I don't even know where to start but this video really brought up some emotions... I loved the intro with you showing the videos your dad made of you when you were small and its true, in some way these videos from my parents feel more vivid and real than any memories I have of myself as a child, I definitely plan on doing the same. Great aesthetically pleasing and inspiring video, best of luck to you in the future, you have some real talent!
I don’t have any footage of me when I was younger other than performing in a play since filming outside of those events was not a thing when I was younger. Your video made me realize how precious the footage I have of my children are and how I should spend the hours and hours of time it will take to make them into videos. Great storytelling, video editing, and your footage of your travels are beautiful! Looking forward to more!

Wow. I felt this. Was just thinking about how I miss my passion for this. The days turned into weeks, into years and we feel left behind…and then to work on finding ourselves again. Picking our cameras up again. Remembering why we are so passionate and getting back to it. Thank you so much for creating this beautiful visual journey that I can so relate to on a deep level.
makes me so happy to get comments like this. I was really just trying to motivate myself when I made this video, and knowing that it's inspired anyone else is more than I could have hoped for
Every couple of months I watch a video, where I know I need to rewatch it again the next day to experience it in a different frame of mind ... this was one of those my friend. I got into making videos here too to help people but also because of documentation as well. Phenomenal execution Sean!
This was incredible. Growing up, I had an uncle that had a camcorder that was used at all of my birthday parties and holiday events that my family put on. I used to re-watch those moments again and again growing up, getting to re-live those experiences, but also cementing them into my memory with a clarity not afforded by my memory alone. I'll have to look into digitizing those old VHS tapes before they degrade beyond salvaging. It's nice to look back on, for the memories, but also to see what it was like to record the moments we genuinely cared about and get lost in those memories. Even here on UA-cam, I find that the videos my friends posted way back in the late 00's are some of my favorite to go back to. It's not because they have good cinematography or edits, just because it's a great way to remember a moment in my life with more clarity. Thank you so much for this, I really needed it today.
Funny how you did a two month solo trip thru Southeast Asia... Cause this is exactly what I will be doing starting Feb 28th :) And once more, this chapter will be documented with my camera for sure! Very inspiring video, thanks a lot! 😊
The experience of seeing yourself on your home tv / camera I feel like was really profound especially in that time period of the 90s... I think it shaped a lot of us filmmaker/youtuber/videographers. I really love your style and storytelling chops. Keep up the great work.
This video was super well done! The story telling, the emotions, the conveyance, all of it absolutely blew me away. I've been interested in videography/photography for a pretty long time, but never really invested much of any real strong effort into actually capturing most moments in my life, because as of right now I'm in probably the most stagnant, boring, uninteresting point in my life that I've been in. I've been doing so much research on different kinds of cameras, and I'm still doing more to look into it, but I really do want to grow and make some personal changes that will be great for my mental and physical well-being. There's a lot going on I am wishing to change in my life, there's so many different goals and ideas coursing through my mind, and I want nothing more than to try and achieve some of those goals, even if my mind makes things feel overwhelming when it all wants to come out at once. I can very much so relate to not really having strong amounts of focus on the things that I am not very passionate about, but the things that I am passionate about, I like to hyperfixate on. I think it's not a bad thing as long as I focus on taking care of myself in the creative process. Thank you very much for this video, it's been absolutely beautiful and inspiring for me to be better.
“Outwitted time” is one of coolest expressions of video I’ve ever heard. Perfect articulation of how it feels to watch home movies of when we were kids. That’s why I’m doing the same for my daughter but in 4k on a Sony A7Siii, but at the same time I really want to find my dads old camcorder and record on there too.
Hey! Your video really hit home for me. I've been into documenting my life for a while, and your insights just made it even more valuable. Watching from Iran, and I gotta say, your enthusiasm is infectious! Keep doing your thing and spreading those positive vibes. Excited to see more from you! 🌟📹
This is really inspirational for me, you just made me loose all of my public embarrassment for shooting videos in public, and now I actually want to go out and use my camera equipment to make memories. Thank you. 😢
Damn how did I fell on this video ? This year has I turned 25 I decided I would document my life and each year of the rest of it , because .. everything you said ! And has I’m selling all my stuff , having has well a quarter life crisis , leaving in a month with a one way ticket , I suddenly don’t feel so alone in all this . Beautiful thank you ❤
This is exactly why I want to document my life digitally. So I can have memories to look back on, good and the bad. To look back and say hey I did this or I did that. Unfortunately, I don’t have any childhood videos, but to have memories to share with my children/family if Im blessed to have one of my own will be such a wonderful moment and conversation starter❤.
man im going through the before your ticket fase, never been much into uploading anywhere, but been thinking of recording the day to day to, thank you, you just helped me snap out of the doom
I watched the video because the title intrigued me ... not looking at any count or such. Wow, such an amazing storytelling! It's wonderful - hats off and good luck on the project. I'd love to try something similar.
