Noiseless for me. While I love the single-coil’s tone, it can get a little harsh sometimes. I find the noiseless pickups a nice way to round off the “rough edges”.
I love noiseless pickups. I compensate by using 500K pots with noiseless since they technically are humbuckers. My fender vintage noiseless set came with 1 meg pots and gets close, but still a difference with an isolated guitar sound. Thanks for the demo. 🎸
those 59's are top. I use those on my main guitars, crystal clean and the right amount of compression when you dig in, fine tuned on the height adjustment. great job.

Well I got the same set on 2 different old guitars -a 62 and a 54 reissues Japan - and there's no formula set in stone. But a good start is fender vintage spec pickup height settings, or Lindy fralin's suggestion for doing this. You can also raise the neck pickup pressing and playing both the 1st and 6th string until the wabbling sound comes out and then back both sides of the pickup until the wabbling goes away, and that's defines the highest you should go. from there you can play and listen if its to bright (highest)or too mellow (lowering the pickups)..then go to the bridge pick-up and try to match outputs, or a bit more(to taste) and only then goe to the middle pickup and also match volumes. All this depends a bit on your playing style and how you work the amp etc..and for me, I tend to keep them on the "low" side cause I like pushing the amp, and add boosters or low gain drivers to kick the amp. Low output pickups tend to keep note definition and bite even with a bit more gain..If you have a good amp with lots of headroom, volume is never a prob. The 59 set is great and they sound different on different guitars (I proved that myself) and in my case I wanted them to sound different but close enough to use either guitar as backup of the other (cause I generally don't change guitars in our gigs) sometimes I choose the guitar I'll use that night on the soundcheck- they sound a bit different on different venues..so it's fine.
I have a set of the fender pure vintage pickups in my strat right now. I’ve found that I can play soo many different types of music with them. Most pickups I see are for hi gain without the clarity the 59s do. Ty for vid
Yeah i think "alive" is the perfect way to describe it. I was just playing it about 10 minutes ago and my wife came in and said it sounds like a totally different guitar and she's a singer, not a guitar player haha
Noiseless are becoming an actual option .. these days. And this video attests to that. I truly despise 60c hum .. but, in pos 4 there’s still a very clear difference, between these pickUps. On Pos 5(neck) , which is what i mainly look for, in a Strat,i liked them both. It might sound fuller and warmer on the noiseless side…. but ..as soon as you put the guitar into a mix.. i am pretty sure the true single coils will still have the advantage. I am looking to assemble an HSS Strat… and it looks like i am gonna go with the 59s for Mid & Neck. Really appreciated this. Cheers from Portugal
No…..been playing for over 30 years…..love the Noiseless pups. They are just slightly fatter sounding single coils…to my ears. For me and what I use they solved several problems and I was able to get rid of a noise suppression pedal.
I had lace golds which are technically single coils still I loved them and they are near silent. I’m using vintera 60’s set which I’m happy with and for the price are superb but I do miss the quietness of the lace sensors. Check em out 👍🏻

The bunny is somewhat recovering but we just had to bring the dog to the ER two nights ago, the pup ate some gnarly stuff and wasn't able to hold in his poop and was going all over the house. it was... messy
Pickups are always a compromise, and this fact upsets me. 😅 I think I'd rather use a noise gate than have noiseless pickups, but that has problems of its own.
@@nick334t9 You can't let a note ring out fully because the noise gate will kick in when the volume gets below where you set the threshold, unless you set the threshold lower and then the more the note rings out and gets quieter, the more buzz will be heard. That's the main reason for me anyway. I still think it's probably preferable to having noiseless pickups though, but it's all just down to preference.
In my experience the lower output noiseless single coils, regardless of brand, always sound more authentic than the higher output. I don't mind the bridge being hotter so long as it is not too hot because I like a fatter bridge tone, but I also like it to combine well for a good 2 position tone.
I have so much to say…but it’s just what you like. I would ask, why do they make the noiseless, what is their job? Who would they serve, and why would anyone not adjust their settings when changing guitars to one with the noiseless? I love my Lollars, Fralins, and Radioshop pups, but my new 75th Nashville Tele with 3 vintage noiseless tele pickups is a stunning sounding guitar too. I haven’t stopped playing it for 2 weeks. Better? No, just another option, and turning a few knobs a single tick on the dial brings the new tele to life! Peace!
I had a segment explaining in this why I initially replaced the stock pickups that were in this JV in the late 90's for the noiseless to begin with, but I felt it wasn't necessary so I'll tell you now. When I was gigging back then, the majority of the bars/clubs I was playing had lighting issues. One in particular whenever I brought this strat to play there ( it was my only guitar at the time ) it was the worst accelerated 60 cycle hum I've ever heard. So me being a stupid kid ripped out a set of Red Bobbin Fullerton pickups and threw these in to deal with it. For that purpose, they actually did exactly what I wanted and greatly reduced the sound. I think it all does depend on the situation and really what kind of music you want to play. I don't think I'd personally favor these 59's as much if I was playing in a Yngwie style or something really aggressive, the noiseless ones are obviously much better for higher gain stuff because who the hell wants to hear all that noise in a scenario like that?
Shouldnt that be obvious? Anyone playing near electronics, especially when recording. Or live in venues with lots of interference. The problem though, is that noiseless pickups dont do anything, they're so noisy they're still unusable without noisegates in these situations.
The difference is night and day to my ears. I have two sets of noiseless. Vintage and Hot Noiseless. I also have a squier with stock pickups. And my squier sounds better than noiseless. Even in position 4 and 2 which has no hum in my Squief
In the room it's even more night and day. The noiseless ones definitely serve their purpose in a very poorly set up venue electrical wise, but for pure tone it's not close.
Noisless pickups are great if you are playing live with a lot of gain that causes the annoying 50/60Hz hum problems. For most players at sensible volumes i don't think they are worth paying extra for at the expense of a slight difference in tone. I am a fan of active pickups which avoid the hum problem, but i accept that they are not for every player if you want a classic pickup tone. Each to their own.

