you should be using short sticks on your gimbals if you drive with your thumbs, the longer sticks are for pinching

Well you went the right direction, glad you didn't pick Spektrum

Totally agree with the bad quality of neckstraps.
I've been looking at instrument straps because they seem to have a wider variety with higher quality and comfort. Something like a saxophone strap should do the trick.

Still using my FrSky Horus X12S. I'm quite a fan of the telemetry units available for the FrSky units. It's a shame they've stopped the Gas suite. I have only the one for a model with a gas engine. And it's fantastic. Fuel tank level, ignition cut off, rpm limiter, ect. Handy unit. Only thing stopping me from changing over to the X20 is the ethos. If it was able to be booted with Edge, or Open TX I'd be taking the plunge

I understand your reasons but until you play with ethos, I would not pass judgement. You CAN get ethos on your X12S but ethos is better-used in a touchscreen environment. You can use it, just not efficiently. Making the move to ethos really was a matter of transferring my old models to the new radio. By the time I had transferred a few models I got a LOT of the basics out of the way and more nuanced stuff was more like exploring, rather than exercising frustration.

@@JoshuaOrchard all fair comments. I was thinking of updating my X12S to a touch screen, and adding Access. As I'm still using accst protocol at the moment, which is restricting my use of the newer receivers that are being released. I'm slowly being pushed to get the X20S through times changing. My only real grip with ethos us that I can't just copy and paste my radio. If it was bootloaded with EdgeTx I could pretty much just swap SD card from one to the other.

I literally bought the same radio but in blue and my primary decision point was the dual frequency redundancy.

I don’t know much about radios but that new one bought looks pretty cool! Do they make it in blue? Lots of good points made with experience to back it up!

I wouldn't use anything but Jeti. Extremely reliable, powerful and a great range of telemetry sensors. Harry Curzon's UA-cam channel is an awesome source of learning. Every other brand just seems like junk to me, especially Spektrum!

    • @JoshuaOrchard

I considered Jeti but reliability has not been an issue with the FrSky system. I've flown in a massive world-record flight with 300+ pilots and the ones who stayed up were the FrSky folks, not the Spektrum ones. I've never had an issue with range, signal, or anything else like that while using FrSky equipment for the last 10 or so years. Their sensors are accurate and robust and I've even used their infrastructure to use open-source materials to create my own sensors. My experience with this brand has me hooked as a loyal user.

    Hi Joshua,
I still have the Taranis X9D and it's neck strap is decent. Have you looked into camera neck straps? They are generally of better quality, although you pay for it.

I have not looked at Camera neck straps. Interesting idea. I'll have a look and thanks!

I call bs on that …receiver was probably not installed correctly or other issue I’ve used spektrum for over 10 years never lost a plane due to anything with the radio. All radios drop frame or have issue with 2.4 interference but not to the point of crashing an airplane

Unfortunately you cannot make that call because I've not given you ANY of the specifics for that situation. I'm not being confrontational, just stating fact here. I'm not one to stir the pot on topics of contention in our hobby, like this one, so I urge you to hold your judgement and comments until you know the actual situation.
To be more clear, the situation I mentioned was an issue that could happen to literally ANY radio system and had nothing to do with the signal it was receiving but could be solved with multiple receivers with independent power sources. The fellow I know very well and he's got easily over 40 years in the hobby with LMA-certified models under his belt. This situation showed me how being redundant alone is not a catch-all.
I hope you can understand why I'm not going into more specifics. Like I said, I'm not trying to generate contention, but rather suggest that you just don't have all the data to make such a wide-sweeping statement.

They make great hardware unfortunately the software and firmware are not open source.

    • @JoshuaOrchard
      @JoshuaOrchard  4 місяці тому +1

There is something to be said about open-source, no question. Open and edge TX platforms would not be where they are if it were not for open-source. However, a closed model comes with infrastructure to support. If FrSky did not have this in-place then there would be the WORST product support. With all of the updates coming as of late that included non-trivial features, I'm convinced of their dedication to their product line. FrSky also gets control of their own product, which has other business advantages. Some of this control relates back to product support. An open system loses control of that line of support and limits ability to support the product in the long and sort term.
I can see the advantages and disadvantages of both sides of this platform model and IMHO it's a bit of a wash for the customer. It really comes down to personal preference.
