January 2024: I grew up listening to this due to my sisters obsession with his poems. Now that I’ve reached adulthood his poem really resonates with me, and gives me the strength to continue in a world filled with oppression.
Facts couldn’t believe I see new comments on this lol so many def jam poetry sets hit right now. Pats Justice innocent criminal feels so relevant today

whats amazing is the fact that SO many people have made comments about how great this guy is and how amazing the poem is! Yet, not many have actually realised the real inspiration and influence of this guy, is Allah{God} and the religion of Islam! Study islam and maybe you'll be as blessed like him! All Praise and Glory is for Allah! May Allah bestow his blessings on Amir Sulaiman, insha'Allah.
As so many years pass by you hope lines like that become nothing but history, for us to remind the younger generations the pain and meaning of. Those younger generations shouldn't have to live that pain firsthand.
i strive to place myself between the zeal of the young and the patience of the old.... i have seen this maybe 20 times and everytime i see it i almost cry. from the aggression, the passion, the soul, the frustration, and 10 other emotions i dont know the name to. thank u
The only sad part about this poems and others like it is that the mass public will never hear it nor do they want to. It's easy to play deaf and dumb because knowing the truth is a responsibility. Great vid. Thanks for the post

It's not about living as a victim, its about making people aware of the injustice and trying to change it. Racism is still alive. People just conceal it. He is taking advantage of opportunity thats why he is up on stage speaking.
@boubandtudy it's poetry, sometimes the only way to get your point out as to scream. Poetry is simply conveying emotions, feelings in words to make a point. And that's what makes it so powerful, you can almost "feel" the person's words.
I really don't understand all the malicious negative feed back it is a universal message to strive for freedom and to get rid of corruption. Don't be ignorant take time to listen and try to see the world out of other peoples lives who are less fortunate and apply the message to them

I agree... but I like Amir the most... he's from rochester, I'm from rochester, he's muslim I'm muslim. Hell I did a piece about war and slavery and faith... shook the audience up in a good way and some one made a good horrible mistake.... "Oh my god, I love you... you're the poet from HBO, Naseer Sulaiman...." Just shook my head and corrected the woman.

I'm a white male and this is by far my favorite poem from that season of Def Poetry. Spoken Word is meant to breathe emotion and soul into the words!