Curious how you feel about the Jeff Beck artist series strat. I got to play one the other day briefly and it sounded amazing. I'm a bit reluctant to pull the trigger on a guitar with noiseless pickups. Any thoughts?
I only own american original guitars now but having owned a strat ultra I must say I really liked how they sounded. I hated the neck on the ultra; not the pick ups. Having one of each seems ideal in my opinion. At home the PV59/PV65"s might have that little extra something, but noiseless is way more hassle free. Also: in a mix, that little extra something tends to dissappear to my ear anyway
Although 59’s might be the tone purists choice. A Strat really benefits from noiseless, takes the useless and unwanted trebles that people don’t want when playing heavier music. Thanks for the comparison dude. It’s helping me decide the next round of pick ups to get for my Strat in the future 😊👍
Yep especially in the late 90s early 2000s on NY, the bars and venues I played at had absolutely atrocious electrical installs and I didnt care about anything but killing the noise.
There is no comparison, imo unless you really NEEDED noiseless pickups for higher gain applications. But then, in higher gain applications you probably want more of a humbuckerish tone anyway. 59s are my favorite pickups and used with a TS9 and even fuzz are quiet enough. Nothing beats the openness and dynamic range of a single coil.
Yep, i only had the noiseless in that guitar because a lot of the gigs I was playing with that guitar at the time had garbage lighting and electronics, thus resulting is atrocious noise and at the time I was a broke teenager so it wasnt reasonable to buy another guitar so I just swapped the pups. The 59s are head and shoulders better if agree.
The noiseless aren't bad by any means but there's no denying that there's just something special about non-noiseless traditional pickups, something that noiseless can't quite get
The noiseless were more brassy. The single coils were more silvery. Perhaps there's a particular string set that could push the high end clarity of the noiseless?
Both are great, but the 59s sounded better to my humble ears. Like you mentioned there was a noticeable difference in the clarity and high end. Certainly wouldn't mind the noiseless when playing out though.
Live youd never know the difference, I gigged that guitar forever and nobody asked me about the pickups just that the guitar sounded great. Isolated the difference is obvious, but as you said, live performance its nice not working about all the noise of regular single coils.

When it comes to noiselesss strat pickups it should be either dimarzio areas or pretty much any kinman set.....noiseless fender sets are not serious competition.....
I've tried both Kinman, Lloar, Dimarzios, did not care for any of the noiseless variants. I dislike all noiseless pickups compared to proper single coils, they genuinely just don't get you there. I'd say the same thing with P90s that are hum canceling, they lose the character that defines the pickup design.

I dont want that extra stuff, which is why i have a few guitars. Id rather have each guitar nail the exact few sounds I need from them and go to other guitars that can do other things instead. I get why people use them and Ive used noiseless live for over a decade, they just arent my thing

Anyway though...to each their own.

I don't hear such an appreciable difference to justify coping with all the hum. Noiseless all the way, they even sound a little fatter.
Some truths don't change just because you don't hear. For those who hear, there is a big difference.

The problem isnt the tone, the problem is they are noisy as hell, idk who came up with the idea to call them noiseless

I think you're right, and the noiseless do have their place but it really kind of takes away the baseline tone of the instruments putting them in.

i have noiseless on 2 guitars. ill take a loss shimmer all day long to get rid of 60 cycle. especially for playing live.

Every time I hear 59s compared to anything the 59s win for me.
I think they're the best production pickup Fender currently offer for sale on their own

Yeah, the regular single coil 59s were harsh. Lotta noise in the bridge pick up when it was distorted all that extra garble. Finish him.

Now turn on some metal distortion and aim the pickups at the amp. Don't even play. I think you know which will sound better.