Mate... this video is what I was needing. It's so fricking inspiring and motivating. I've been recently second guessing myself and feeling low but this gave me enormous amount of energy and inspiration! Thank you so much for you work and please post more!
This was a thoughtful essay and it hit home. I was the nutty kid with the 8 mm movie camera going everywhere with me back in the 19 70s. Accessing those moving memories today is a blessing.
There's something so honest, raw, and nostalgic about your work, and it's really beauitful. I'm glad this showed up in my recommended Side note: before the RRC badge showed up, during the forest scenes I thought to myself "that looks a lot like Winnipeg"; I spent a lot of time in the Winnipeg forests as a kid. Gave me whiplash to immediately find out it was Winnipeg, lol. I can't say I recall ever seeing that scultpure, I moved away probably a decade or so ago, but maybe that's what gave it away subconsciously. Anyway, it's nice to see such an awesome creator coming from my old city
Beautifully shot and great advice; I love the nostalgic feel in the intro as well. I love to document whatever I can of my daughter and family for the same eventual feeling that hopefully they can look back on it and have it for their sake. Liked and subbed, can't wait to see more.
This is really cool! I think the hardest part is to put myself even in this mindset! I mean, as for what to record and when... But maybe if I'd push myself to do it, eventually it would become more natural. That "excited dad with a film camera" mindset. I think it's hard because we're so overburdened with an information flow already that we rather scale back than immerse ourselves in it. But it's frustrating because I *want* to do this stuff. It's super valuable in several years and often even appreciated by those who don't know you that well. It's an unfiltered peek into someone else's life. And that has become a rarity today.
Thanks for the kind words, I agree it is tough to make yourself do it. When I was shooting it all last summer I kinda felt like I was being annoying occasionally or like I wasn't even sure how it was all going to come together but the cool thing is that whatever you capture, it IS going to be valuable to look back on, for you and for the people in your life. I get what you're saying about the oversaturation of information online right now, but it felt nice to try and capture everyday things with a bit more of an artistic eye, and using my camera instead of my phone sorta distanced myself from the "social media influencer-ness" of it all. It felt more like I was capturing something important, because it was important to *me*.
Your visual images are extraordinary. I agree that people can get a lot of enjoyment and benefit from making videos. I have been making and posting at least one video a week for the last 16 years. Most of it was therapy. Making videos every week grounded me during times when my world was turned upside down. Along the way, it has been a lot of fun. I think it's great you are encouraging people to make videos. You never know who your videos will inspire or what will they encourage others to do. I subscribed.
My grandparents literally recorded everything my mom did growing up, from baby until she went off to college, the little project ends with her graduating college. It's really cool to see my mom in so many different stages of her life and how awesome it is to get to watch something like that. This video resparked my creative itch and I think I'll start doing this with my own life, either that, or when I have kids, do the same thing my grandparents did with my mom. It's so amazing
Thanks to the algorithm I ended up watching this gem, this got me thinking how similar we both are at least in our experience recording chapters of our life and having them to watch all over again, now I have the quarter life crisis too and quit my job searching more of life, I´m a videographer and I do commercials and stuff but in México. Hope you´re doing okay, now I´m subscribed I´ll be waiting for more content keep it up!
Fellow Winterpegger here. Nice to see these familiar scenes put together into such great vid. I quit my "job" a couple of years ago. It can be hard but also very rewarding. Good luck!✌️
This was awesome. I so wish I had videos of me and my family growing up. I feel like you had so much growth with just a camera in your hand capturing all of your moments. Definitely going to strive for this!
This video really touched my heart. You showing those videos your parents took in your childhood reminded me of my parents recording me at that time. Always brings back those memories. I'm looking forward into getting a camera myself, I will definitely try that out - recording random things which might seem normal/random at that time.
WOW! Just WOW! I was watching my own life story on this video. I'm a filmmaker from Brazil, and I record as much as I can from my family, my kids. I want to give then this "time travel machine" as my father gave me. I really hope you continue your project, and that you live those moments as intensly as possible. Subscribed, and I can't wait to watch all your videos!
this is my first time seeing your video and it's really amazing. Sometimes, I wish I had videos of my childhood tho. So, I can look back. Idk man you're living your best life and that's amazingggggg.
