Eddie Murphy was an R rated comedian/actor before he went on a family film slide. I highly recommend Trading Places next, especially for the Holiday Season!
Yeah, I liked Eddie a lot better during that phase in his career. Had all his comedy tapes, which you couldn't play even 5 seconds of around the parents. Even his final Beverly Hills Cop movie had lost so much of the character.
When Reinhold (Rosewood) and Ashton (Taggart) were auditioning for their roles, Reinhold came up with the idea that since they are partners, they should behave as an old, married couple. He then picked up a health magazine and started to read it randomly (the five pounds of red meat stuff). Ashton got the picture and started to behave annoyed and angry. They delivered it so good that not only they got the parts, the gag was included in the script.
@@glenncabacungan9269 Interestingly, Stallone was first cast for the role of Foley, but he had such over-the-top ideas that were considered either too expensive or simply stupid. One of the great "cop" movies ever. Eddie Murphy is one of the funniest people to ever walk the earth. Absolute classic, and a fantastic reaction! I'm so glad you liked it, this was a fun watch!
"Neutron Dance" by The Pointer Sisters was a popular song in this. Eddie is so good being undercover since his character is from the streets. He always busts the bad guys at the end. The older cop is the bad guy in Robocop.
Victor's henchman, who killed Axel's friend, is played by Jonathan Banks who also plays the role of the reluctant bad guy Mike Ehrmantraut on "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul." Those are two amazing shows with some of the best writing and acting in a modern TV show and Banks is really solid. Watch "Breaking Bad" first if you are interested.
Fun fact. In these movies Eddie Murphy improves a lot of his lines in scenes or improvises scenes in general! They might be in the script or they might be improvised. Most of them are. Eddie’s a legend
The Theme Song is so good. It's the only song that I never got sick of even though they probably over played it for some people. To this day it sounds just as fresh as the first time I heard it. The real crazy thing is that it's in a genre that I typically don't like.
When I was in grade school in the late 80s a group came to the school to demenstrate electronic music instruments. They showed how one guy can play every part of that song and we were all blown away.
Coming to America is an amazing Eddie Murphy movie worth checking out. Another recommendation I have is The Long Kiss Goodnight, a 1995 action movie starring Geena Davis and Samuel L Jackson.
Scuttlebutt is that getting chew out by him in real life was just like in the movie only with less cursing. Somehow I have my doubts. About the "less cursing".

This was the first Eddie Murphy film I saw, ironically it was released the year I was born. Originally the film was written to be a Sylvester Stallone action film, all the comedy dialogue was improvised after casting Murphy. So there were dramatic scenes with comedic dialogue. The Second and third were written to be more comedic scenes. But you have to watch the second and third films to see the difference. At 23:12 when Chief Hubbard ask if he’s the man who wrecked the buffet that was sarcastic question.
I've always wondered why someone has not yet done a prequel show/movie called "Axel Foley" that explores Axel's younger life. There is so much potential there.
One of my favorite movies and my favorite Eddie Murphy movie. The actor who played Inspector Todd, Axel's boss, was actually a real Detroit cop. You should definitely check out Beverly Hills Cop 2.
Omg.. CLASSIC…. XD So one note: When Axel checks into the hotel in Beverly Hills, the front desk girl looks up his reservation on a computer system. That wouldn’t be unusual *today* , but back then, the majority of hotels around the country would have probably used physical logbooks for records. The implication, along with how nice the lobby looked, was that this was a *fancy* (expensive) hotel. Even more so with the entire police department being computerized. In many of these scenes, Eddie Murphy was given free rein to improvise. The director would instruct the other actors to just try to impede Murphy by behaving like hotel staff, concierges, maître ds, etc. and Murphy would just come up with different ways to try to bluff past them. Buffet plate being $12.50. Back then a lunch plate where I lived was $3.99 and that was high.
Now imagine how those Eddie Murphy improv scenes would've turned out had they been performed by Sylvester Stallone, the actor that was originally cast as Axel Foley in this movie? (It's true! Stallone was the producer's first choice for the lead role!)
yea today a basic buffet would be 13 bucks. The higher end ones, like that one back then were the very high rated buffets, including steaks, seafood, and other things. These days those buffets run 50-100 bucks.
On how easy it is for Axel to talk his way into things: Before 9/11 the world was very different. People were a lot less concerned with being careful about things like ID. It wasn't as easy as Eddie Murphy makes it look, of course, but it was a lot easier than now.
It's not overly difficult even now. As long as you act like you're supposed to be there and don't make unreasonable demands, most people tend to buy it. It's herd mentality I guess. Same as when people apologize to the twitter mobs for nothing. Folks just don't want to be hassled. Granted in a high security area it would be more difficult, but that's always been the case. For most places though, once you're inside the perimeter, the lower level people will just go with it. You only start getting in trouble when dealing with supervisors. I have an an uncle that has gotten by in life solely by pulling cons like that. It is astonishing what you can get by with having the right attitude, enough nerve, and lack of any sense of shame or remorse..
