reason Stolas is SO HORNY is because the hookup scene in this episode had just happened, and Stolas is like a teenager almost in the way that he's JUST NOW had his first positive sexual experience, a real moment of intimacy that he enjoyed, and of course he's gone into overdrive. It seems so overkill on the first watch but makes COMPLETE sense on the re-watch. Brilliant

Yeah it wasn't communicated perfectly, but Paimon bought Blitz for the day. He specifies that it's Stolas' birthday and he doesn't want to deal with him, and Cash, Blitz's dad mentions that Fizz has more shows for 'today', confirming that Paimon was interested in getting Stolas a temp playmate to shut him up. And to add to the 'Paimon sucks' fire, he tells Stolas, "Here's your new friend" KNOWING Blitz is only there for the day. He doesn't care if Stolas gets attached to someone he might never see again

I don't know if it's said in the story or not, but Blitzø's father mainly teaches Blitzø negatively about greed, but on the other hand, Blitzø's mother teaches Blitzø positively. That caused Blitzø's father to take advantage of this point to manipulate Blitzø.

7:07 Personally, I took that line- "You tried a solo act; it didn't work out so well."- to be a show business metaphor for how Blitz tried to start some sort of new life by himself, and it flopped because as much as he'd hate to admit it, Blitz is more successful when he has help.
    10:56 I mean, Blitz's weapon of choice is a flintlock pistol ;)
25:46 I think Blitzo is his birth name, but he makes the o silent to cut himself off from his circus background (like Stolas said, "o" makes it like a clown name), and he probably can't get it legally changed. Those who still call him "Blitzo" are those he knew before he made it his dead-name and either despise him enough to not respect his new name, or he just hasn't talked to more recently.
30:18 Someone translated the text, and it's basically what Asmodeus gives succubi and incubi so they can travel to the human world and do their sinning with human disguises.
33:03 Her brother's name that was slipped in there was Andrealphus, who's a marquis in real life demonology.

In case anyone was curious, the translation of the page on Asmodean Crystals reads as follows:
"Bestowed to mainly succubi and incubi by the king sin of lust - these crystals allow access to the mortal realm.
Any hellborn in possession of a registered crystal may be granted portal summons.
It is common practice to have the crystal paired with another object for convenience.
Jewelry is the most popular option.
This writing runes shit was fun at first, but I know I am def not doing it right and I should be spending more time with my friends and family."
That last line is sending me 😂 I literally laughed out loud once I finished translating it. I love it when animators put fun details in their works like this.

The crystals are one of the only ways for most demons to “legally” enter the mortal world, so he is researching how to cut off their business deal and free him. You should definitely watch the non-show song that he sings because its related as well and so so impactful.

Paimon is the name of an actual demon from the Lesser Key of Solomon book where it has many volumes and one of these volumes are the Ars Goetias and Paimon is considered as one of the many Kings of the Ars Goetia. Most of the Goetia demons in the book are actually Fallen Angels like Lucifer, but we don't know if Vivziepop herself will implement that detail.
