We used a slight variation of this up in Erie for steelhead with good luck under indicators. Used Palmer Che bike instead of ice wing. It looks so good in the water and steelies love it. Tying up a few variations currently
Great thanks mike for sharing, this fly will be great on a lake that doesn't have much fly life yet, as the trout seem to go for smaller fish at the moment.

Gordon, It was a name given to me way back in early teenage years. Back then I was not overweight lol. I used to play football and was the quarterback of the youth team and we had many plays designed for me to run the ball. Luckily back then I was faster than most of the kids who played and players had trouble catching me so Bens dad coined the name “iron mike.” Believe me today if we were getting chased by a bear you would want me to be there. I would be the one getting gobbled up! Thanks for watching.
Awesome fly Mike. It’s already becoming famous! I have one question about your materials. Any reason you didn’t use black thread rather than white or something lighter? I’m guessing it’s because it’s what you had handy in 6/0 thread, but thought I would ask.
No particular reason. I’ve actually tied with red too to represent gills. I really think the thread colors do not matter on this particular fly. Thanks so much for watching.

I've had good success with NY and CT rainbows on White and Pink and Chartreuse Iron Mike streamers! Love it !

I think that would work with a red thread also. It would imitate gills

I'm going to try tying this with black Marabou what color ice wing fiber should I tie it with?
Im, not able to spin a streamer like a minnow yet. Practice. I love fishing behind bait fisherman artificial.