Duaffy being introduced to all the hallmark of 80s action movies in one great movie: car chases with random property destruction, the hero hurled through a ground level window for no real reason, and fast-talking your way into free hotels, food, etc.
Bearer Bonds were a financial instrument that were worth a set amount (much like a savings bond at full value) but were not registered to any individual. The "Bearer" of the bond, the one holding it, was presumed to be the owner and could redeem it at any financial institution. They haven't really been used since 2010
Fun Fact: Eddie Murphy got the role of Axel Foley after Sylvester Stallone turned it down. Before this Eddie Murphy had only done comedy, this was his first action movie. If you go back and watch it again you can see Eddie closing his eyes whenever he shoots his gun. His excuse was "Guns are loud." I cannot imagine thismovie with Stallone in the lead.

Axel Foley's "charming Con-man Hero" character is SUCH fun to watch! It totally makes Beverly Hills Cop (1 & 2) as great as it is. Glad you seemed to enjoy it as well. Oh, an the joke where he acted like he was Victor's gay lover & said he had "Herpes Symplex 10", if even MORE funny when you realize it just means he has a Canker sore (or cold sore?). Great reaction. But honestly, I was laughing at your laugh. I realized it’s similar to Eddie’s laugh. When he and you both laugh it cracks me up. 😂👏🏽👍🏽
The thing that Axel does in the warehouse, where he pretends to be an investigator, is actually a very common form of "social hack." So common it even has a name: The Bavarian Fire Drill. People are trained from childhood to respond to authority figures with obedience, and the Bavarian Fire Drill is a form of con where you act like an authority figure and keep barking out orders at people so that they act on their instinct to obey rather than stop and think about what they are doing. If you do it with confidence, it's amazingly effective.
This, 'Trading Places' & 'Coming to America' are my three favorite Eddie Murphy movies. All from the 1980's. As I recall, Sylvester Stalone was supposed to star in this movie but he couldn't do it so they went with Eddie Murphy.

Another fun fact the actor who played the guy who gave foley the bananas is named Damon Wayans he's the younger brother of Keenan Ivory Wayans who is best friends with Eddie Murphy and that's how he got in the movie , also the older brother of Shawn and Marlon Wayans who did the scary movie movies
I love your reaction to this movie. You got into it, you freely laughed at the funny stuff, and you were shocked by the shocking stuff. Exactly how it should be. It's nice to see a somebody watch a great movie and share real reactions.
Another fun fact the actor who played Foley's boss was actually a real cop and a captain in the Detroit Police department and he said he never screamed and yelled and cursed at the cops that worked under him and he did in the movie he also ran for mayor of Detroit but lost
One thing most people don't think about when they meet is their background and how much of their experience is the reason for what the occupation they have is shaped by that. This movie shows three childhood friends that grew up in very rough streets. One went to California and became the director of an upscale art gallery, one became a cop, and one stayed in the criminal underworld. They stayed a family but took different paths in life, and the story bears that connection between them out. As for not wanting Foley to investigate the case... Foley could not be objective because of that personal investment and as a witness, his testimony would be thrown out since it will be corrupted by his investigation and personal involvement and altering his views on the facts of the case. If Maitlan guards had not started a firefight and Maitlan would have been brought to trial then Foleys' investigation would have been thrown out and only Maitlans' defense teams' version of events concerning the physical evidence would be considered in the case. In short, most likely, Maitlan would have walked free. Oh, Jessie's testimony is highly questionable as her association with Foley and her fear that Foley and herself would be killed if she testified against him could destroy the case against Maitlan. This may sound unfair, but if you think of the flipside of the situation and consider that someone gets murdered in Detroit and the immediate evidence points to Maitlan but he's innocent, all you would have is Bearer Bonds and cocaine being smuggled but the owner might know nothing of what his employees were doing. Something, in real life, happened similar to this with a large tech company and all evidence pointed to the owner and CEO until it was found that the ringleader was not even an employee of the company. Turns out that she was not just involved in smuggling drugs but in human trafficking and the CEO helped in taking her and her operation down. I'm so sorry for the long comment but it kind of grew as I was typing.
I don't like coffee with lemon juice, but a little lemon extract is fine in a cafe au lait, especially with a dash of sugar. You get the lemon cream thing going, with the coffee as a bass note. (Of course whatever form of lemon you are using, if you have it with milk or cream, you must avoid having the milk curdle. So lemon extract, not lemon juice.)
8:56 Bronson Pinchot also was in a TV series Perfect Strangers with Larry Appleton from March 25, 1986, to August 6, 1993, on the ABC television network here in the USA.

This, 'Trading Places' & 'Coming to America' are my three favorite Eddie Murphy movies. All from the 1980's.
As I recall, Sylvester Stalone was supposed to star in this movie but he couldn't do it so they went with Eddie Murphy.
Duaffey, you should look into Second Hand Lions. You would really enjoy that movie!
