    I worked for an outfit based in Southern NM, and we resurfaced a pool in Lake Placid. we used a gun to spray our chop and resin all at once. It's cool watching it done by hand.

    What a superb video!! Thanks!! I do have one question, though.... I was under the impression that a fibreglass pool required bracing to stop it from caving in once the water has been emptied from it?? Why did you not have to brace this pool before commencing the job?

      @@dalekoehn4691, do you use a specific resin for the CSM? I used some Bondo Fiberglass Resin with 1708 to repair a couple holes, but it looks much thicker than what you're applying, and seems like it would be hard to spread and get smooth with a roller. Any advice on where I can find what you use? Thank you!

      @dalekoehn4691  2 роки тому +1

      @@jamieverley I use a low profile laminating resin. The Bondo resins that I have seen is a gel and not good for much of anything in my opinion. The best place to find Resin is a Marine supply store or a Fiberglass supply outlet store if one exist in your area. Good luck in your search.

      @@patrickcollins9845 Oh, yes you can go that way. We do not apply Fiberglass mats onto all pools that we do. The reason we applied the fiberglass mats in the video was to show how to go about if it is needed. The only reason we will glass is if we find many, many small blisters the size of pencil erasers, to many to try to fix, on the surfaces. The Fiberglass mats will act as a barrier to keep the small blisters from opening up. Hope this helps you out.

    • @dalekoehn4691
      @dalekoehn4691  2 роки тому

      Jay, I would say not to use the resin putty on concrete. Do you have a concrete pool that has been fiberglassed over? I have not seen blisters on a concrete pool, unless the concrete was fiberglassed, there are some companies that do the fiberglass overlay. Polyester resins will not bond to concrete, so there would be delamination of the putty from the concrete. Hope this helps answer your question.

      You could do it, but the issue is that the Fiberglass and resins will not bond well to the concrete. We repair a lot of pools that have had fiberglass layered on concrete done by a company and the fiberglass releases from the concrete. We have seen where you could pull the fiberglass loose by hand from the concrete. It is best to just stay with your concrete pool with no Fiberglass added to it.

    • @dalekoehn4691
      @dalekoehn4691  2 роки тому

      I drain the water down to about 2/3 empty of water first. I then get into the pool and feel if there is any water under the pool. If no drain pocket is there, then I take long drill bits and drill 1/2" holes through the fiberglass into the ground. This process will make the hydrostatic pressures the same on both sides of the pool and ground and then we can keep pumping with out worry the rest of the water and the pool stays in place. Hope this answers your question.

      No, we don't thin our gelcotes at all.

    Where were you when I had mine done?? The guy that did ours stopped after the fiberglass. NO GELCOAT!!

      I cannot understand why anyone would apply fiberglass and resins to a pool surface and not coat the fiberglass with something to seal the surface of the pool. They must have no experience with working with fiberglass laminates and coatings.

      I’m very curious. How is your pool doing w/o the gelcoat on it?

      @@danielle22226 I may NOT have the correct language, but,,, We had many black spots popping up inside our fiberglass pool. From one year to the next they doubled in numbers and size. We hire a company who explained to us what it was and what it was called. They drained the pool. Ground the entire interior of the pool. Ground out all these black spots and any blisters. Let it all dry. Filled anyplace that was ground deep into the fiberglass and then put (1) layer of fiberglass with some (white in color), resin that came in 5 gallon buckets on the walls and bottom rolling it all in with rollers and what they called a PIN ROLLER to get any bubbles out. It was very coarse. Next time I went out back, they were filling the pool and said they were done.... You can still see the fiberglass sheet and it is still very rough and now, 4-5 years later, the black spots are coming back..... (We had issues with these black spot right away, but they did fix them). Still, there is no gel coat and we could never get them to fix or finish it.
      Before anyone says: CALL A LAWYER, lawyers cost FAR MORE than I would ever get out of this failing company.. I would really like to have it done by someone who knows what they are doing and that will make it like NEW!!!
      Ps. They called the black spots COBALTING....

      @@SteveP-vm1uc wow, how long did they let it dry before filling it?

      @@danielle22226 I don't remember exactly, but the same afternoon they finished sanding the steps, they were already filling the pool... I questioned it, but they said it flashed very fast, so no worries. Hell, they had the deep end full to about 3 feet while one guy was cleaning up and the other was touching up the top edge.. This truly pissed me off. Their website said 3 coats and the last two were leveling and color. It was supposed to be BLUE!! To add insult to injury, they covered over the skimmer flange. So to change anything there it has to be ground out.. Guess who's WEIR VALVE is shot!! (This weir valve snaps into 2 curved fingers on each side. New weir door doesn't stat in place as the fingers are worn out).
