That no-push line at 3:45 is so amazing, how much air he got from just using the undulations of the terrain, and that back tail on a handrail going full speed. Penny is the greatest.
I started skating in 1995 -- the year that Flip Industry Section dropped in 411. The switch flip/back tail on a handrail line plus the switch f/s flip down Carlsbad were game changers. There was a two or three year run there where Tom Penny was at the top, alongside Guy Mariano and Koston. (Lennie Kirk was a serious force to be reckoned with as well; the Trilogy 101 team deserves honorable mention.) Geoff Rowley kind of gets glossed over during this period, but the shuv and 360 flip he did down the Oceanside set was incredible. 1994 I believe. The Flip team made everyone in the States step it up. I like Tom Penny and I appreciate what he did. I'm glad he's still skateboarding.
At 3:51. I remember this, it blew many pros' minds out in this old time. Because of no push, three switch tricks on high speed then kickflip was huge air hangtime, it was 3 steps but he landed like 8 yards away then a bs tail on high rail.. blew everyone out that something kids today don't get this.. good times..
AlkaShroom back in 2013 that comment was made, back in 2013 nyjah was the king of street league, tricks are harder and they make them look easy, in sure today someone of the same status “pro” can do the same line, it’s not that kids today or back then in 2013 didn’t appreciate it, it was just too simple of a line. I’d say that today’s amateurs are more consistent with their tricks and have a bigger bag of tricks to back it up with than the pros of the 90’s were, even in their prime. People are now doing rails longer and steeper than the Cardiel rail, and doing crooks and feebles down them. Not just 50’s and flip 5-0 taps at the end of it. Skateboarding has molded into something more difficult, there’s still style involved but its not a personal style like the Gonz or Tom penny or Mike V. Shit got heavy as the years passed binging in Jamie Foy, Nyjah Huston, Luan Oliveira, and Yuto Horigome. They land their heavy set of tricks with what looks like ease, if you want more style go on Instagram, there’s style everywhere but only single tricks with a splice after every gnar trick. We all looked up to someone from those days of mayhem and we owe it to them to push this activity/art/sport/love/craft even further to see what else is possible. Kids know what’s up today, we can reflect on the vhs days but they’re over, it’s time to move on, this is the now.
i remember seeing him at demos back in 95, and he was insane. always the show stealer. but when he moved back to europe in the late 90s, the stuff he came out with just wasnt the same. he really peaked in the mid 90s and lived off of that to this day, which he does deserve for what he did back then
For the hater chat....these tricks were done in such a consistent and fashionable way at the time.....you lil weasles talking down should be ashamed........I put my last dallor down that you are the Putos wearing tight jeans and standing still trying flip tricks ,doing your runs with not one ounce of style ...😴 .......penny they just dont know.....peace to the skaters out there who been there done that!!!!have fun and rip it up bras......
Penny’s style in terms of skating and clothes was great and is still great even now. He hasnt really changed his style. I do have to say Antwuan Dixon in his heyday had a style similar to pennys which is tough to re create considering how laid back the skate style is
I just watched more Penny footage in ten minutes than I had in my entire life previously. Every time they show footy of him when someone is talking about him in an interview or something its always the same like 7 clips
Unbelievable talent. I know there's enough people ridin his jock and shit. Mythologizing his talent but god damn ...so much board control, timing, flick. So much style and grace
you can see it at thecultoftom insta on a contest in 94 or 95. It's black regular pants and a grey sweater. Actually looks even better than the baggy stuff on his style

i cant think of anything more sought after than penny footage from the 90's. timeless.
and still is today

Lennie kirk's part in timecode was even crazier for the time I think.

Yea the fact that he was just able to vibe with the flow of the downhill and still pull off that line was so insane
@@theautisticowl7153 you miss the point and should just move on with what you like
@@trupiil dude wrote a whole essay on his opinion that doesn’t matter 😂
For sure the best ever style on a skateboard. He simply invented it before anyone even dreamt it would be possible.
this is so sick. his shifty flips though are ridiculous, he brings them all the way back.
When Christ made skateboarding---"He said Let there be Tom Penny "
How could someone dislike this video?Haters are everywhere. The guy is a living legend.
Best Switch Frontside Flips of all time. Period end of story!

Every now and then you remember that Tom Penny is the greatest skater since Mullen
Simply a genius on a board.

i remember seeing him at demos back in 95, and he was insane. always the show stealer. but when he moved back to europe in the late 90s, the stuff he came out with just wasnt the same. he really peaked in the mid 90s and lived off of that to this day, which he does deserve for what he did back then

It's been so long since I've seen that 411 sht.

such good fs flips and sw fs flips
I just watched more Penny footage in ten minutes than I had in my entire life previously. Every time they show footy of him when someone is talking about him in an interview or something its always the same like 7 clips
his one and only heelflip I've ever seen filmed is that at 6:42.
Yeah, best heel flip ever
...yeah, and it blasted to his feet, like ALL Penny flip tricks do!
I literally realised 20 minutes ago that i had never seen Tom heelflip, that I could remember.
He no doubt edited it out of his life in a list of 'shit tricks'. I mean, he made it look pretty good there, but it's SUCH an ugly trick.
Notice he dont ever slam, lol i think he just doing easy shit. easy for him anyway.
Unbelievable talent. I know there's enough people ridin his jock and shit. Mythologizing his talent but god damn ...so much board control, timing, flick. So much style and grace
@HomeSchooler94 he just became a drug victim but his pre-europe-return skating will remain the best ever done
really good video!

imagine if u saw tom penny wearing skinny jeans?
I've seen that, he was at a contest around 94' and he was wearing skinny pants
you can see it at thecultoftom insta on a contest in 94 or 95. It's black regular pants and a grey sweater. Actually looks even better than the baggy stuff on his style
