Man, from the first strum you KNOW it's Eddie. His tone was lush, vibrant, as distinctive as any human voice. These riffs just cut right through life's BS and hit you. For me, anyway. :)
1984 is an explosion of Diamond Dave-encrusted rock brilliance, with Eddie's guitar wizardry, Alex's thunderous drumming, and Michael's grooving basslines leaving a trail of pulsating killer hooks in its wake!
Edward Van Halen said this is one of his favorite songs that he wrote. Fellas need to check out “I’m the One” off their debut album!! Anything off their debut album and Fair Warning is a banger!!
That drop? OMG! And Dave does an amzing job on this track with his "Fills" with shrieks, shrills whistles and such. The harmony of the background vocals really stands out showcasing Michale Anthony & Eddies voices as well. This cadence on this tune is a BOP!
Wife and I got married in 1984. One of our wedding gifts were tickets to VH in Omaha NE. They were on tour promoting their 1984 LP. What an amazing show. Hot For Teacher is the next tune on the LP. 40 yrs this June and were still going strong. RIP Eddie ❤️
@@WooBino.😂 No doubt! VH is an all-time favorite of mine, and I like Crue, but hands down their music is a staple in 'those' clubs. Not that I've spent much time in them...
I've played this song for people of all music style and likes/dislikes from classical purist to folk singer songwriter to hip-hop rappers in Harlem and they ALL bop their heads and groove with it. Its purely infectious.
You guys are the best!!!! This song grabs me so Bad!!!! Love this Jam!!! Imagine cruising the strip on the beach in a convertible car with that song Loud as hell!!!
Eddie was a master of rhythm and groove all the while laying down those sick riffs that “hook” ya. Great reaction guys, keep Van Halen in your rotation.
Been a VH fan since growing up in the early 80's and listening on my walkman. But I always seem to come back to their more bluesy, dirty sounding stuff like this. And the entire Fair Warning album.
I'd never heard that record, and I think it's my favorite Van Halen. I hadn't noticed such craftsmanship, complexity, and production--great record. Thanks as always, nice to be along.
You might also check out the 2 albums that David Lee Roth did with Steve Vai as his guitarist after he left Van Halen. Many point to Van Halen's guitar runs from this period as being influenced by the playing of Allan Holdsworth. Though he was not a commercial success, because his music was instrumental, Holdsworth was admired by people like Van Halen (who got him signed to his label), Steve Vai, Frank Zappa, Joe Satriani, Santana, Malmsteen, and more. His "Devil Take The Hindmost" is a good example.
Omg yes, that one is soooo good. Steven Tyler said it's his favorite song. I've been listening to Aerosmith since the 70s & had totally missed that one, only recently discovered it!!
I feel like 1984 was the last album where Eddie sounded like "that". Heavy brown sound from start to finish. When this album came out, I didn't think they'd be able to improve on Fair Warning. This record came close but I still love FW the most
Alex was underrated as well as the entire album. The drum sounds he gets off this album are so unique… the sound of his snare and the ride cymbal bell… always loved this one. The phase on the drums is also a nice touch. I remember back in the day that Modern Drummer magazine nominated this album’s drum production as number two for the year right behind Rush of course. Let’s hear it for Anthony’s signature backing vocal’s. I think Roth’s departure right after this album was a mistake, but as always there was Eddy, such a nice touch here.
To show you what a fan and lover of music Eddie was, his outro solo was inspired by guitarist Allan Holdsworth, who he pulled strings to get him a better record deal and got all kinds of attention onto him. To hear the result, check out the title track from Allan Holdsworth's album Metal Fatigue.
I love watching you 2 discover Van Halen songs !! Keep those Van Halen reactions coming !! The outro in this song is epic after the funky beat of the main part of the song…
You guys are AWESOME! Thank you so much for paying attention to the MIGHTY Van Halen! Please Please PLEASE do a reaction to their song "Girl Gone Bad" from the same album...its a BEAST!!! You WON'T be disappointed!
My favorite song off this album. That dirty drop in the beginning is so nasty.
The Earth is 4.5 Billion years old & we managed to exist at the same time as Van Halen!
OMG! I absolutely Love this Mind-Blowing Quote - One of the BEST EVER!!!
True that greatness!
I can’t believe that this album is 40 years old.😢
😬😭😱😫
Eddie's guitar to close out the tune is like a thrilling, amazing roller-coaster ride
Van Halen with David Lee Roth was unmatched! I hope you guys get to Top Jimmy from this album. One of my favorites ever from them
Top Jimmy, OH Jimmy, he's the king. I love that song. This album takes me back to some great house parties during my high school days.
I hear he has the moves.
....and House of Pain from the same album...
Dave’s lyrics are what sets his era apart from Hagar era.
It wasn't just his lyrics, it was his attitude also. Van Halen was America's party Band with Roth.
I agree love Sammy but Dave was the lead singer of The Mighty Van Halen.
Lyrics in this song were corny though. Giant Butt, Betty Boop 😂
Yep ,Dave can’t hold a candle to Sam. Dave is a flash light, Sam is the Sun…
This outro solo always gets me.....One of my all time favorites from Eddie.......I'd love to hear the studio take without the fade-out......
Yes.....would love the solo to go on and on and on
Man, from the first strum you KNOW it's Eddie. His tone was lush, vibrant, as distinctive as any human voice. These riffs just cut right through life's BS and hit you. For me, anyway. :)
1984 was a great album.
Indeed
I agree. EXCEPT Jump. That song has always been cheesy as shit.
@@brianomoli4even cheesy Van Halen is good
One of my first records.
Beginning of new VH
U guys are awesome
Woowee! Never heard anyone react to this! 🎉
My favorite Van Halen song since I was young man 13 to 14
All hail the Mighty Van Halen!
“Top Jimmy” and this tune are two of the best from this album
Girl gone bad and House of pain are top notch as well...
Couple hidden gems on this album are Girl Gone Bad and also House of Pain!
1984 is an explosion of Diamond Dave-encrusted rock brilliance, with Eddie's guitar wizardry, Alex's thunderous drumming, and Michael's grooving basslines leaving a trail of pulsating killer hooks in its wake!
Preach 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Two gems on the end of this album some newer fans don't know about - "Girl Gone Bad" and "House of Pain".
Edward Van Halen said this is one of his favorite songs that he wrote. Fellas need to check out “I’m the One” off their debut album!! Anything off their debut album and Fair Warning is a banger!!

