The fact that this movie has no gore, no swearing, no inappropriate scenes, but still got rated R says a lot about the fear factor of it
It didn’t scare me watching it tbh, I never understood this movies hype around how scary it is, I actually laughed so hard with some of the spirits came out

American ratings are usually higher than they are elsewhere. I've seen a lot of movies that are rated R in the USA but only 14+ in Canada. I don't really know what the discrepancy is there.

Fun fact, Warren's museum guide told in some video that this case wasn't really happy ending. They went to the family, did what they could but they didn't get rid of the bad things happening in the house, he said that this case was so "scary" that they decided to not use every material in the movie, also Andrea, the oldest daughter, wrote a 3 book series called "House of Darkness, House of Light" that explains how the Warren's actually made things worse by being there. The reality is much more horrible than the movie. The Perron's lived in hell in that house from 1970-1980.

The real annie doll is sitting in a case somewhere in a museum located in Connecticut which is where I live! A part of me wants to see it but the other part of me is like "girl don't be dumb."
I live in CT as well and as a huge horror fan the thought of being so close and seeing it is cool, but hell no I would never!!

@@TaylorMLPFIDAU the warrens were practically scam artists… they would go to these families and use their stories for their own benefits when they write their books. They didn’t help the perron family like they are shown in this movie. They were actually kicked out by the husband, Ed got punched by him. And the other cases, the warrens promised them help like money if they use their story for their book(one example is the case of the “devil inside me” movie). They barely gave that family a portion of the money they got from that case.
Not to mention what a predator Ed was. They even had an underaged girl living w/ them …Ed was cheating on Lorraine with that girl.. overall not good people.

Especially the case of the guy who claimed to be possessed. They barely gave as much money they got from their book to the little boy they supposedly helped be exorcized. Along with the Perron family, they were actually kicked out their house and didn’t “help” them at all like in the movie.
Fun fact: the entity that flung their daughter around the room wasn’t an energy that was already in the house. it was conjured by Ed Warren when they did the seance

"it usually seems they always go after the dad first" well that's because whenever you're trying to harm someone you would usually go after the protector first, but the dad was pretty much gone on work for the first half of the movie so it didn't need to.
They usually go after the weakest minded person with the most damage or the most innocent people. I have studied this for a few years

Girl, I’m with you on demon possession movies. I love horror but always feel so eerie with certain movies. I don’t recall what movie it was but I literally had a dream that I felt myself getting possessed and woke up right then rebuking that shit. Hasn’t happened since but nope nope nope, I condemn it 😂

One of the kids of the family that were haunted wrote a book on what happened at that house and the movie makers had to cut out and censor a lot from it.
Just so that it would get through regulations.
Read the book if you're interested in what actually happened according to one of the very victims itself.

I've watched it with my cousins when I was in 4th grade and it gave me nightmares for months I swear! I'm 30 years old now and I still can't watch it! I'm traumatized for life.

I love this movie Vera Farmiga as Lorraine don’t get me wrong they all did amazing but that SCREAM. 👏🏾👏🏾 I think the main reason this movie is so scary is because the acting is so top tier I honestly felt the fear of the kids, the confusion of the parents, and that climax of Lorraine trying to bring the mom back.
This and Conjuring 2 are often known as the scariest movies but just fyi , “Annabelle: Creation” (the 2nd Annabelle movie) is the only horror movie to get a perfect 100% score on rottten tomatoes which is amazing . The movie is of course a James Wann who came in and killed it so amazingly! If u haven’t seen that one , you’ll love it.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. The ending is so good. And then the second is just as good if not a little bit better.

I am so excited for you to start the Conjuring Universe. Annabelle Creation, The Nun 2, and The Conjuring 1 & 2 are some of my favorite horror movies. The Conjuring 1 messed me up so bad the first time I watched it. I was like I'm a grown man, but I'm not sleeping tonight.
The Conjuring is one of my favorite horror movies of all time
P.S: I'll never forget seeing it in theaters on opening night, me, my then-girlfriend and the entire audience jumped and screamed at a few scenes throughout the movie that the ushers had to come in and tell us to keep it down

I’ve watched this movie so many times in my room (it’s given off a bad vibe to everyone that’s ever stayed over) and I remember one time I was sick and my family left me home alone. I was sleeping and felt someone grab my ankle and pull me out of bed, I woke up half way off the end of my bed. I started SCREAMING 😭😭😭 I checked the entire house just to realize I was home alone😭. Yeah, don't move to Rhode Island. It's the most haunted state in America. It's the smallest state but most of it is haunted. The real conjuring house is still there on Hill Top Rd in Harrisville, R.I. Also, Bathsheba Thayer was a real person.

This movie actually made me lose a lot of respect for the church because the church is supposed to help all people even those who aren’t religious. As for the hauntings….Lorraine got Bathesba’s story wrong. Bathesha was never a witch, nor was she related to one and she was actually friends with Elizabeth Arnold (one of original owners of the house) now the evil that apparently haunts their house, is a woman with a broken neck. Carolyn Perron even talked about while living there that the woman with a broken neck would violently shake her bed. Now as for the exorcism, that never happened…..in reality, it was a seance but a seance gone wrong because whatever came through, levitated Carolyn in the air and threw her across the room nearly killing her resulting in Roger punching Ed in the face and kicking the Warrens out. Ed and Lorraine tried to help but only made things worse.
Yeah, the church reaction in a lot of these cases pisses me off. Its all "god loves everyone equally and without bias, love thy neighbour and the church is always here for you."
Then when you actually need their help you get "You've got a demon? Your kids are in danger? Ah, but you're not members of our church and the kids aren't baptised. You're not in our little club so sorry, can't help, bye bye."
So much for claiming to be there for everyone and so much for claiming to be a defence against Satan. Acting like that is just willing handing him a victory.
With regards to the movie compared to the alleged real events, one of the Perron daughters, I think it was Angela, has said that the film is 5% fact, 95% fiction and the reality was too scary to put on film. Lorraine Warren claimed that she had barely allowed the filmmakers to change anything for artistic/entertainment purposes.
These statements contradict each other so they can't both be true. Given the other wrong information in the movie that you have pointed out, that makes Angela the one telling the truth.
