  • German soprano Edda Moser is known for her crystal clear vocals and wonderful diction. Her most noted performances include Das Rheingold, Don Giavanni, Turandot and The Magic Flute. The Magic Flute was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and it premiered in 1791. The most famous aria from the opera is “Queen Of The Night”. There have been numerous recordings of this aria by a variety of opera’s best. I personally think that Edda Moser’s interpretation is one of the best ones out there. I love the way she attacks the song with such vigor and to be frank, sings the hell out of it! I think she owns this one. Enjoy!

    Check out her Wikipedia article. She was called to a recording of the Zauberflöte with a full german-speaking ensemble. When arriving in Munich, however, she was told by the producer that Mrs. Sawallisch (the conductors wife) did not fancy her for this role. She - rightfully - asked why the conductors wife has any say in this matter and insisted on her contract being fullfilled. With this mood she went into the recording and allegedly did it in one take. The rest is history.

    If I'm not mistaken, this is the performance that was broadcast by Carl Sagan's team, into outer space, and will continue travelling over billions of miles in the hopes of eventually reaching other species, long after we're gone. It's a long shot, but not impossible. This is probably a good choice to represent the height of human aural achievement.

      If this is the choice however to show to the extraterrestrials, how peaceful human nature is, then it turns out to be a terrible choice. Music and interpretation though are both at the peak of humanly possible.

That's right, the one NASA acknowledged a few years ago. And yes, there are folks living there; have been since before we existed. And we've known that for quite a while.)

      @@hetedeleambacht6608 Agreed, but within her characteristics and abilities. While her effort is commendable, just like that of Damrau, Pop, and many others, it cannot be compared to Edda Moser's. Edda is a true dramatic soprano with a heavier voice and yet as agile and free in the high notes as the lighter voices. She’s in a different league.

No other singer has made it as high as Edda Moser: her interpretation of the revenge aria from Mozart's Queen of the Night has been flying on board two space probes into the vastness of interstellar space for 45 years. With the hope that beings from another civilization might hear her?

    • @robert111k
      @robert111k 9 днів тому

      You can't even compare. Lucia Popp, while being a great soprano, was a lirico-leggero and, as such, was expected to be agile and have no trouble reaching the high notes. The point is that Edda Moser is exactly what this role requires: a dramatic soprano with a heavier, more metallic voice and yet as agile and precise in the high notes as a leggero. She’s in a different league-almost a league of her own, with Deutekom being the only one who comes close.

    • @robert111k
      @robert111k 9 днів тому

      She is amazing. Diana is not, at least in this role. Aside from personal tastes, Damrau is a soprano leggero, naturally agile and able to easily reach the high notes, but the role is written for a dramatic soprano, a heavier and thicker voice like Edda's. Such voices are extremely rare, so usually, in theaters, the role is taken by a young leggero. However, when a true dramatic soprano with the agility and range required for the role appears, it's on another level. You can't even compare. In the last 50 years, only two singers have had the natural ability (on top of their technical skills, of course) to sing the Königin role as it should be. One was Moser, and the other was Deutekom. Comparisons can only be made between them. The others play in a different, inferior league.
