Killing a dog in a story is often something that's criticized. When this chapter first came out, I remember a lot of negative reactions to Mushroom's death. Wondering what the point was and so on. But it actually serves a very important narrative purpose, and I don't think a lot of people really register that. A big part of this game is teaching Daniel about the kind of person he wants to be, especially with the power he has. Daniel has already used his power to kill someone, though it was an accident. Improving his technique is only part of it: a far more important part is teaching him to not use it to emotionally lash out. And narratively, you have to start with something like this. The mountain lion isn't some person doing an evil deed to an innocent creature: the mountain lion is just hungry. It's not malicious, as awful as the moment is. It's just another living being trying to survive. So, if you let Daniel lash out emotionally at something like that, allow him to kill the mountain lion, it starts to teach him that is an okay response to have. That he is allowed to hurt living things when he is angry and upset. From a story standpoint, it's a very necessary moment to have, because the choice you make there is a big part in how you start to shape Daniel's view of the world, and what is or isn't okay to do with his power.
Agreed. I also think it teaches us an important lesson about what happened to their father, because it's the same situation in reverse and holds a mirror up to the boys. The cop reacted out of emotion and anger, and an innocent man was killed. The cougar was just trying to survive, probably feed its cubs, who would now be forced into a similar situation as Sean and Daniel. Being patient enough to understand context before making a response is crucial, especially in these crazy times we live in. I also think it's a possible teaching moment for Sean, because he knew running away was an impulse decision, and Daniel, in being a kid, isn't ready to deal with the consequences of such things so whatever he does, Sean has to take the fall or it corrupts him. The way their brotherhood bond (elder siblings taking the fall for the what the younger does) plays into the wider concepts of justice and Daniel's power is really interesting. Love your Final Fantasy X name, btw ☺
Did people really respond to this negatively? Killing the dog is the most basic story telling device how could people be mad at that lol. Like upset the dog died sure but nobody should be mad at the writing.
I love Sean's sketchbook in this game!! I never read Max's diary in the first game because it just repeated everything we already saw on screen, but this method of combining sketches with quick thoughts Sean writes down is much more interesting to me. Thanks for reading them!!
They’re a little bit long for me, but I don’t really mind because I can just break them up into 2 days like I’ve already done with a few episodes in different play throughs. The FF7 REBIRTH one I had to do a couple of times actually.
i love the way you're meticulous and take time to study all evidences, this is really pleasant to hear your fine thoughts. i love the way you don't rush the game or spend helf stream to read the chat or read someone spoiling the solution in the chat.
This game actually got me into First Aid Kit. I was looking forward to seeing Kasta's reaction to it coming up after mentioning them earlier in the episode.
Not going to lie when mushroom died I had a complete meltdown ... I just lost my dog in November of last year and we buried him like they did and did a whole little funeral for him .... that hit the feels hard .... 😢
i've watched/played this game so many times and never noticed how karen's nightstand carving ("exit door to somewhere else") is JUST like chloe's "hole to another universe" graffiti!!
I think the biggest choice in this one is Tell the Truth? Hide the Secret? So I let Chris keep thinking he had powers, and it leads to a WILDLY different end for him in this chapter...
That can be said about any choice that requires telling the truth or lying. Sean doesn't tell Daniel the truth about Esteban. Daniel becomes unstable in the motel. Not telling Chris he doesn't have super powers puts him at risk of doing something reckless. You can literally see the writing on the wall, what's going to happen not being honest with Chris.
i’m loving your playthrough kasta! i really appreciate the fact that you always take your time to observe and explore stuff, it makes the game so much more enjoyable really
@1:22:00 you choosed wisely without letting the need for revenge picking for you. this place is not safe for a little dog and a little kid, even if it sounds peaceful.
Sean and Daniel are among my favorite duo. I relate to them so much since I have a brother around Daniel's age when this game released so I saw myself and him in the brothers way too often lol 😂 LIS2 is truly something so amazing and I will forever love it. ❤❤ The music scene of them walking through the snow and traveling is among one of my favorite small moments where the music is just...👌👌
crazy how i was close to his age too and now im his brothers age and i just cant imagine having to go through that, back then it seemed like 16 was such a big age but he really is just a kid trying his best :(
Really cool episode I love how you are taking the time to look at the environment and Sean’s journal it’s cool to see you analyze how his drawings reflect his personality. Also side note I feel like Sean would have been cool with his brother swearing it could just be me but it’s really cute to hear Daniel swearing
4:10:00 If sean asked daniel to keep daniel’s power a secret, Chris would believe he actually has power !! Chris will try to swerve the cop’s car to save Sean & Daniel when theyre escaping bcs he thought he had power T^T poor boy ended up getting hit. in my first playthrough Chris was hit by the car I was so shocked and upset hahaha
the reason why this game is more painful then the first one is because you're kind of hoping Sean could rewind time like Max did but he can't. in the first game you didn't have to worry because you could reverse your actions any time. Sean can't do that
It’s defintely a tragic tale, at the very end of the game Sean even says to Daniel he would do anything to change that day, which is something max could and probably would have done.
