Whistles in a survival situation are definately not stupid.
Agreed, i attached my whistle to the firesteel, and use a hairband to keep whistle from wagging around. Pull whistle through hairband, loop allows you to pull up and remove firesteel then you place a finger through loop and if firesteel slips, you still got hold of whistle.
Works for me.
@@antilaw9911 and if you aint got the whistle, no body. Thats why you keep it on the knife, you dont know if theres any body there. Surely better to have it than to not.
Yeah I agree I just keep it in some other pocket instead of on my knife
Don't mind the trolls and haters. They're just a bunch of keyboard Rambos who have likely never even used a knife before. I've owned plenty of Bear Grylls gear (mostly before I had the channel) and have never had an issue with them. In fact, I have a BG knife I'm testing for review as we speak. Unless it somehow fails the final test there will be many butthurt BG haters because so far it is kicking arse
I know you're probably a young adult now...but you did a good job back then on this!
Flint steel? Hammer? Respect Velcro over a button snap? You really seem to know your knives!
Agreed

Look at these idiotic fools in the comments, complaining about an ex-army survival experts signature knife.
Guys: Its not a 100$ knife okay? so its not perfect at all, maybe nog even great.
Bear may be an idiot for his decisions in the wild, but he does things his way (doesn't mean its a smart way)
but the Army and the experience he has in survival is not a flaw!
Great knive but ur paying for the name I believe in the brand and quality of the material love bear I would not pay that much sorry bear love you
The Ultimate Pro Survival is excellent and non-breakable. The other one...not so much. It’s worth the upgrade even if you own the other one. I do.
You're supposed to move the fire steel not the knife just for an FYI
i have both and i love both. i kinda like the old sheath better but the new one is amazing too. if your like me you have several knives then you have to have both but whatever you do dont buy from walmart they are overpriced there. look on amazon to get it at 34 bucks vs walmart for 60. or if you get the ultimate pro its around 60 on amazon vs 120.00 on gerbers website. hope this helps and happy hunting
packlesswolf1 do they both fit in the other sheet? Like the "ultimate" knife (on the left side) fits into the sheet of the "pro" knife (right side)
I got both knifes ..but I got 1 new one & trying to find old one..i like it better 2 reason. Knife sharper. & fire stick up not hanging down. I don't like the stone sharpener....i hope they see & make some of those sheath..i think there getting popular again
I have the pro knife its really good nice loooking sharp gripy survival package its a amazing priice get this knife is really good for all the jobs you need to do
It's a good knife
Good review. I have respect for both Gerber and BearGrys has achieved a great deal of respect during his career. However, when celebrity “survival experts” team up with a company I find this a wee problem.
I am from the UK and have been involved in bushcraft for over 30 years. During this time I have purchased many outdoor knives.
I’m not saying these knives are no good, Gerber has a good reputation.
My only issue is once a celebrity works with a multinational supplier things change.
Both of these knives are way over priced for their intended use.
Steel quality is inferior and plastic handle/sheath are cheaply made.
I appreciate that some cannot afford custom or top end cutting tools but there are so many quality blades available at a much affordable price.
Maybe just my opinion?
Good review none the less 👍
i have this knife(the ultimate, not pro) and its definately not "the best knife". its a great knife, but not the "best" knife
Which knife you think is the best?
' Best Knife ' is always, only going to be an opinion. This knife does well, especially at it's price point.
Good Review. BIG difference--Ultimate Pro is full tang. plus much better steel, Ultimate is not full tang and lesser grade steel.
If I were to design this knife, I would have done away with the Velcro. If you get dust or sand all over it, it’ll wear out really quickly. I’d also make it full tang and out of a bit of a harder steel with less serrations all over the blade. We’re not making a saw here, but I’d like to keep the sharpener where it was with the ferro rod pointed downwards so it doesn’t fall out, and keep the old friction lock without that piece of metal in the way that systematically flattens the edge when you remove it from the sheath.
Serrations and finger notch on the blade is a bad idea.
The differences between these knives are minimal. But the price difference is literally huge!
Here in Finland the Ultimate costs 90€ and the Ultimate Pro 180€. 90€ just because it’s full tang????
Well don’t quote me on this but I believe is is made out of better steel. Also the sheath is much better made but yes maybe not enough to justify the huge price difference. A lot of the price has to do with the bear grylls aspect of it but make no mistake gerber makes reliable tools that I can trust in any situation. Thanks for the comment!
Mantap sekali pisounya bgs dan sangat kuat.
Please do your research on terminology and actual facts before posting to the public.
The older knife is fine. No need for both. ..
So they made a better knife but screwed up the sheath IMHO .....the first sheath was better. This knife would be so much better with out the loud orange BG splashed everywhere I'm not a hater of Bear at all but he should have more say-so and should have said let's go all USA made. Yes these knives will work for the common camper but man they could have really hit a home run with a limited quality blade like the LMF2, Prodigy and their new Strongarm.
I like the old sheath better as well, but the fire steel design and placement on the new sheath is much better. The first hiking trip I took with the old style sheath got my fire steel lost because of its upside down placement.
