I can honestly say this game is trash. I played it when I was was young around 9 years old around 2009. I will say at times it was fun, other times it just got so fucking boring. The storyline was ok and I think being the head of a record label and being able to sign artists was cool in a way, but it was executed very poorly. I think they should’ve left off where you became the king of New York in Def Jam FFNY, and where you would be able to recruit fighters. That would’ve been way better. I will say that the customization on Def Jam icon for your character was somewhat good maybe not as good as Def Jam FFNY in certain areas like the Jewelry. But it was decent, like they had every single pair of Air Jordans in the game so I did like that lol 😂 and since I’m a sneaker head. Plus they had the Timberland boots in different colors lol. So my character was fresh as fuck lol 😂. But yeah back to the gameplay it just was poorly executed just like the storyline. There weren’t that many styles in the game. Yeah they had different styles but sometimes it would be hard to distinguish which style is which because the way the fighting mechanics is in this game which was ass looking back at it. I hate the fact that the Japanese company AKI who worked on the wrestling WWE games did not work on this game because I believe it would’ve been a lot better. The company that worked on this game just destroyed it completely. Plus they took out the blazing moves like why in the fuck would you take out the blazing moves!!! That was one of the the best parts of the fucking game SMH. Plus they took out Weapons,Special Attacks,Special moves,Finishing Moves,Finishers & more SMH. Plus they took out free for all, and they took out tag-teaming. And took out other game modes and a lot more stuff. This game is and was pure trash. I rest my case…. 😂
@@derekgoodejr8788good looking out my guy. I've been thinking about doing a retrospective on these games including the canceled games in the series AND talking about Def Jam twitter lying to us about a reboot. lol
It basically goes like this, if you want a fighting game with singers and you want it to play like how they really fight in real life, play Def Jam Icon. If you want the same game but the moves are over the top and over exaggerated, play Fight for NY or Vendetta.
To give it credit, Icon had some great ideas, like being able to sign artists, manage them and set budgets for their songs when they release, the customization was good, and the graphics were good. But the storyline was terrible and short af, plus there was only 27 or 28 characters in the whole game and the gameplay was slower and bland. To me the game was still enjoyable, but not great.
I remember when this first came out I was in denial because I thought the graphics were so fresh that I played it for hours even though the controls were trash. Me and my gf at the time played against each other all the time, that, saints row, and bioshock were the reason for all my red rings of death burning out my 360s lol
My friend played DJFFNY at my place and another frieds place, so he got this game. I was hyped to try it but called it trash after the first match, my friend was ticked of as he tried to convince himself it was good. It is funny how this game look so much more dated then the older games today.
To go through all the trouble to secure the likeness of all the characters alone (most of which are real life personalities) after 15 years? It would be easier just to make another entry with Doja Cat and Mega Thee Stallion.
I remember when this dropped my pops made me choose between this and NBA Street Homecourt. I chose Homecourt and ran with it. Played Icon later at my homie's house and I was so happy I didn't choose that game lmao. It was ok but the game just didn't hit for me. I used to play Fight For NY for HOURS. Like I was addicted to that game but with Icon after a few matches I was over it. Bought it for 3 dollars and played it during Lockdown and it was far worse than I remembered lmao.
i actually liked this game beside the camera angles the lightings and the slow gameplay you actually had to be good at it and couldn’t get bailed by a last minute K.O
I had this game when I was younger because I was a huge fan of the first two. Story mode was solid but extremely short, Gameplay wise a huge step back from FFNY & the online play was ok when it wasn’t lagging every 2 seconds, Somehow I kept matching up against the number 1 ranked player on XBox & he used to beat the shxt outta me because the lag was unbearable lol
I got a hot take for this game. I actually played and like some people here said, it had some good ideas but the execution was off. So my hot take is, Def Jam should let a Japanese company take the Icon mechanics and make it a 2D fighting game but with rappers. Just let the rappers turn in character sheets and the devs can take it from there. Instead of this gritty street tale that the games have been, this can take a more anime, fantasy approach. That would be a LOT better than what we got with Icon. I was very disappointed at what we got. Made me wonder how did you go from two pretty stellar games to this one dud and it dies off. But since more rappers are starting to jump on the anime bandwagon, a Guilty Gear/Blazblue type fighting game with rappers sounds pretty sick, to me.
I feel like WuTang would be all over an ArcSys type game 😂 but seriously man, why not?? It’s not like the original def jam games were grounded in reality anyway. Just give us a goofy over the top fighter and I guarantee it’ll succeed.

def jam icon was my childhood so I could never shit on this game lol, that shit is nostalgic for me.
I can't be mad at that. Lol
All of them icon clothes are too baggy so it's a little slower fighting but honestly I love all the defjam fighting games and the new one should have every past character and a creat your own character and that would be the best of every game ever 100
This game wasn't that bad tbh
Remastered is trash. They gotta remake stuff, No remastered Shyt is lit
Why do people love icon it is trash
Same thing I'm saying
Icon was Horrible and Hot trash juice
Def jam icon remastered
And plus EA shut down the servers on that game
Nah sorry but people ain't going to vote for a remaster on this game how garbage it it looks The only thing that was good about this game was a music
They shouldn't took out the features they had in ffny.. i enjoyed it but ffny well forever be the goat