2:52:13 Your concerns about Daniel and Chris riding in the back of the pickup truck are valid. The state of Oregon allows it, but you must be 18 years of age. Personally I think it's irrelevant whether it's allowed or not. Riding in the back of a pickup truck is a recipe for disaster if an accident should occur.
If Daniel keeps lying to Chris he believes that he can stop a cop car, and either gets run over or Daniel throws the cop car away (depending on if he’s encouraged to use his powers or not).
You get the other 2 endings in this ep if you continue lying to Chris! If daniel is encouraged to use his power throughout the episode, he saves Chris while if he’s not, Chris gets hit. In this case, Daniel told the truth so Chris was not in the position to get hit by the car
I’ve never seen an ending like yours before I’ve never heard the last 20 of your video before and I love it they’ve always been caught by the police officer coming down the road
yeah i think the main thing to remember is that to me and you, not going to the christmas market is the obvious thing to do, but Sean is only 16, something that is easy to forget. He's just a child being given an impossible task
theoretically telekinesis is an impresive power to wield...not as dangerous as controlling time...but it still can be dangerous if abused. usually in fiction it is linked to the emotional distress of the user...anger makes it stronger for example. it also can make the user feel a sense of superiority that is dangerous. as drawbacks...it may put a strain on the user if they abuse it and this could cause side effects. now that you know Daniel has powers the game basically is trying to make it about "teach him well" Daniel will learn from you and this will shape how the story goes. so you aren't shaping yourself as much as you are shaping him.
The key was with the dirty laundry in the bathroom hamper I think you missed a conversation between Sean and Claire which would have given you a little more insight as to the the relationship between the grandparents and Esteban

As a fellow parent, I think you would be an AWESOME "Mamma Bear" Mags 🤗 It is pretty much impossible to not screw up your children in some ways, but as long as you do your best to establish great core values, then the rest can be ironed out over time ♥ I think most, if not all, in your community would agree.
Overall i think the game takes into account two separate parameters that are built throughout your gameplay which are powers usage encouragement and morality. Morality comes from sean related choices ( basically the player morality) and encouragement comes from how many times you tell Daniel to use his powers. As Daniel morality is affected by sean choices of lying/stealing/fighting… at the end of the game these two parameters collide and results in what ending you will get.
Another great video Maggie, the story in this episode had a lot of fun moments and quite sad moments, especially at the start with Mushroom(weird name for a dog by the way😂) but still enjoyed it nonetheless. Love that you made 2 cameos in your own video(😂) and a lot of your choices in this one I would’ve made, especially at the end using Daniel’s powers to help Stephen. Going to be an interesting story from here on in, can’t wait for the next one, hope you and Ginger have an awesome weekend👍. Take care.
I’ve been waiting for this! Super excited to see the rest of your gameplay! I love you and you’re so beautiful! Thank you for the never ending entertainment!
If you had kept encouraging Chris that he had powers, then that would have resulted to him getting hurt because he would jump in front of the car trying to use his powers to stop the car from going after you, Sean and Daniel
This is not true. It depends on daniels power instinct score. If you encourage him to use his powers and never stop him or belittle him when he does use them...example when they are eating breakfast and he uses his powers to stack the plates when you are done, picking the say nothing option raises it by 2 points. Daniel will save chris if he has a high enough power instinct regardless if you kept the secret.
I still don't know how I managed to get Daniel to clean his room. We've made most of the same decisions and but he didn't do it for you and one other person I know. I'll figure it out eventually. Get ready for things to get wild next episode! Looking forward to it!
Poor Lyla! I guess you really don't like her, lol. I kinda wish the devs would have gone all the way with this and would've let people know, in the last episode or so, what happens to Lyla, if you didn't reassure her in the first episode by calling her and say a proper goodbye to her. But if you don't try to call her in episode 2, you'll never know. Maybe they should have also made it more clear in the first episode, that she already had mental problems.
When Daniel beat me at the dice game he drew a picture of mushroom on my bag, I don't know what causes that to happen. Probably just how much he likes you but you've been doing great in terms of making good choices with daniel I dont know why he drew that 😂
4:11:25 you know how you said you need to be sneakier and smarter to not get caught, in my opinion id never confide in a kid about daniels power. i guess thats where it came from.