Such a groove. This is my favorite off this album, sonically.
Van Halen are hard rock monsters! 🤘
Raw and dirty.
In the pocket and in the groove.
When you hear it, you know it.
Played in Gentleman's Clubs all over the country for over 20 years. Van Halen must have had more striptease tunes than most bands.
Motley Crue by a mile.🤣🤣
@@WooBino.😂 No doubt! VH is an all-time favorite of mine, and I like Crue, but hands down their music is a staple in 'those' clubs. Not that I've spent much time in them...
Absolutely one of the best....!
This is my favorite song from the Roth years.
Dirty movies

Best song on the album...
one of the greatest album covers of all time
Dude that whole album is like this, or better. This isn't just one of Van Halen's greatest albums, it's one of the greatest rock albums by anyone.
Another great review guys! Kick ass song 🎧
This is my jam!
Bad ass Jam.....funky VH...used to jam this rolling up in the school parking lot..ahhhh great memories
That outro solo and coda is just sick !
"EVERYBODY WANTS SOME"(I want some too).....!!!
The real gem on this classic album is "House of Pain".
Agree. Best VH Song of all time. And that's saying something.😊
House of Pain and Girl Gone Bad are both killer tracks. What a way to close out an album.
For 83-84, production was amazing!!!
Eddie was a master of rhythm and groove all the while laying down those sick riffs that “hook” ya. Great reaction guys, keep Van Halen in your rotation.
We guitarists are still chasing that tone to this day
This song is all time!
Little Guitars is a cool deep track off Diver Down Album
That guitar solo on this is so good! That ranks right up there with one of Eddies best!
Been a VH fan since growing up in the early 80's and listening on my walkman. But I always seem to come back to their more bluesy, dirty sounding stuff like this. And the entire Fair Warning album.
Eddie and Alex have such an amazing groove at the end of this song. Love it!!!
A most underrated song by VH!!!
You guys chose a good one!!
Eddie's Tone is what grabs you. The King is dead...Long Live the King.
The Full Bug! Romeo's Delight, Hang 'em High,Fools! The list goes on
one of their best deep cuts
I'm waiting on the Beatles Revolver series of reactions. It is a stoooooopid good album. Dig the channel. Thanks fellas.
Not one stop or pause, you know it got em'!
That song rarely if ever gets played on the radio, but VH fans know. “The Full Bug” is another hidden treasure on Diver Down.
Eddie was such a great rhythm player
The harmonies for a hard rock band. Nice
Wish the outro to this song coulda went on forever!!!
Always loved this song..
Greatest rock band of all time!
Well said gentlemen. Perfect reaction!
I managed to hitch hike from UMass to Hartford civic center to see this show is late 1983.
I'd never heard that record, and I think it's my favorite Van Halen. I hadn't noticed such craftsmanship, complexity, and production--great record. Thanks as always, nice to be along.

Finally 👌🏾👍🏾
Yeah the groove was Alex and Eddie. Always was always will be.
Aerosmith - "Seasons Of Wither"

Always forget about this song, but it's so good!
great song off of a great album
Glad to see someone finally reacting to this song! Many great songs on this album, unfortunately rarely played on the radio.

The Band 🎯
Rabbit Hole ---Van Halen lps 1 thru 6. All with Roth, great stuff. 1984 is the 6th btw saw them for this tour, amazing.
Musica colossal👏👏🦖🇧🇷
Eddie was asked what was his favorite song to play..this was it..great groove and complexedy..
I went to this concert tour. Saw them at the Capital Center in Largo, MD. I was in 11th grade. What a time to be alive!
What a great song. Great groove and Eddie’s guitar playing was masterful
1984 was their best album IMO. Every song is a banger. Last album before Dave left the band
That solo at the end is some John Coltrane-type sh*t.
Great comment
Great reaction. You guys can pick any song off their first 6 albums. They’re all great.
I love watching you 2 discover Van Halen songs !! Keep those Van Halen reactions coming !! The outro in this song is epic after the funky beat of the main part of the song…
Great table dance song.
Hell yea. Wore this tape out in my 84 gran Prix. Love the heavy bottom to this VH classic. !!! 🔥
Riff is killer. My fave off this album.
That outro solo is easily one of Eddie's best.
1984 was a great show 🤘🤘
Quality, simple as.
The outo guitar is legend
this was a tune I used to listen to over and over - great guitar solo over a chunky groove
Such a good "" B " song !! 😎🎸