Thx! You really ignite my passion for recording my life again! And also traveling is indeed such a great thing to make transformative experiences and memories in the only-once life. Love it! Thank you!!🫰
What a masterpiece of teaching! I sold my camera a couple months ago. I used to take pictures and videos all the time but suddenly personal and family issues started to crumble and stop doing it. I know someday I'll come back at it but need dont have the money yet. Thanks for keeping the spark!
I love this so much! As someone who got into videos for the past couple of years, this made me emotional. PIctures just don't give the memories justice. I try filming even just a few seconds of what's going on with my life and when I look back and watch them, it makes me feel like I was re-living that moment :)
Wow! 3 videos and you have 4K views. Well done! Thanks for sharing this. I can relate in many ways even though I have sons your age. We've been trying to build a UA-cam channel for 3 years now, and there are so many times that I ask, "Why am I doing this?'" But, we've documented our travels and our experiences and in the end, we'll have these videos and memories forever. Quit your job, get out and travel and film the beauty... wish someone had told me that when I was your age. Well done! I look forward to your next video.
Wow thanks for the kind words stranger, that's truly the essence of it though, if it's something you'll value in a year or 10 years or 20 then it's worth recording. I only make these youtube videos because I enjoy the process and enjoy having them to look back on, but it makes it all the more worth it when it resonates with other people. That's what keeps me going!
This is so inspiring! Love all the footages especially the color grading. I document our travels but recently started documenting the daily mundane life and your video inspires me so much. “Making poetry out of your own memories.” LOVE THAT! Waiting on your next video! 🎉
Honestly I love the choice of sizing when it came down to framing the pictures. You decided to put the fast in a SMALL FRAME and increased it accordingly to how close it was to the PRESENT. Honestly I’m going to use this in my next video

i'm a creator who just started last week. saw some early traction, but that's plateau'd now. i am so inspired seeing - and being reminded - that we all come from somewhere. i started this channel as a way to find some form of fulfillment in things i love most - cooking and storytelling. every day - i ask myself: how do i feel turning a hobby into a job? what am i hoping to get out of this? part of that meaning is to show other people my thoughts and snippets and part of someone else's life that they normally would never see. that's what i'm hoping to achieve out of this. other days, i don't feel so inspired. i feel apathetic. and it hurts. but this pushes me to keep going. videos like these push me to keep going. it's a source of intrinsic motivation - sometimes all we want to do is sit back and watch what other people think about life. cheers - happy 2024!

I really enjoyed this!
Thanks for sticking your neck
and sharing.
Best,
Steve
A video that in its straight-forwardness and honesty cointains much more poetry than many staged acts. congrats.
Thank you. 😢
This was inspiring! From the story telling to the color grading. Everything was on point! Can't wait to see more!
Beautiful thank you ❤
real ppl telling real stories, and they rly do touch deeply, thank u Sean!
100% resonate with the idea of filming as "outwitting time." gorgeous video! thanks for the inspo!
This was the best watch in the internet today! 🍿🤸♂
Would love to see more of you doing the thing which you love.
I'm glad this showed up in my recommended
Side note: before the RRC badge showed up, during the forest scenes I thought to myself "that looks a lot like Winnipeg"; I spent a lot of time in the Winnipeg forests as a kid.
Hope to see more films like this on your channel. This is sooo wonderful ... and being a documentarian myself ... I totally get it!
Your story telling ability is impeccable!! Thanks for the inspiration!
Well done Sean, this was inspiring. Thanks for sharing. 😊
that ending view was stunning
This was awesome. I so wish I had videos of me and my family growing up. I feel like you had so much growth with just a camera in your hand capturing all of your moments. Definitely going to strive for this!
This video deserves at least a million views. It's the best video I have seen on UA-cam recently
This video is so good, man. The solo trip is such an important experience. Thanks for sharing with us.
The way it should be done. I look forward to see what you collect and put together when you do get back. This was an awesome piece of work.
You went above and beyond with this video! My favourite was the grayscale phone tip! Great tips!
I was NOT ready for that ending. Thank you for the inspiration.
As a father who loves to capture his son's moments, this video is exactly what I want.
The way he documenting since his childhood to inspire us to document our life, is like gold
Love it! Thank you!!🫰
this is beautiful!!! that last 40ish seconds of shots were perfection
What a masterpiece of teaching! I sold my camera a couple months ago. I used to take pictures and videos all the time but suddenly personal and family issues started to crumble and stop doing it. I know someday I'll come back at it but need dont have the money yet. Thanks for keeping the spark!
You're a great story teller, enjoy your adventures!
🍄💚
So important to document life because so easily we can forget where we came from, thanks for the reminder.
