Love the intro so perfect!! The new flank bite pliers are awesome I really like the slip joint pliers not that it takes much to make me like pliers I have 250 pairs lol I Definitely like the larger snap-on and the 3 position is fantastic great video doc you you really get it and have a great mindset!!
I love slipjoint pliers, but too many people these days think a pair of Knipex cobra type pliers have made them obsolete. I do not because angled jaws are not the same, and I think slipjoint pliers are still as viable of a tool as ever.
This is true until it is not. I was one of the ones you speak of with the full set of cobra pliers. Recently borrowed my coworkers slip joint snap on and I fell in love. The snap ons teeth are no joke. I love my knipex but I feel myself reaching for the snap on first now. 94$ for one is kind of brutal but you know mechanic life.
Man, I really wonder why some of these plier advancements have not returned back into blacksmithing tong tech. I'm so gonna experiment with this once my forge is finished.
Don’t forget you can use them as a nut cracker! I’m not a huge fan of slip joint pliers. They really are the Jack of few trades, master of none, type of pliers. They have their uses, but overall, not my go to pliers.
I own Matco and Mac Tools pliers they fatigue the fingers and hands. When I switched over to Snap-on the bite on them is superior and my hands don't hurt anymore. Top notch products
I have the 47acf which are awesome. To make it even better, I wish snap on made the cutting section like the discontinued 137acf where the cutting edges are on the side and line up like diagonal cutters. At least then you can use it to cut stuff fairly decently and also to pull nails or pins from the side. The current design you can't cut anything. And also I would make a larger forged rivet to stop binding when using the pliers to straighten things from side to side.
I stopped carrying slip joints like ten years ago and after a few years I started carrying a pair again. Until I got the snap on ln 47acf a few months ago. I am trying to trim down after back injuries and keep the 46 now that I finally just ordered it on line when no snap on trucks ever got them for months. Now I have both pairs in my box at home and carry the 46. Between those and the knipex combination pliers w 10g strippers and duck bills I have retired the slip joints once again to the garage box at home. I do grab the little old school snapons a lot at home
Thanks for this video. I really enjoyed it. I’ve been thinking about slip joints for 20 years and it just dawned on me to get a decent pair, haha. I finally found uses for my needs. If I could have one set of stand alone pliers in general I’d take a decent pair of channel locks or water pump pliers. My Irwin pair has the button push and the notch out for bolts, Heaven forbid. They’ve been beat up and old faithful
I have the same Irwins but I decided to try the knipex cobra’s and they are way better I thought the cobras were all hype till I got them I never plan on going back
I totally agree, I'd much rather have a good knife and my snap on pliers than something else. I keep mine in my i.n.c.h. bag. I'd much rather have them, my klein 11 in one screwdriver and a good pocket knife than any of the leatherman tools. I had a leather man wave that was stolen. I never considered replacing it, it was way too heavy in the pocket and the tools all suck compared to the real deal tools. Your better off carrying a little extra weight and having proper tools than relying on a leatherman type tool imo.
1 tool, I'm taking Knipex Cobra everytime. Runner up would be channellocks. Either way I would take a T&G style plier for there versatility. I can't find a use for these type of slip joint pliers. I end up just throwing them in an old tool bag and never using them.
I knew I liked you--it takes a very big man (not to mention a doctor) to admit he has spoken with "forked tong". Continue to love your videos--keep em coming. BTW, if you don't get Snap-0n to sponsor you soon, there won't be any Snap-On tools left that you don't already own! Red out.
@@thefogisgone3662 Just depends on what you are doing. For jobs calling for a multijoint plier, Cobras are great. Really hard to remove the cladding from fiber optic strands with a pair of Cobras.
@@b-2466 hell yeah. I will say I got the new ones, the Cobra XS and I'm not as crazy about those. But the size up is a classic and awesome. Idk why they didn't put the red grips on the XS. Best use i've found for those so far is like.. digging buried nails out of tires when ya get one.. and solenoid clips in valve bodies in certain situations. But they're just so small theres little to no leverage at all for much else.
I thought this video was more of a buttering the expensive Snap-On slip joint pliers than an apology :-). I admit I watched the whole 5min video but other than you randomly picking up each set of pliers, opening and clicking them closed, not sure what message you were trying to pass on to the viewers. If people have been around slip joint pliers, they would know that almost all of them are equally good in performance, other than comfort, size, tooth styles etc. I do not want you or someone to judge my affordability but I have a set of Husky slip joint 8" pliers that developed a tear in the handle wrap after 14 years of general use. Wanted to see how HD's warranty worked. I told the lady I wanted to warranty it and I was literally out of the store within 3 mins with a brand new set of pliers - Again, not judging the quality of a $50 Snap-on vs a $8.97 Husky slip-joint pliers, I think this video would be even better with various priced slip joint pliers on the table. I agree slip-joint pliers deserve much more credit regardless of the brand but seeing those red snap-ons all over was a bit intriguing. Not sure if 3-step slip is more of a novelty option since the center slip is a 30% overlap between the first and the last slip.
I get that a lot. I'm going to have to do a video with all my old used and vintage tools that I've been upgrading. I got my first Snap On screwdriver in the mid 1980s. Now that I'm close to retirement and have the disposable income to get exactly the tools I want, posting pics has almost been more trouble than it's worth.

Those 46ACFs stay in my pocket all day every day. It’s amazing how many problems I’ve been able to solve with those.
Doc would u change it to twin grips now that the future is here?
Really appreciate your videos! Building my tool box and love the way you present things!
i decided on the 47 and received it last week. immensely happy with it.

Every farmer I know carries a pair of pliers. Usually CEE TEE brand is most common. Works well with baling wire. Fix almost anything..
Love a good slip joint, i got the 46 and 47 acfs already and got my snap on man to order me a pair of the big 49acfs last week

Best pliers are knipex cobras.
I don't know if I would call them "Best" but they are awesome.

Knipex is a quarter of the price
Good video! I came out of the pipe trades, so pump pliers are my go to.
Very informative!! Definitely love watching your videos
Why did snap on stop making the slip joints with the hose clamp cut outs on the teeth?
Awesome mate good heaven presentation
Nice 👍

I didnt thumbs down, because your video quality is nice. But its hard to take a guys advice when all his tools look unused.

This was my first time watching your channel. So, first impressions. Perhaps my criticism was unfounded. Thanks for the informative video.
Doc knows what he's talking about mate
Knipex cobra's do a better job....
Knipex Cobra pliers . End of story