Hank wouldn't be a local hero if you hadn't stolen from him... Mushroom always gets out...always dies...don;t blame yourself...if Sean doesn't open the door Daniel does...so mushroom always dies. you made the right decision IMO by not letting Daniel attack the mountain lion...because he would have killed it. Claire n Stephen are difficult to like unless u know exactly what to say to them (kind of like real grandparents XD) Claire is more reserved but means well and Stephen is more understanding.
1:22:00 i didnt intervene. The cougar deserved it and i supported his decision to take it out. I ended up getting the ending i wanted with my choices. Not sure what changes from this but that cougar had it coming.
Since your description mentions wondering why the dad didn't involve the grandparents more...I mean, I think this episode absolutely implies that they were low-key racist. Racism comes in a lot of forms, and it's not always in your face. There's a part you can have Sean talk to Claire about his dad, and she rather lightly just says that he was "different" from them. And while they love Sean and Daniel as their grandchildren, they would probably have reacted very differently to two other brown kids that weren't related to them. You can even see in Stephen's office what looks like a MAGA hat. The game intentionally paints them as being different and far kinder than someone like Hank (who kidnapped Sean and hit Daniel) but they also still definitely have those biases. Being around Sean and Daniel would actually probably make them challenge those biases, as it does with Daniel's power, but they aren't there long enough to really start having that kind of introspection.
I think it would be fun if you reacted to the new life is strange with max or made a video with your thoughts. I hope to see you’ll play that one but hopefully you’ll play before the storm & true colors too.
did you played life is strange 1 on stream? i will try to look for it. you should try bully on ps2 it's an open world in a school from rockstar. it's the same teenager spirit than life is strange, but i never played it. i just purchased the ps2 recently.
i don't think this tiger attack was avoidable, because the game must force you to get a good reason to leave that quiet spot. it's how video games work. you found door locked, your forced to look for the key somehow. is there wasn't that mechanic the game would have ended on episode 2. i might be wrong but it's more scripted than you think.
If you chose not to tell chris the truth about his “powers” you wouldn’t have met him in the garden. Consequently, you wouldn’t have known about the secret passage through the woods then sean (big brain moment) would’ve gone out to the street the cops then notice him and chase him, chris thinking he has a super power will try to stop the car then daniel may or may not stop the car from hitting chris based on whether was he discouraged or encouraged to use his powers..

1:56:06 Kasta did you not see that wtf im like daniel has some other powers now yo!
When Daniel beat me at the dice game he drew a picture of mushroom on my bag, I don't know what causes that to happen. Probably just how much he likes you but you've been doing great in terms of making good choices with daniel I dont know why he drew that 😂
Please react to the other endings once you get yours! It’s so worth watching
I cant Daniel is so cute in this episode 😭
4:11:25 you know how you said you need to be sneakier and smarter to not get caught, in my opinion id never confide in a kid about daniels power. i guess thats where it came from.
I really wish you would've called lyla in ep1 and 2 🥺🥺 also the room key was in the hamper in the bathroom 😅
I spoke with lyla both times and logged onto the laptop.
just so you know, mushroom would’ve died regardless of your choice this episode. i love your gameplay!!! 💕
maggie wanting sean and daniel to just clean ANYTHING in their houses has me rolling 😭😭 giving such mom/big sister vibes
Im enjoying you gameplay. And btw the game is 7 endings.
Haha, I love your faces for all the puberty boy thoughts, makes you seem so innocent. :D
Thumbs not just being weak but also impatient, heh? :p
Kastaclysm Awesome Video Today!!🔥🐐🐐💎
Hell yes let’s gooo Kasta!
When are you playing Stellar Blade?
I think it would be fun if you reacted to the new life is strange with max or made a video with your thoughts. I hope to see you’ll play that one but hopefully you’ll play before the storm & true colors too.
did you played life is strange 1 on stream? i will try to look for it. you should try bully on ps2 it's an open world in a school from rockstar. it's the same teenager spirit than life is strange, but i never played it. i just purchased the ps2 recently.
she has the lis 1 game play through on her channel
@@kenzieburgess thanks kenzie have a good day
i don't think this tiger attack was avoidable, because the game must force you to get a good reason to leave that quiet spot. it's how video games work. you found door locked, your forced to look for the key somehow. is there wasn't that mechanic the game would have ended on episode 2. i might be wrong but it's more scripted than you think.
A bigger question to ponder: how does Chris know that Sean and Daniel are running from the police?
Is there a way to save mushroom!!!!!??
