      I’m definitely biased but I think Wales is beautiful! I have always wanted to visit New England though, especially at this time of year 🍂. Thanks for watching James! I really appreciate it!

    Well done Chris . Number 2 for me. Patience: more important than gear!

      Thanks so much Tim! Number 2 for me as well! You're absolutely right, I wasn't even thinking about my gear when taking these images - it was just thinking about the exposure triangle and that isn't specific to any one particular camera - they all do the same thing at the end of the day!

    Photo 2 is my favourite, something about that glowing light descending on the landscape for a fleeting moment.

      Thanks so much for watching! Image 2 is my favourite as well! As you say, that moment of light has a quality to it that’s hard not to like 👌🏻

    Hi Chris.
    I preferred the second picture because there was something a bit more ethereal about it and that element, given the location, made it work better when compared to the others. An image to be pleased with.

    Number 1 is my favourite. It shows better definition of the building and gravestones etc. in the foreground. The mist in the background also looks more ‘real’. But that is just my personal preference. Thank you for the advice and for sharing the shots.

      Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! I really appreciate your perspective! That is a quality I really like in that image, I thought the background mist created a lot of depth in the scene.

    Love all three of the images, it is special when the weather just opens up, almost as if it is just for you. Each has a mood and a hint to a different chapter of maybe a bigger story.

    • @chrisharveyphotography

      Thank so much mate! It really is, especially when it's so unexpected. I think in that location, the light breaking through holds special significance. I remember vividly the day of my grandmother's funeral - it was late November, cold, rainy, but as we gathered in the cemetery the same thing happened - the light just broke through. I'm not a religious person, but moments like that somehow seem profound.
      The bigger story is something I really want to develop and document here on the channel, I have a few narratives I want to explore in this area.

    Great images, as much as the sky is nicer in the 3rd I think the 2nd is a nicer photo overall. I feel the sky fits the foreground more and has more atmosphere to it. Great work.

      @chrisharveyphotography  2 місяці тому +1

      Thanks so much for the kind words on the photos - really appreciate you taking the time to watch the video. I think you're right, the sky in image 3 adds a lot of interest (It was the sky that led me to retake the photo at sunset). But image 2, as you say, I think is a nicer image as a whole. In my opinion, a great sky alone isn't enough.

      Thanks for watching Andy! #2 is my favourite too! The context is so important - you're right. All 3 images have aspects I like, but the fact that the conditions in the second image are close to what i'd pre-visualised for the scene makes it a standout winner for me.

    Thoughtful vid, Chris. Title a bit of click-bait😊. Take-always: persistence pays off (sometimes), and we photograph best things we care about most. Personal connection to a subject is a bonus - we instinctively want to render the subject the best way we can.
    Chasing good light is another sub-theme. Some standard weather apps (not for photographers, per se) offer a radar graphic showing cloud cover, along with a time-line. Click on the time line to get a fair idea of when there will be cloud openings at your location. What weather app do you use?
    Fav image is #3 - clouds add interest. Editing to adjust color would be key, IMO. (Perhaps less saturation in sky.) Photo #2 sky appears almost as blown out.
    Unnumbered pic w/side-lighting also rates high - thought that one would be in the final set.
    Cheers!

      @chrisharveyphotography  2 місяці тому +1

      Thanks Paul, glad you enjoyed this one - thanks for watching!
      I don't think it's click-bait, it's definitely a lesson that has led me to create better photos! 😉
      I use a few apps, mainly the one's I featured in my video a few weeks back (Clear Outside, Windy and the Met Office app). All of which were surprisingly accurate on this day! I was definitely losing hope but I'm glad I remained patient.
      Number 3 certainly needed a lot of work in post. Bracketed exposure for sky and midground and plenty of masking to help contour the light and create emphasis to certain aspects of the frame. The final image is fairly heavily desaturated - I think in future I'll also show the RAW files along with the final edit so you can see the before/after.
      Always great to hear your thoughts Paul! Enjoy the rest of your week 😊

      Thanks so much, really appreciate your support! Means a lot 🙏🏻. Number 2 was a winner for me, purely because it was closest to what i'd imagined for that scene when I first setup the composition. Removing that context - I think all 3 have their merits. Thanks for subscribing! Enjoy your weekend!

    My own personal taste is image No.1 It has the correct balance of Mist which makes it look good, and also It's worth mentioning your point about slowing down and taking your time, at my age that comes quite easily but you need to do this otherwise your compositions suffer.

    • @chrisharveyphotography
      @chrisharveyphotography  2 місяці тому +2

      Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave your thoughts regarding the photos! I completely agree, the misty quality of the valley in the background was what drew me to the scene in the first place. That's so true, slowing down is something i've worked hard on over the last year and it's definitely helping my photography.

    #3, I like the warmth and detail in the clouds...as I sit here in southern Indiana, USA with beautiful colors, but not a cloud in the sky for 28 days

      Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts on the photos! The clouds were amazing, right?! Like a fire in the sky - that's why I bracketed the exposure because I wanted to retain the character of the clouds!
      Wow, 28 days! I haven't seen blue sky in over a week here in North Wales - it's just cloudy every single day!

    Know that little church well, Chris - Llangollen is such a great area for photography. I've taken images from there for many years, but only been happy with shots from the Falls when they include that wonderful overhanging tree and some kayakers. Keep well.

      It really is, having spent my whole life visiting family there, i'm only now starting to explore it more photographically - kicking myself for not doing it sooner! I'll definitely be exploring it extensively over the coming months as i'm about to move into the area! Looking forward to it!
      You're absolutely right about the Falls, not an easy subject to compose and definitely benefits from some other points of interest!
      Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻

      Thanks Will! Really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment! 1 & 2 are definitely my favourites and I feel both have their merits! Especially as the quality of the mist in the distant valley in image 1 is what drew me to the scene initially - I just can't deny how great the light was in image 2 though.