Very good. Thank you very much
If you strike with the blade it eats away at the flint
fire steel/magnesium rod lol
Does the new one fit in the old one's sheath? That would be the ultimate thing for me for these two.
I closed this video and moved on as soon as he showed the fero rod and said it's got "flint and steel"
Just to let u know, you cant replace the grips. But nice vid!
I have the ultimate pro. Really nice knife, much better than the older versions. Really good knife for many purposes
I like the old sheath better knife sharpener & fire stick up not down....wished I could find another sheath

А ЧЁМ И ПРО ЧТО ГОВОРИТ
Hello I wanted to know if you think this knife (Bear Grylls ultimate pro) is really excellent as they say? It has un'otttima quality? in short, in a survival mission would you take this or another knife? Let me know what you think, Michele a greeting.
I've read at least twice that the ultimate survivor pro knife is the best BG tool that Gerber makes. I have both the knife and the hatchet. the hatchet chipped pretty bad when my cousin slammed it into the dirt. I imagine that's quite expected... I was just frekkin pi**ed.
Idk y im watching this vid...i mean the entire bear grylls knife series is overrated( nothing against bear just the knives) gerber can do so much better like the strongarm or the lmf...there is so much hype for these bg knives but im not seeing it.
"It really sharpens it good."
I'll stick with my Schrade Schf 37, great knife for under $50
When a reviewer comparing survival knifes says he would obviously choose one over the other for the color...
👍
I wasn't aware they updated the Ultimate Survival fixed blade, ordering the newer one right now! I know everyone wants too hate these knives, yes they look cheesy AF and are not made of top notch steel. This is a lower priced survival knife and you really do get your money's worth, I've had my knife for a few years now and it has definitely been put to the test. I have no complaints other than the cheesy look, but hey that's just marketing.
I own the upper brands (ESEE kabar etc) but I decided to pick up an ultimate pro. Decent knife, I love the grip and feel, and I've used it a lot but it's made in China and of course the orange. Well at least the black looks better than grey, but I would want to see a full black version.
"you got your bear grylls ultimate survival... priorities of survival..... guide here...." lol
is the old one full tang?
Just 3/4, the pommel(not hammer) was real easy to snap off, an awful amount of these 1st gen versions broke. I got an ultimate pro,and have yet to find fault with it.
Pries
good job (really usefull planing to get it for my twelfth birthday )
Nice video!
fashion knife, first watch BG what he caring ( definitely non of those, he caring what ?, who pay more ! , and all craps about BG survival knife is marketing campaign) if u whant true survival knife ( in my opinion ) get yourself falkniven a1 , or BK2 , or fox knife etc , thanks for your time to make this video, but m8 , go into wildness for longer period of time ( 2 or 3 weeks ) and u get a point.
My dog speaks better English
fuck u and fuck ure English and ure dog 2
there is almost 7 billion humans on earth, with thousands of different languages ..... can you speak a language other than English? no, because you're definitely a part of the stupide people on this fucking humans earth ....
next time try to answer the commentary of youtuber's basing on their general ideas, instead of pissing us with your English and your dog
@@Maximius38 stfu i think you need to learn english so shut up moron
“Flint and steel” refers to a method of firestarting that requires a piece of hardened steel and flint, you strike the steel against the flint and use it to ignite a variety of starters, such as char cloth. It will smolder for a while and then you can use it to build the fire up, using dry dead grass, crunched up leaves, the fuzzy stuff on dandelions, cottonseed from cotton trees, etc. you use the finer stuff to start it while the grass catches flame from that. Or you could just use grass with nothing else. What you have with the knife is called ferrocerium, it oxidizes and chemically reacts with the air, known as combustion, it reaches up to 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit. I’ve burnt my hands while using them before too, you should also wear some eye protection if you ever use magnesium. It gets to a bright glowing blue if you blow on it after igniting it. Honestly this knife is a very decent knife. The old one dulls rather quickly and serrations make bushcraft harder. There’s also metal lining the sheath, meaning you could be dulling your knives on it each time it is used. It’s cheesy but usable, it’s a great utility/survival/hunting/bushcraft knife. Gerber had to get it right after having people complain about it, so they upgraded from gen 1 and got gen 2 and 3, the ultimate pro and ultimate. They should have came up with a cooler name though, “ultimate survival knife” is kind of bland and long.
nice video my friend!
Ultimate pro knife!!!
Isn’t the hammer a separate piece of metal from the blade?
No, its pinned to the tang and welded also. Solid.
Make a video on the tent you recomend
Nice
Thank you
A real gerber fan has the lhr
I prefer the strongarm.
You know you have to lift the fore thing up instead of pulling it with force right there's a tab to lock it that's why ...
It be nice since its getting popular maybe they make a replica of the Gerber bear grylls..ultimate
Higher quality steel than the other? How did you know that? Does it shoot bullets??
Old one is 7cr17mov. New one is 9cr18mov
Moi je pense que le ultimate pro en bien mieu fini. Mais la différence de prix et quand même grande...
Obrigado pela apresentação !