Yes, Second Hand Lions is an excellent recommendation. I totally agree it is a wonderfully entertaining film.
Agree one thousand percent!!!
A great comedy movie with the Judge Reinholdt (the actor who plays Billy) is Ruthless People.
It also stars Danny De Vito and Bette Midler.
Duaffys laugh is instant Serotonin for my brain.
9:20 'I don't drink coffee, I take tea, my dear.'
14:47 "Another Mario Kart level" Lol
18:05 Oh, my... the best reaction ever! :)
28:37 That is Axel's laugh 15:12
Espresso with a lemon twist is actually quite popular in Italy. It's called an Espresso Romano.
Duaffy's laugh is so cute.
pretty much Duaffy everything is very cute
OMG the 80's had Awesome films... Animal House, Stripes, Ghostbusters, Caddyshack, The Breakfast Club, Fast Times at Ridgemont High... and Many, Many, Many More...
Axl never saw the guy who offed Mikey. He got knocked out from behind
Very good reaction. Really enjoyed your laugh! lol
That little laugh of yours! 😍
Time for “Beverly Hills Cop 2” to up the ante of the Axel Foley sequels.
Axel didn't see the guys that killed Mikey. They hit him from behind.
8:56 Bronson Pinchot also was in a TV series Perfect Strangers with Larry Appleton from March 25, 1986, to August 6, 1993, on the ABC television network here in the USA.
Duaffy: “Cmon, everyone knows what you’re doing.”
Officer: What the hell is he doing ?
Also Duaffy: “I don’t know.”
One of the all-time greats. God, I forgot that Bronson Pinchot was in this, it's been so long.
I'd love to see you do the Star Trek "Genesis" Trilogy. Also Logan, or the Thin Red Line.
8:54 This guy was in a really good sitcom that ran for 7 years called Perfect Strangers.
I'm upticking this before I've even watched. It's going to be goooood.
5:42 WTF!!! Mike from Breaking Bad?? WITH HAIR????? 🤣
I love your hands. Really natural finger nails. Wonderful!
Great and fun movie. Thanks for sharing. Saw this in the theater. Trivia: yes there was a time when Detroit detectives were authorized to carry a Browning Hi Power.
"Watermelons, bananas, fruit in general..." I'm still laughing about that. Love this video.
Damon Wayans' first role, thanks to Eddie Murphy.
Billy's actor was in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982).
In the new Venom sequel, Eddie Brock is wearing the same “Mumford Phys. Ed” t-shirt as Axel. He also wears a Detroit Lions jacket, like in Beverly Hills Cop II.
Duaffy: You're going to Beverly Hills?
Alex: What gave it away?
Eddy Murphy movies were all misses with me, but I did like this one. Also, Eddy had a hit record in 1985 Party all the time. Great song.
You will love the second movie too. Axel returns with all of his bullshit! 😂 Great Job!
BevCopII is fun. III is utter shite.
"How the Fuck do you steal a house? This is, my uncle's house."
3:08, yes, 10 months ago you saw Paul Riser in "Aliens". Thankfully, he returned to comedies later.
Duaffy: On Billy, "You're going to be the banana guy for the rest of your life"
Me: Smiling as I remember Billy's hobbies in Beverley Hills Cop II
I think Billy in BH cop 2 is the best character arch ever.
The red leather 'suit' was almost exactly what Eddie Murphy wore for his first stand up: Delirious. He was literally laughing at his old-self
-You should sing more😊
I like your voice, but hell, EVERYONE should sing more
Watching this reaction was so much fun! I saw this and it's sequel in the movie theater as a preteen. Nice to see it through younger eyes.
Gold Star on your reaction Duaffy. You had fun with this flick.
Fun fact: the captain is actual Detroit PD.
I'm so glad you chose this one! I love this character so much that the music from this movie remains to this day my ring tone on my phone.
Part 2 is also great.
The most difficult part of your reactions is trying to decide whether to pay attention to the epic/classic/legendary movies...or to your insanely adorable reaction to them. You're a rockstar girl. Keep doing what you do!
The next two are pretty funny and entertaining as well; the Bad Boys and Rush Hour trilogies are worth watching as well
1. GOOF: An entire truck loaded with EMPTY cigarette boxes.🙄
2. IMVHO Eddies' best movies are "Trading Places and "Coming to America"😎😎
3. Serge/Bronson Pinchot was in a short lived series "Perfect Strangers".
4. Jenny/Jill Eikenberry played Segar in "An Officer and a Gentleman" HINT HINT
5. One of the best bad guys ever!😁
Let's do the dance of joy
Axel Foley laughs at the 2 people in leather suits is funny because he wore the same kind of suit for one of his comedy specials, Delirious.
GREAT choice!!! Not many folks reacting too it :) CANT WAIT! A+ 😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂
YES! Using those bananas is TOTALLY a Mario Kart move! 🤣
You should do "golden child". I haven't seen any one do a reaction on it yet
I also vote for Trading Places and Coming to America as great Eddie Murphy movies to put on your list to watch!