I just took your advice and uploaded my first short film, thanks for inspiring creators all around the world
I love this so much! As someone who got into videos for the past couple of years, this made me emotional. PIctures just don't give the memories justice. I try filming even just a few seconds of what's going on with my life and when I look back and watch them, it makes me feel like I was re-living that moment :)
I love the creative vision you're building man
Great work, Sean. The storytelling, the editing, and the beautiful imagery inspire me to up my game. Best wishes from an old Aussie.
Honestly I love the choice of sizing when it came down to framing the pictures. You decided to put the fast in a SMALL FRAME and increased it accordingly to how close it was to the PRESENT. Honestly I’m going to use this in my next video
I was thinking about to record myself what I do and what I am... But I thought uts impossible for a first timer to do it in a perfect shot... I myself is a cinematograoher but when I turned the tables and came in front I am blank... Searching for the inspiration and I found you....
Now I think I have found my inspiration frame... Will record soon...
Love from India 🇮🇳... Have fun keep pushing that record button..
This is so soothing and inspiring! looking forward to see more of your works :)
i like how the aspect ratio and the actual quality of the footage was getting better as you were growing. from your dad's vhs to 4k today's cameras.
Hey Sean. You are so underrated. Thanks for telling your story. I hope the best for you.
Not sure how I stumbled upon this video, but I know the universe made this happen. Really needed to see this as inspiration and motivation to keep documenting my life. Such a great video. 😊
Thank you for sharing : Like 201 for you : I wish you a wonderful day : Greetings from Poland
I started documenting my life but now just the editing is my challenge. Thank you so much for sharing, good shots and storytelling.
Love it!
I have old tapes recorded by my parents and a bunch of Gb of videos.
I should get to it and try to make it look as amazing as your work!
I have always wanted to document my life; I always loved seeing old photos from when I was a kid. I don't really have videos, so I always wonder if I should do it to have something to rely on when my memories start to fade. Thank you for inspiring me and so many other people to do it. Your words made a huge impact on me.
Whoa. This may be the most inspiring 7 minutes I've seen on UA-cam in a long time. Super glad we came across your profile. Can't wait to see more from your adventures. Cheers.
One of best videos I have ever watched on UA-cam. thanks man. love from India.
It's so good to have such valueable memory videos I just have some old pictures and memories in my mind. You're so luck.
Thanks for the great video! Enjoy your trip, looking forward to seeing the footage later
Wow!!! that's some storytelling. Looking forward to more videos!!
Wow that last shot was eepic! Very inspiring video, thank you
"documenting your life, is like making poetry out of your own memories" 5:13
Bro you are amazing at telling stories! I have no idea why you don’t have more subscribers
Bro that was hot - enjoy life to the fullest on your time. I support that - peace and blessings
Damn, that was really stunning Sean! WOW
You got yourself a new subscriber and a supporter. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos
I’m in the same page. My airplane ticket and my camera are in my bag. Thank you for this video. It made me feel even better with my decision. Wishing you all the best.
No way, you popped up on my feed, and I was like wait a minute, I just met this fella on set like a month ago.... could it be?! IT IS!!
Dude you crushed this one. great work.
Hahah small world, thanks so much and I appreciate you giving it a watch!
Enjoyed this! Makes me want to go digitize our family's old home videos asap
i'm a creator who just started last week. saw some early traction, but that's plateau'd now. i am so inspired seeing - and being reminded - that we all come from somewhere.
i started this channel as a way to find some form of fulfillment in things i love most - cooking and storytelling. every day - i ask myself: how do i feel turning a hobby into a job? what am i hoping to get out of this?
part of that meaning is to show other people my thoughts and snippets and part of someone else's life that they normally would never see. that's what i'm hoping to achieve out of this.
other days, i don't feel so inspired. i feel apathetic. and it hurts. but this pushes me to keep going. videos like these push me to keep going. it's a source of intrinsic motivation - sometimes all we want to do is sit back and watch what other people think about life.
cheers - happy 2024!
Found this video in my recommended and was blown away by the message here. Add on that you’re from Manitoba! Awesome to see creators from this province.
Also, out of curiosity, what camcorder was that in the beginning?
Thanks for the kind words fellow Manitoban haha, oh and as for the camcorder I think it's the "Hitachi VM-D865LA" but that just what I gather from what's written on it
Lovely video! A lot of it resonates with me especially as I just started vlogging haha, capturing daily snapshots is awesome!
Love this- dude the footage at the end. So beautiful
hey congrats man, this is very well done. I really enjoyed the video combined with the things that you said. Thanks for sharing!
this is incredible, you.. you soemhow made me feel as if im in there, the montage, the music, its amazing man! Love this video!!!
Dude! Great video! Love the style. We need more films with meaning from filmmakers who are obsessed.
Dude the ending of this was SO good! I hope I can document something as cool as this one day for my kid 😢
